The sheep are causing chaos

All petrol stations near me now out of diesel

Hope you’re all looking forward to homeschooling again with your full to them being tanks of diesel cars on the drive. How many people really needed a full tank ?

I just despair of how pathetic this country is

@tigger1001

"Not in one go £70 one time apparently then “just topped it back up in case” yesterday"

But then if they had only just filled it and yet needed another £50 of fuel that suggests they have used quite a lot of it in a few days.

Or were you exaggerating for dramatic effect? Your neighbours have only just topped up by £50 since this started and not £120?

Read my other post re their day out and second car

Not my neighbours either

Was a cross post.

But my point still stands. They used the fuel. Facts missed out of your original post to make it seem worse.

MatildaIThink · 25/09/2021 12:31

@Derrymum123

Maybe they need to get to work too? Probably end up with key workers being prioritized if it isn't sorted soon.
They might have needed to get to work as well, but the only reason there is currently a fuel shortage is the panic buying, they were keeping up with demand in but two petrol stations and even if there was no driver shortage they would not be able to keep up with current demand.

If people just filled up on their normal cycle it would be fine, it is the panic buyers that are causing this problem.

liveforsummer · 25/09/2021 12:31

You don't think people should be using fuel to have days out? Christ we've been stuck home enough on the last couple of years. Let people live a little

arield · 25/09/2021 12:32

@trappedsincesundaymorn

I agree OP. It's funny how this weekend everybody has suddenly "run out" of fuel. As far as I recall there were no long queues last week, the week before or...well any when really. What an amazing coincidence that on the same weekend the media published a story about 3 garages having to close, half the population all had to fill up at the exact same weekend.
People run out of fuel all the time, it's hardly hard to imagine that people need fuel this weekend
MrsDThomas · 25/09/2021 12:34

I have a full tank @DebbieHarrysCheekbones. I need the fuel to drive to work. Like everyone else.

And tbh i dont care if you’re pissed off. I doubt very much that you're more important than the next person.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 25/09/2021 12:35

@Difford

I'm a bit disappointed that this thread isn't about actual sheep causing chaos tbh. Clicked on it thinking there was some sort of farmaggedon going on.
That's next week's crisis. Week after that it's ducks with guns, and week after THAT is sharknado.

No I clarified yes you are right that detail well it should have been there originally it was not absent for dramatic effect I was just being lazy Grin

Using fuel for a day out of is your choice
But to go back and fill up again and whatever the second car cost is selfish sand unnecessary and exactly the sort of thing other people are doing just in case and not in a needs basis
Taking more than they need just in case
They still had more enough to get to work every one of the three days this coming week

puppyknowsbest · 25/09/2021 12:36

It's perfectly logical to ensure you have a fullish tank if there is a danger of shortages.
I wouldn't trust anything this government says, so I feel zero guilt about making sure our two cars have plenty of fuel.

itbemay1 · 25/09/2021 12:37

NHS front line worker here, had an email from trust yesterday to advise certain staff groups to fill up ASAP... not helping situation and adds to sense of panic. I didn't as I have half a tank but I will need to by next weekend..

liveforsummer · 25/09/2021 12:38

I've nearly run out of fuel despite filling up on Monday (for the first time using the new E10). I always fill up if I can afford to and normally a tank lasts me closer to 3 weeks. I'm going be to be filling up a whole lot more often and nothing to do with panic buying either. Bad timing. Wonder how many others with older cars are affected this way?!

Shannith · 25/09/2021 12:38

I was really hoping this was about loose sheep

1 main thing I've learned over Covid is how selfish ppl are. It's a shame there's no way pumps could be set to only allow each person a set amount of petrol.

Quite obvious many people are like you and don’t care Im not more important If I was I would have sat like half the customers yesterday and bought fuck tonnes of fuel just in case I didn’t

Anyway aren’t loads of people still wfh ?

well,I'm an NHS clinician working in a community mental health team looking after some of the most unwell and vulnerable patients. My job involves driving round the region visiting patients at home. I always fill my car up at the weekend and had virtually no petrol left yesterday.
Dh is a teacher and fills his car up every Friday evening at the local Morrisons with diesel. Last night there was no diesel at morrisons, or several other petrol stations he tried on his 20 mile drive home form work. Hie fuel light was flashing by the time he got home.
so yes, we have both been out and managed to fill our cars up today, as we both needed petrol/diesel to enable us both to get to work next week.
What would you rather we did?? leave our cars empty and tell work we're sorry but we cant make it in next week?

liveforsummer · 25/09/2021 12:45

But you can only fill a tank til it's full. The people filling a boot full of Jerry cans yes that's unreasonable but I can't get upset over someone refilling their empty or nearly empty tank after they've used their fuel
AnxiousAbi · 25/09/2021 12:46

Those people coming on and saying they were in the red and needed petrol anyway - well that’s fine. It wasn’t people in the red who would have been going for fuel anyway that was causing queues that were miles long.

In any normal day I might wait 10 minutes at my local Tesco. Usually there is no wait at all. Yesterday the queue was massive (not sure of wait time but it would have been long!)

This isn’t people who thought “oh I need fuel, I will pop to get some”

It was people who saw the news and went in a panic. Despite being told to buy as normal because there was sufficient supply

ArcheryAnnie · 25/09/2021 12:47

Might it help if there was a ban on filling jerrycans?

tigger1001 · 25/09/2021 12:49

@liveforsummer

You don't think people should be using fuel to have days out? Christ we've been stuck home enough on the last couple of years. Let people live a little
Exactly!! Who is anyone to judge what is worthy of filling up for?

I've been stuck indoors until yesterday due to Covid. Otherwise I would have already had fuel. But only got a quarter of a tank which will last until maybe Tuesday night. Now if I pass a fuel station tomorrow which doesn't have queues and has fuel, is it selfish to put £20 in? Or should I wait until Tuesday night and have my fingers crossed?

AnxiousAbi · 25/09/2021 12:51

@tigger1001 - this is normal buying - which we are being urged to do. Carry on as normal as there is apparently enough

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 25/09/2021 12:56

So if this is what you normally do how come there are all these queues when it’s never usually this bad??!!!

There are enough people deliberately buying more than they need on a weekly basis over the last 24-48 hours because they watched Phil McCann (no joke) at a fuel station for a news report or read the Fail and went into free fall

OP posts:
Profilejacket · 25/09/2021 12:56

I filled up this morning because I’d got to less than a quarter of a tank and have a couple of long drives in the next few days.

I filled up completely because that’s what I normally do-unless I’m short of money which I’m not because I’ve just been paid.

Why should I modify my normal buying when apparently there isn’t a shortage?

SmileyClare · 25/09/2021 12:57

@MissCruellaDeVil

Oh to add, I now have a useless car because all the selfish dicks have ran all the pumps dry within a 15 mile radius. That means I can't get to work on Monday, nor can I take the DC to school. I can use DH's car, but he will need it for work too.
Can you siphon some petrol from your dh's car and use it in yours? See You Tube for instructions.
MissCruellaDeVil · 25/09/2021 12:57

@Aroundtheworldin80moves
I have a Range Rover that's normally just over £100 to fill from when it asks me to refuel. If I leave it for a few more miles it could easily go to £120.

MissCruellaDeVil · 25/09/2021 12:58

@SmileyClare
Sadly no, mike is diesel and DH's petrol :(
