I'm 22 and have been to 1 wedding but I was a kid. I dont know much about the dos and don'ts for wedding guest outfits.
Is this an alright outfit to wear or is it too colourful? Too short?

@MargosKaftan

OP - what's your budget, what dress size/shape are you, and is it a church wedding?

Any cultural issues to be factored in? (Eg i was always told not to wear green to weddings on the Irish side of our family, the "no green rule" was never explained)

Apparently green is bad luck.

I dont know much about the dos and don'ts for wedding guest outfits

The person who needs to be the centre of attention on the day is the Bride.

Guests should make sure their outfit does not draw everyone's attention, does not look Bridal so not white or nearly all white and is not too short, not too tight and not too low cut.

This, in the first 45 seconds, is absolutely what NOT to do Smile

You'll get more appropriate recommendations if you can say a bit about the wedding- church? Reception venue? Traditional or modern? Plus your dress size, shape, colouring etc.

@AnotherFruitcake

If the wedding guest theme is ‘Slutty Can-Can Barbie’, then you’re all set, OP. Otherwise, no.

I’m 22 and I actually love the first one. All though it defo wont turn up looking like the pic

Johnnybaby · 24/09/2021 19:10

What about something like this? It's short and it's got the ruffles you seem to like and I think it's nice and young. Maybe a nicer balance between your taste and something that won't shock other guests?

If you want something frilly and purple how about this?

It’s a bit more wedding that the first one, I’m sorry but that’s more ‘club’ style than wedding.

Chichi have some lovely dresses suitable for a wedding.

As a general rule for weddings - nothing too revealing and you should never wear anything that will take attention away from the bride and your first choice certainly would. Even if she turns up looking like a cross between Princess Kate and Beyoncé that dress will be distracting the other guests attention! Great for a festival or clubbing. A definite no-no for a wedding.

@Clymene

What's the vulva in a cage thing in the right hand photo? I want one!

@MrsFin

Is it a Traveller wedding? If yes, you'll fit right in. If no, I'd go for c something a bit more subdued and longer
I came here to say that 😂

Isn't green bad luck at a wedding in this country?

sqirrelfriends · 24/09/2021 19:20

Sorry but they're both awful, the second one less so.

Honestly, if someone turned up to my wedding in that first dress I would be wondering what I had done to upset them.

Skyla2005 · 24/09/2021 19:20

Lipsey do nice dresses think next directory do them

Skyla2005 · 24/09/2021 19:21

Lipsy should say

Sophie1029734 · 24/09/2021 19:21

I still stick with the fact I love the first 2 dresses but now I relise how bad they are for a wedding. This forms being really insightful. I'm gonna look at everyone suggestions now :)

The first chi chi one you've linked is lovely, the last one is unsuitable as it's white and actually not dissimilar to what I wore to my wedding.

sylbunny · 24/09/2021 19:23

All the ones you linked are fine except the white! I can't emphasise enough how you cannot where white, cream, ivory or any kind of pale pink etc!

Sophie1029734 · 24/09/2021 19:25

Its baby blue but it's really does look white on the screenshot, it's not my favourite but it was on the sale lol x

@Sophie1029734 I don’t think the first one is actually bad for a wedding! I’m your age I’d wear it!
Nancydrawn · 24/09/2021 19:26

This is either very very dry and funny, or very very off base.

OP, nothing that draws too much attention to you rather than the bride. Ideally within a few inches of the knee or longer, not too deep-cut. Doesn't have to be fussy or frumpy or boring, but no one needs a fake-silk skater dress that will blow up with a good gust of wind. And I know puff sleeves are in, but they will look horribly dated in about thirty seconds from now, so avoid.
