The sheep are causing chaos

All petrol stations near me now out of diesel

Hope you’re all looking forward to homeschooling again with your full to them being tanks of diesel cars on the drive. How many people really needed a full tank ?

I just despair of how pathetic this country is

How big is a tank that takes £120 of fuel? Unless its an actual tank...
(Our LR Discovery costs £60 to fully fill)

I'm pretty sure my golf costs more than £60 to fill with diesel (i usually only put £30-40 in at a time as I don't do a lot of driving)
I've people put £80-100 of fuel in their cars (if they are next to, or the sale in front of mine) at the garage. I generally don't notice what cars they have but they aren't tanks!

SquirmOfEels · 26/09/2021 08:18

DH has to make two long journeys this week, which would have required a fill-up in order to do remember and get back at the end of the week. It's been his working pattern for a couple of years now, never been a problem.

But because we didn't panic buy, he's going to have to arrange to work from home next week, because he drove (on electric- it's a hybrid) round every 24 hour petrol station in the small hours this morning, and none had fuel. He went across three London boroughs.

We're lucky because only one task in the diary for next week is a problem for him to rearrange - and it's not really 'his' problem. They need his input into an HR matter and that's on an IT system that cannot be accessed remotely and is physically at the distant location. So some poor person is left waiting for longer. Small, in the greater scale of things that will be disrupted this week, but but still not nice for them

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/09/2021 08:20

@BarbaraofSeville

It's alright Wax, they're cutting down bus services in many areas due to a shortage of drivers.

You can't get some bike components for love nor money.

There could be a shortage of comfortable walking shoes for all I know, so you're inconvenienced whatever your chosen mode of transport is.

You're not even safe if you stay at home, half the TV network went off last night for some reason and there's about a million of us who currently don't have a utilities supplier. We're all doomed, I tell you.

A lot of rain is forecast for next week and the new umbrella I ordered isn't here yet, so I'll probably get wet.
BlackberrySky · 26/09/2021 08:25

@Waxonwaxoff0

I don't own a car. Feeling pretty smug right now. Grin (Light hearted!)
Do you also not use services that rely on people getting to work or goods being delivered? Well done you!
Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/09/2021 08:31

@BlackberrySky I said it was lighthearted. Chill. Hmm

Fizbosshoes · 26/09/2021 08:36

I was talking to a friend the other day saying I was probably OK for fuel. My DC walk to school every day, I can walk to the shops and I get public transport to work. (And admit I do use the car more than strictly necessary, mostly to save time)

but while my kids can (and do) walk to school every day I imagine very few of their teachers can....Ditto with out of school activities.
...and while I get to work on public transport, how do the train drivers or station staff get to work?

RedRiverShore · 26/09/2021 08:37

Maybe everyone should put a notice in their car window to let people know if they do a worthy job

Brahumbug · 26/09/2021 08:43

@redrivershore
I know it's 30 litre at home and 10 litres in a metal container. It is called a typo, which I didn't spot. So why don't you shove your crap where the sun doesn't shine.

Brahumbug · 26/09/2021 08:48

@tigger1001
Well, it would help with restricting panic buying, but I accept it would negatively impact some folk like yourself. But no petrol available would also impact you. Whatever really need is for the panic buying to stop.

You posted incorrect information which you didn't check

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/09/2021 08:51

i will need petrol at some point, it is something we take for granted.my dm will need petrol if she wants to come and see me

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/09/2021 08:51

i guess i would be worried if i was on nearly empty and had seen closed petrol stations such as i did on friday

SquirmOfEels · 26/09/2021 08:52

MNers between them seem to know everything!

How does TfL buy its fuel? Are their supplies sound? I'm guessing they are, because there won't be any panic buying by them!

What about emergency service vehicles?

BlackberrySky · 26/09/2021 08:54

@Waxonwaxoff0 maybe "lighthearted" and "smug" is inappropriate on this thread? Just a thought... Hmm

Mollymalone123 · 26/09/2021 09:00

@Difford so was I 🥲 happens a as log where I live too 😂
I didn’t fill up- on Thursday I got £30 worth as my light was on red and I live in the middle of nowhere and need to get to work- our small garage put the £30 limit on Thursday am and people didn’t moan about it-if everyone had done the same that early on and only got fuel as needed then we wouldn’t be in this mess now.
It’s the toilet roll scenario again

Mumof3dogs · 26/09/2021 09:02

I filled up because I need enough to get to work . It's not far away but I can't get there any other way.

I work in a vaccination hub - COVID and flu jabs going on now. I think the patients would be pissed off if they arrived to find no staff..

Nidan2Sandan · 26/09/2021 09:05

I filled my car up on friday as I would do normally. It was on the red and I live rurally so need my car to get the kids to school & me to work. Yes, could have just half filled it. But that would last 3, maybe 4 days tops and I dont know when this shit show I'll end so filled up to be sure I could get the kids to school all week.

DH filled his car up as he's in emergency services so needed to be able to get to work.

I dont care if our reasons get your seal of approval, but save the anger for the twats filling up endless jerry cans. They're the ones who cause this as they bought more than they would do otherwise (or maybe they have a huge lawn to mow GrinWink)

blueskytoday06 · 26/09/2021 09:08

Yeah let's blame each other when this is clearly not our fault. We all can justify having petrol in our cars. I don't feel like anyone should have to explain why they did so.

Branster · 26/09/2021 09:20

@Difford

I'm a bit disappointed that this thread isn't about actual sheep causing chaos tbh. Clicked on it thinking there was some sort of farmaggedon going on.
😂😂😂 - same here
Brahumbug · 26/09/2021 09:35

@redrivershore
No, can't you read? I didn't post incorrect information that I didn't check, I made a typo that I didn't spot. Different thing altogether. I know you can store 30 litres at home, we store 30 litres for our narrowboat. If you had said something polite along the lines of 'did you mean 30 rather than 10' I would have realised i had made a typo and corrcted the error and thsnked you for pointing out. Instead you chose to wade in and be rude.

Thewiseoneincognito · 26/09/2021 09:42

Drove from south to the north last night, half the services had No Fuel signs before the motorway exits on M25, M40 and M6. It’s a nightmare for the non panic buyers who will now find themselves stuck during a long journey without anywhere to fill up.

We’re sleep walking towards potential disaster here and our media is just exasperating the situation unnecessarily.

Stay safe MNers.

Explosivefarts · 26/09/2021 09:45

Everyone thinks their reason for a full tank is valid everyone else doing it is an idiot.

Devastatedyetagain · 26/09/2021 10:04

Clicked on this because of the title and was disappointed however I did fill up with diesel yesterday and I wasn't empty! The reason - I need to round various villages to check my sheep! I can't walk to them and they need checking daily. Everyone needs fuel for different reasons, nobody is more entitled than anyone else. It is media hype that has caused this.

SerendipityJane · 26/09/2021 10:27

Ultimately this is what happens when people have fuck all trust in the government.

Or, to put it in words of one syllable: "Would you trust them ?"

The moment I heard there was nothing to worry about I knew it was time to look to my own (again).

FortunesFavour · 26/09/2021 10:32

Yes yes OP, everyone else is a selfish idiot whereas you are morally righteous. Perhaps get it printed on a t-shirt to properly trumpet your disapproval?…’piss off sheep, respect my superiority’.
