Who do you think will be the next Bond?

I think a Jamie Dornan is a good shout, but it may be a relative unknown.

Ten years ago my money would have been on Idris Elba, but I think his optimum age has passed.

Stephen Graham. He stars in everything else so why not Bond

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 29/09/2021 18:33

Stephen Graham? The funny thing is, he’d be as brilliant as Bond as he is in every other role, despite not being an obvious choice.

freshcarnation · 29/09/2021 18:35

He's my favourite British actor.

Charlie Hunnam? Too pretty? Too old (41)? Never seen him play posh Brit, although he is British. Would be interesting ....

Christinayangtwistedsister · 29/09/2021 18:59

At great personal sacrifice I will interview all of the suggested candidates and feed back to you all

LoganRoy · 29/09/2021 19:00

Isn’t Stephen Graham like 5ft3? He’d look like Bernie Ecclestone with a Bond girl next to him.

Patapouf · 29/09/2021 19:12

@AnyFucker

I am going to take a punt on Harry Styles
Hahaha get out! I was reading the thread thinking nope, nope, nope but HS really made me chuckle.
Patapouf · 29/09/2021 19:16

I like the suggestion of Dev Patel, he's very handsome and a good actor.

Henry Cavill is delicious but I think he might be too obvious. No to Matt Bomer he can't do a convincing English accent. I suspect Tom Hiddlestone will be in the running but I think he's a boring choice.

Idris would have been brilliant but he's far too old, especially if the next Bond has a 16 year run like Daniel Craig has.

I like James Norton too. Not sure who else seems up and coming and might be in the running.

He would be a good villain

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 29/09/2021 19:18

He was extraordinary in Boardwalk Empire.

flippertyop · 29/09/2021 19:20

I'm a massive bond fan. Fucking Harry Styles no fucking way please

5thnonblonde · 29/09/2021 19:21

A crossover with Q as Paddington. In crucial moments Bond (I’m still backing Paterson Joseph) pulls marmalade covered weaponry out and Padders blunders in to adorably remedy the situation/disarm both a nuclear warhead and our hearts

Toastfiendish · 29/09/2021 19:31

I think it will be a person of colour AND a proper actor. I think the only two suggested so far who fit that bill are Dev Patel and Daniel Kaluuya. I'm not sure Dev would say yes - it's a massive commitment and pretty much involves passing up most prestigious work and being pigeon holed and I'm just not sure he'd want that. Possibly Daniel too but he's less famous so maybe more likely to say yes? Daniel Craig hasn't exactly been a good advert for the job since he clearly hates doing it - maybe not the films but the attention/publicly demands.

I also think Robert Pattinson is a proper actor (but not POC) and John Boyega, but I'm not sure they would pick anyone who is in an existing franchise - batman and star wars.

Toastfiendish · 29/09/2021 19:34

I realise I'm on a different page to most other people here as I only like the Daniel Craig ones as they are semi serious (except Quantom of Solace which was rubbish), so all the Chris Hemsworth/Henry Cavill/Richard Madden etc suggestions I can see would be more in keeping with the history of the franchise pre Craig, but I find them wooden or ridiculous so just wouldn't watch it.

Agreed with others it won't be anyone over 35.

Westfacing · 29/09/2021 19:39
@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey I read your first suggestion as Richard Madeley Grin.
So did I! Grin

Westfacing · 29/09/2021 19:59

I too would have gone for Idris but somehow that time has passed.

Now, I'm very old so possibly losing the plot here, but Harry Styles has been mentioned a few times - why? Isn't he a singer, of sorts?

CatKittyCatCatKittyCatCat · 29/09/2021 20:01

@Westfacing He’s got a way with the ladies. His real life would probably put Bond’s exploits to shame.

BelindaBumcrack · 29/09/2021 20:01

James Norton for me. He would be superb! And it is about time we had a Yorkshire James Bond! :-)

I get Tom Hardy, he's a great actor and great to look at but his voice and intonation just leaves me cold. I can't listen to him.

I've just checked him out and he's 6ft tall - but he looks like a little boy!

Hmm, I wonder if he can act though - maybe that doesn't matter. Oh, surely he's not right for the role!

Patapouf · 29/09/2021 20:21

I've given it some more thought this evening and I've decided I approve of the following suggestions:
Sam H from Outlander
Aiden Turner
Robert Sheehan

Definite no to the Bridgerton guy because he's way way too short.
Cillian Murphy has nice eyes but he's far too old.
Jamie Dornan doesn't seem right for the role at all.

I propose Sam Claflin.

Runhome · 29/09/2021 20:24

My guess is Jeremy Irvine

Patapouf · 29/09/2021 20:24

Richard Madden doesn't seem right, is he short or does he just seem short?

Daniel K would be very good. John Boyeha im not sure about, he has a bit of a baby face.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/09/2021 20:39

Henry Cavill or Richard Armitage for me Smile

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 29/09/2021 20:45

There are so many amazing actors from stage, can’t they choose from there? If you want a black guy, and deffo think the representation would be fresh and interesting, I’ve been to see Hamilton twice and some plays a while ago at the Globe, checking the brochures here are some blokes who were all really great standout actors:

www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/people/396

www.londontheatredirect.com/actor/curtis-angus

www.stagefaves.com/performers/stephenson-ardern-sodje/ (He was a-m-a-z-i-n-g in Hamilton)

m.imdb.com/name/nm1556238/ He’s just beautiful and remember him still from Dr Who! Took some Googling but he’s still active

I’m putting these here as I don’t want the James Bond producers to say “Idris Elba would’ve been perfect but he’s too old now, others are in franchises already” like there’s not LOADS of amazing talented black actors out there. I think that’s a card they play - they focus attention on one or two black guys and give whatever reasons to them missing out. Daniel Craig was very open about not wanting to play Bond a few films in, but the producers were clinging on for dear life.
