Would you say this was a low calorie day?

Breakfast - oatsosimple porridge (the strawberry one) with skimmed milk followed by a bacon and egg - both fried in a little oil - sandwich on wholemeal bread, no sauce or butter

Dinner - grilled chicken breast, loads of spinach. Homemade salad consisting of tomatoes, onions, peppers, celery, sweetcorn, beetroot and cucumber. Mixed in with some natural yoghurt and lemon juice instead of mayo.

Snacks - a banana, a packet of quavers, a fudge.

Fuck me, no wonder eating disorders are on the rise.

VladmirsPoutine · 13/09/2021 19:38

Why have essentially 2 breakfasts? Porridge in and of itself is pretty filling no?

Tiredforfive45 · 13/09/2021 19:38

Eating 800 calories a day is disordered eating. Your body cannot do all the things it needs to do to function healthily on 800 calories.

Telling people that they should not be eating bananas is not only ridiculous but also promoting dangerous food related thoughts.

People have different goals when they are losing weight. If the OP only wants to lose weight then all they need to do is eat in a calorie deficit. The amount of sugar or processed foods is irrelevant if she isn’t focused on reducing that.

OP - the TDEE calculator estimates you need approx 2031 calories for maintenance (I had to guess your age at 30 so you will need to recalculate with your real age) which suggests you are in a huge deficit with 1345 calories.

CallMeRisley · 13/09/2021 19:43

I thought the “what are quavers” was the craziest comment on this thread, but then I read

Europeans shouldn’t really eat tropical fruit like bananas - we didn’t evolve to eat it.

Wtf Confused

hermioneweasley44 · 13/09/2021 19:45

I am trying to lose weight and have been set a target of 1600 calories a day. Appreciate this is different for everyone but from my point of view 1345 calories would be a low day. It sounds pretty balanced too.

Buggerthebotox · 13/09/2021 19:49

It's fine. With the exercise calories counted in, I'd say you are slightly undereating. That's the kind of amount I eat daily for a very slow rate of loss. I'm 5'4.

Idbemonica1 · 13/09/2021 19:54

Sadly any day that includes fried egg and bacon on bread - wholemeal or not is probably not a low cal day

TheFoundations · 13/09/2021 20:13

Well, that's not true. A day with a bacon and egg sandwich in it can have too many calories or not enough. A bacon and egg sandwich doesn't dictate what else you eat for the rest of the day.
crimsonlake · 13/09/2021 20:16

You are literally having two breakfasts, how can that be low calorie?

TheFoundations · 13/09/2021 20:17

Who has evolved to eat bananas? I'm curious. Have Europeans evolved differently to other humans?

She isn't having lunch though.
lljkk · 13/09/2021 20:18

Sounds very healthy to me
Calorie count Depends on portion sizes

Breakfast - oatsosimple porridge (the strawberry one)
This is some kind of packaged product? they are tiny, so low cal, 80 kcal

with skimmed milk
presume that's like half a cup, not half a litre, 50 kcal

followed by a bacon and egg - both fried in a little oil - sandwich on wholemeal bread, no sauce or butter
Sarnie sounds like 600 kcal

Dinner -grilled chicken breast
how big?!! Oh well, assume it's not huge, 200 kcal

loads of spinach. Homemade salad consisting of tomatoes, onions, peppers, celery, sweetcorn, beetroot and cucumber.... lemon juice
almost no calories there

Mixed in with some natural yoghurt
Assume that's like one big spoon-full of low fat yogurt? then maybe 80 kcal

Snacks - a banana
100 kcal?
a packet of quavers
100 kcal?
a fudge
Like this size? that's 100 kcal

I get to total about 1410, pretty close to OP's guess.

I'd be still very hungry on that, so counts as low calorie in my world. Adult DD eats no more than 1500/day, so might think it's buckets

Would you say this was a low calorie day?
MarleneDietrichsSmile · 13/09/2021 20:21

Sounds very low cal to me Shock

Am always astounded how little MNers eat

For comparison, I eat between 2500-3000cals per day for maintenance (staying the weight I am)

TheFoundations · 13/09/2021 20:21

Because if the rest of the calories for the day don't add up to her daily calorie requirement, she would be in a deficit.

Counting calories is a horrible rough calculation anyway, but this thread doesn't even seem to have grasped the basics.

NavigatingAdolescence · 13/09/2021 20:24

Even the way we count calories is wrong. There’s an entire book about it.

Avoiding shit non-food is where everyone should start.

foreverlobsters · 13/09/2021 20:28

@HalzTangz

OP, fried bacon and egg in oil wouldn't be low calories, the crisps and fudge should have been swerved to. Did you not have a lunch?

You would be better to have the porridge (with water not milk) for breakfast and a glass of water.

Something light for lunch (salad)

Your tea was fine.

Snacks, stick to fruit or nuts. Fill up on glasses of water

Wow. Aghast at some of the disordered and harmful comments on this thread but this one takes the biscuit (possibly the wrong phrase to use)

But we are all different. We can't all eat that amount and stay at a healthy BMI.

You're hardly a whale. Your BMI is in the healthy range for your height. You might not quite be at your personal happiest weight, but being a 12 not a 10 on the bottom is not equivalent to being a 'whale'.

You're not alone OP. I fear your thread has naturally attracted a lot of people who seem to revel in posting harmful comments, mixed in with people who don't understand calories at all (an egg an bacon sandwich can, for example, be a very low calorie and high protein meal).
VladmirsPoutine · 13/09/2021 20:40

I just wanted to say that I've been on Mumsnet for years and have read countless of threads & posts but this sentence, this single sentence, is hands down the most batshit thing I have ever read on here. It's actually insane:

Europeans shouldn’t really eat tropical fruit like bananas - we didn’t evolve to eat it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/09/2021 20:40

Fine calorie wise.

Have you tried “frying” eggs in water? Oil adds lots of excess calories and not much else. Little bit of water and one of those things that stop fat spitting out if the pan on top if it. Grill the bacon instead of frying. At least 100 calories less with no loss of taste.

You seem to have mistaken a straightforward question from the OP as an invitation for you to proselytise in the subject of your 'expertise'

It isn't.

We don't need the uninformed lecture thanks
