Would you say this was a low calorie day?

Breakfast - oatsosimple porridge (the strawberry one) with skimmed milk followed by a bacon and egg - both fried in a little oil - sandwich on wholemeal bread, no sauce or butter

Dinner - grilled chicken breast, loads of spinach. Homemade salad consisting of tomatoes, onions, peppers, celery, sweetcorn, beetroot and cucumber. Mixed in with some natural yoghurt and lemon juice instead of mayo.

Snacks - a banana, a packet of quavers, a fudge.

Not particularly. What are Quavers?

HurryUpAndWait23 · 13/09/2021 17:29

No!
Not even slightly.

2typesofjungle · 13/09/2021 17:30

Without quantities its hard to tell, but it sounds reasonable - not high or low.
Take out the bacon and egg sandwich at breakfast and the fudge and you've got a low calorie day.

Well how many calories was it? That's how I judge a low calorie day.

TheFoundations · 13/09/2021 17:31

It depends on how many calories you ate and how many you need, neither of which you've stated.

WibbleyWobble · 13/09/2021 17:32

Sounds low to me. I'm on a calorie deficit diet and have 2 x 100 cal (or there abouts) snacks aday. The idea is to be in a couple of hundred cals deficit, not 1000.

😂😂😂
Trappedinflatandskint · 13/09/2021 17:33

I would add up all of the calories in the foods to find out. But two breakfasts - neither of which were great - isn't very good. Better having plain oats than package crap and the sandwich later for lunch

BlueberrySugar · 13/09/2021 17:33

Depends doesn't it. How many calories was it? How many slices of bacon, did you cut the fat off etc?

BorderlineHappy · 13/09/2021 17:34

Quavers are only about 100 calories.
The porridge is really high in sugar.
The bacon and egg sounds fine
Dinner sounds good

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 13/09/2021 17:35

I think it's around 1345 calories in total, I've also walked 11k steps today and burned some calories there too although you can't out-train a bad diet. I've lost around 24lbs so far... struggling to get that last bloody half stone off!! I don't usually allow bread but I knew I'd be out all day so needed extra fuel.

The meals look ok to me, maybe you could choose plain porridge rather than the sweetened one and choose nuts instead of the quavers and fudge (both low ish calories but zero nutrition and wouldn't keep you going)

HotPenguin · 13/09/2021 17:36

No, it sounds like too much sugar and carbs to me - apart from the dinner which sounds low calorie and healthy. I assume the oats so simple is sugary, I've always found them very sweet?

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/09/2021 17:36

No , not really.

Farfalle88 · 13/09/2021 17:38

Not very well balanced. Plain oats made into porridge would be better. Why the need for a bacon sandwich too? Cut out the Quavers and fudge.- It’s just crap. Salad and chicken breast are good choices. There’s no fruit though?

WheelieBinPrincess · 13/09/2021 17:38

‘What are Quavers?’ Grin

I very rarely laugh at anything on here but that is funny.

OFC you’re going to be told that’s too much sugar and carbs OP. Welcome to Mumsnet.

A water biscuit and a satsuma is more than enough for a low calorie day according to some on here.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 13/09/2021 17:39

It's what I might eat if I was looking to maintain my weight rather than lose - though I'd avoid the fudge and quavers unless it was a one-off, and have more fruit or some bran instead.

TheMarzipanDildo · 13/09/2021 17:40

Sounds great to me.

TheMarzipanDildo · 13/09/2021 17:42

“Why the need for a bacon sandwich too? Cut out the Quavers and fudge.- It’s just crap. Salad and chicken breast are good choices. There’s no fruit though?”

I presumed the bacon sandwich was lunch/instead of lunch, and tomatoes and bananas are both fruit.

ThePlantsitter · 13/09/2021 17:44

It's the food diary of someone who is 'on a diet' but not really sticking to it tbh. I don't know how many calories but a bacon & egg sandwich AND a fudge and a packet of quavers is excessive but your dinner of a chicken breast and salad doesn't seem filling! I'd be concentrating on satisfying healthy meals and skipping the snacks & not lunch.

WheelieBinPrincess · 13/09/2021 17:47

Quavers have 87 calories in a packet guys.

Fudge bar is 97.

Let’s not lose our shit over it.

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 13/09/2021 17:51

The diet I've been doing since November has been calorie based alone, I can literally eat anything I want as long as I don't go over. I know it's not the most nutritional way of doing it but fuck it, it's worked and most of the time I do include boiled eggs, apples, natural yoghurt etc. I eat so much chicken I'm surprised I don't have feathers. (I also never eat after 5/6 pm and I think this really helps).

But I'm on holiday this week so out of routine and going over my limit a bit. Hence the bigger breakfast and no lunch as I'm out, exploring and on the go all day.

Yes, they're low in calories, but they're full of processed rubbish - they won't fill you up and the fudge will cause sugar-spikes and hunger. Fine to have them occasionally but I wouldn't have them on a daily basis if I was trying to eat healthily, whether or not I actually wanted to lose weight.

OP - sympathies. I am trying to shift the last stone after losing two and a half stone since January. It's slooooow. Sad

Mariell · 13/09/2021 17:54

I’ve now googled and know what they are! They don’t look particularly appetising and what I would describe as being a bag of empty calories.
