The sheep are causing chaos

All petrol stations near me now out of diesel

Hope you’re all looking forward to homeschooling again with your full to them being tanks of diesel cars on the drive. How many people really needed a full tank ?

I just despair of how pathetic this country is

I'm a bit disappointed that this thread isn't about actual sheep causing chaos tbh. Clicked on it thinking there was some sort of farmaggedon going on.
Same Blush Dissapointed.

@DebbieHarrysCheekbones

Nobody needs a full tank of fuel to drive to work generally

Nobody feels more or less secure with a full tank of fuel especially when nurses, shop staff, police, teachers etc can’t get to work what will happen then?

Someone voted this shower of shit in didn’t they?

Some of us are out based and use a full tank every week?

No, I don't want to homeschool again.

No, I haven't filled my diesel tank. I have enough, thanks.

Stop being so fucking judgemental.

The media are on the big beach shouting shark.
The sheep have all run away to the too small beach.
The government should have killed the shark.

There was no shark.

Farmaggedon 🤣🤣 That's brilliant! Thanks for making my morning! 🐑🐑

@LadyCatStark

I filled up my tank yesterday and here’s why:
  1. my fuel light was on so the rest is a moot point.
  2. I live in the middle of nowhere and won’t be near a petrol station for the rest of the weekend.
  3. next week I am finally being allowed back out to work to actually support my families who have children from 0-3 with SEND. This involves driving to their homes to do a session with the parent and child. My parents have had no support from anyone except crappy video calls from me for 18 months. Some of them were actually born in lockdown. This time of their lives is absolutely crucial and nothing will stop me getting out to them next week. Especially if there’s more restrictions/ work from home orders over winter. At least I’ll be able to give them something before it all goes to shot again. So no, none of the petrol I put in yesterday is “for” me and tea, I will use a full tank next week.
I feel for you, and yes, you are one of the people I don't want to stop getting petrol. I hope you have a great week back at work and Im glad your parents will get to see you.

Ignore the bitchy comments x

Littleants · 25/09/2021 11:55

I don't think its a thing. We will see if all the drivers are forced to rely on public transport, which would be the real affect of no petrol for cars. Already getting sat on by strangers in full buses so fingers crossed that won’t happen.

MargaretThursday · 25/09/2021 11:55

It's one of those things that it's easy to blame others.

I drove past the massive queue at Sainsbury's on Friday feeling smug that I had an almost full tank. Normally I'd have filled it up when I was doing the shopping, however dh did a very long journey earlier in the week and ran it almost out, so I had to fill it up before the situation hit.

However if it had hit two days sooner, yes I would have been in that queue with the situation that if they ran out of fuel I'd have been walking home as there wasn't enough in the tank to get me home.

So now I have enough in the tank to see us through 10 days of normal driving, and I'll be surprised if the situation hasn't changed by then.

BUT I'll be making sure we're not doing any extra journeys, I've told the dc that they need to be prepared to walk to school (roughly an hour walk) and home again unless we're going directly somewhere else (like dd's music lesson), and I'll be walking to work (again about an hour).
To me that's being cautious, but I'm fairly comfortable that we won't run out of petrol.

However, my oldest is at university 5 hours away. She has raging toothache, dental phobia to a massive extreme, and can't find anywhere that's prepared to even see her locally-111 says phone the dentists, the dentists won't see her except one which offered an emergency appointment in November.
It is at the back of my mind that I can't go and pick her up and bring her back to see her normal dentist who is brilliant with her and if I could get her here would definitely see her even if he was fully booked (yes, he's a gem).
Is that an unnecessary journey? Possibly. Would I do it? Yes, I would.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/09/2021 11:56

DH has just enough fuel to get home from work on his motorbike. But not back again. Unfortunately a moot point as he can't come home as younger DD tested positive.

Both cars have half tanks. So covered for emergencies.

Hopefully it will calm down by next week.

Fairyfalls · 25/09/2021 11:56

It's a taking kids to uni Weekend. I can get there but will have to join the queues to get back! People do have valid reasons

Well you’ve fallen for the government’s message hook, line and sinker haven’t you?

There are shortages, or rather fuel is not where it needs to be. Relatively small disruption will have an impact on an essentially just-in-time supply chain. You have absolutely no idea how much fuel people have in their tanks, or why they need it, yet you’re following the flock and castigating them all.

It suits the government that we blame each other rather than them.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 25/09/2021 12:02

Meh. At least fuel isn’t like bog rolls where you could literally fill your house with them - once tanks are full they are full, shouldn’t be an issue for long if there really is less than 100 BP stations impacted.

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 25/09/2021 12:07

@WiseUpJanetWeiss

When people you know work five miles away from home three days a week but have put £120 of fuel in their tank “ because they want to be on the safe side” then somethings off
Don’t tell me they’re the only ones

So don’t tell me I don’t know

How big is a tank that takes £120 of fuel? Unless its an actual tank...
(Our LR Discovery costs £60 to fully fill)

Chloemol · 25/09/2021 12:11

@ThePlantsitter

Stop blaming other people. This is the government's fault. Theirs, and only theirs. They have created a country wide feeling of anxiety about everything. They have insisted people should attend offices. They have caused a petrol shortage so that people can't easily attend offices. It's a perfect storm. I'm sick of people turning on each other; they are just trying to protect themselves and their families. This instinct is why government was invented in the first place.

(By the way, not that it matters but I haven't bought any petrol. I don't need to.)

No it’s not

It’s down to irresponsible reporting and scaremongering by the press. BP didn’t have to say they had issues, it was 100 forecourts out of 8500 across the country in total

People read idiotic headlines, and it doesn’t matter how much the Government says there is no issue ( because hey there is not all others have said they didn’t have a problem), which they did the idiots believe what the press say and here we are

Just like last year and all the extra food buying, of which a lot of fresh food was then thrown away

"It’s down to irresponsible reporting and scaremongering by the press."

People need to have confidence that the machinery of the state and the systems we all use and in good working order.

First it was just chicken, then shelves in some supermarkets, now fuel. What has the government done? Says we have robust supply systems and everything is fine. Yet everyone can see that shortages are effecting a wider range of goods and their availability is becoming unpredictable.

Government messages and their reputation for gaslighting, making announcements via the press etc have eroded trust.

Ironic people go on about losing freedoms and one of those is the press. Do we want a country where we control people by limiting what information they have available to them?

liveforsummer · 25/09/2021 12:21

That doesn't make sense, surely they must have used/needed the fuel in order to have an empty tank refill?

I too am disappointed though having opened this blooming for a story on errant livestock

Was thinking that too. My car is generally 65 - 70 to fill from almost empty

No the extra fuel was a a day out yesterday

They incidentally have another car which is unused half the time they’ve also filled up

Fuel for necessary business and to get to work I get
This I don’t

"Not in one go £70 one time apparently then “just topped it back up in case” yesterday"

But then if they had only just filled it and yet needed another £50 of fuel that suggests they have used quite a lot of it in a few days.

Or were you exaggerating for dramatic effect? Your neighbours have only just topped up by £50 since this started and not £120?
