Would you say this was a low calorie day?

Breakfast - oatsosimple porridge (the strawberry one) with skimmed milk followed by a bacon and egg - both fried in a little oil - sandwich on wholemeal bread, no sauce or butter

Dinner - grilled chicken breast, loads of spinach. Homemade salad consisting of tomatoes, onions, peppers, celery, sweetcorn, beetroot and cucumber. Mixed in with some natural yoghurt and lemon juice instead of mayo.

Snacks - a banana, a packet of quavers, a fudge.

These comments are bat shit.

1345 is very low calorie.
In fact it is lower than most bodies need to even function so unless you are teeny tiny you need to increase the amount you are eating And no, it doesn’t matter whether they are fruit calories or carb calories or chocolate calories if your aim is only weight loss (rather than muscle building, or other health benefits).

Many people have a really skewed view of food and saying someone is ‘failing to diet’ because they ate 200 calories of snacks creates a very unhealthy view of eating. Neither fudge or quavers need to be a one off.

Eat foods you enjoy. Stay in a deficit. Stay consistent. You’re doing great!

I've calorie counted for two years and have lost w stone.

I am struggling now though with the lack of food and weight not coming off.

I have been dping slimming world and have lost 2lb in a week.

I can eat so much!!

allycat4 · 13/09/2021 18:02

This thread is mad!!

The fudge and Quavers are relatively low calorie snacks. They are, admittedly, of little nutritional benefit but they're still low in calories in themselves.

Not even slightly. And all that processed food/additives.

shinynewapple21 · 13/09/2021 18:04

I would say fairly low calorie without the snacks as although you have a large breakfast, you are only eating one other meal which is very low calorie . If the bacon and egg sandwich was for lunch instead of part of breakfast I think I this would look very reasonable .

Perhaps not particularly healthy though .

Could be better with

Plain oat so simple with real strawberries for breakfast.

Scrambled eggs on toast with grilled tomato .

Chicken salad is fine .

With your snacks. Although not particularly healthy I would estimate that to about 1500 cals .

LaurieFairyCake · 13/09/2021 18:06

Yes it's very obviously low calorie

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/09/2021 18:07

The disordered eating of MN strikes again.

I would be starving on 1300 calories a day.

You’re allowed to enjoy food, not just in holiday - but all the time!

Also Quavers are delicious.

I’ve eaten only functional foods for 3 months. I’m 3 stone lighter and brimming with health for the first time in about 15 years.

It’s so much more than calories in v calories out. Lots of info out there about process foods.

Homemade mayo way better for you than yogurt, non-processed oats better than that packet muck. Europeans shouldn’t really eat tropical fruit like bananas - we didn’t evolve to eat it. 85+% dark choc has health benefits far in excess of the sugar of a fudge and quavers.

I did the fast800 and was never hungry. 800 cals of the right foods is far more satisfying than 2000 of the wrong ones.
NerrSnerr · 13/09/2021 18:08

It surely depends on the person. It the OP is 6ft6 and 15 stone then it is low calorie. If she's 4ft6 and 7 stone then not so much.

BorderlineHappy · 13/09/2021 18:09

The thing is the quavers and the fudge will stop you bingeing crap later, then eat them.
CC is basically a little bit of what you fancy.
Just work it in to your day.

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 13/09/2021 18:10

I'm 5"3 and am 9st11 (or was last week!). A current dress size 10, jeans size 12, but aiming for a 10 (I'm a pear)

To add to my above comment I reckon most people would be in a calorie deficit eating that.

There are many people on MN who insist that they only eat 800 calories a day and anything more is extremely greedy.

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/09/2021 18:11

Navigating I believe you, but I still think that a fully grown active adult woman eating only 800 calories a day is disordered eating.

A little bit of that kind of stuff won't stop you wanting it later, it'll make you crave more.

It's basic digestive biology.

This thread is disordered!

There are scientific reasons where it may be a good idea.

(The “western diet” is utterly disordered. We didn’t evolve to eat 90% of the “food” on supermarket shelves.)

According to the NHS calculator, your BMI is healthy, although at the upper end of healthy - so it will be more difficult to lose weight because you're not carrying around excess weight. Mine's now 25.9 and it's much harder and slower to lose than when I started with a BMI of 33, and I'm still overweight!

The Dinner probably is.

You will need to go back and calculate the calories for the rest. ‘A little’ oil is probably at least a tbsp (usually more) if you pour it from the bottle.

HalzTangz · 13/09/2021 18:40

@Mariell

Not particularly. What are Quavers?
Quavers are low calorie crisps. 92 calories a pack or something like that
HalzTangz · 13/09/2021 18:42

OP, fried bacon and egg in oil wouldn't be low calories, the crisps and fudge should have been swerved to.
Did you not have a lunch?

You would be better to have the porridge (with water not milk) for breakfast and a glass of water.

Something light for lunch (salad)

Your tea was fine.

Snacks, stick to fruit or nuts. Fill up on glasses of water

SquirryTheSquirrel · 13/09/2021 18:44

OP, fried bacon and egg in oil wouldn't be low calories

An easy swap to reduce the calories would be grilled bacon and poached egg, or sliced boiled egg for a sandwich.

MsWalterMitty · 13/09/2021 18:46

@Mariell

Not particularly. What are Quavers?
Guessing you’re not UK based?... If so, wtf!
MilduraS · 13/09/2021 18:48

I'm 5ft 2 and lost weight on 1400 calories a day. I'm not particular active either. I'd say it's fine.

CallMeRisley · 13/09/2021 19:09

@Mariell

I’ve now googled and know what they are! They don’t look particularly appetising and what I would describe as being a bag of empty calories.
Do you like outside the U.K.?
CallMeRisley · 13/09/2021 19:10

@Mariell sorry that should say live* above
