If someone was dressed like this what would you think?

This is for an event where you wear costumes.

What would you think they'd come as / were trying to look like?

(Having a slight disagreement with DS!)

Thanks :)

I’d assume a game or comic that I don’t recognize instantly.

Daydrambeliever · 13/09/2021 14:16

@astoundedgoat

Presumably the event he is going to is themed towards this though? So if it's a con, his costume is relevant and immediately recognisable. He's not going to a Mumsnet Meetup.
Hahahaha.... What would one dress up as at a Mumsnet meetup.
Dancingbugbadge · 13/09/2021 14:16

Nazi

grapewine · 13/09/2021 14:16

@Bananapuppy

I know it’s not what it’s meant to be, but a nazi zombie.
Yeah, that's what I see too.
pointythings · 13/09/2021 14:17

Nazi zombie. With great taste in coats.

slavetothekittens · 13/09/2021 14:17

A steampunk M Bison from Streetfighter.

BronwenFrideswide · 13/09/2021 14:18

Some kind of high ranking army person from a previous era and probably Russian due to the fringy bits on the shoulder of the coat, but I haven't a clue what the mask and tube thing is all about.

There are Nazi vibes though and frankly what is the point of a costume if no-one knows what the hell it is meant to be.

Joystir59 · 13/09/2021 14:19

Yeah, I see the Nazi thing now.

astoundedgoat · 13/09/2021 14:19

Hahahaha.... What would one dress up as at a Mumsnet meetup.

To show venerability and "I've been here longest" vibes, the Mumsnet scarf (oversized leopardprint cotton, from 2009-ish), teamed with maybe those Hush harem pants and a Mulberry bag?

PuppyMonkey · 13/09/2021 14:19

@Mariell

Warhammer.

A Death Korps Commissar-General and his Ensign. A Death Korps Commissar is a Commissar of the Imperial Guard who serves as a political officer in the regiments of the Death Korps of Krieg that hail from the devastated, post-apocalytic Death World of Krieg in the Segmentum Tempestus.

If the costume is anything like that he would look fantastic.

Of course, no one who plays Warhammer will have a clue who he is meant to be!

This has made me Grin
piperatthegates · 13/09/2021 14:20

My first thought was highwayman as well

daisyjgrey · 13/09/2021 14:20

Without the mask and hat you could get away with something piratey, but at the minute it's quite Nazi reminiscent...

Mariell · 13/09/2021 14:22

@ineedsun

I’m only here fir the big reveal
I posted what it was meant to be earlier! It’s a warhammer costume!
backtoschoolagainagain · 13/09/2021 14:23

Mariell wins! Gin for you.

Runner up prizes Wine to BIoodyStupidJohnson, MyOtherProfile, raspberrymuffin, NotQuiteUsual and LukeEvansWife.

It is indeed a Warhammer costume.

For the uninitiated, Warhammer are small figues you paint, create an army of and then battle your friends with. It was started 40 years ago and there are lots of different armies (e.g. see pics). They don't all look like Nazis!

It's for geeks Grin and DS loves it.

DS is nearly 13, he goes to a comic conference every year and puts a lot of effort into his costume.

He really wants to go as someone from the particular army in the OP, but it just screams Nazi to me! I wanted to know if it was just me.

I'm not wrong, it does look like a Nazi doesn't it.

Lots of people at the event will know Warhammer but not all of them.

Nazi zombie.

Plumtree391 · 13/09/2021 14:23

A pirate or a highwayman?

JingsMahBucket · 13/09/2021 14:23
The red lapels are Nazi though - commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WW2_Wehrmacht_German_Army_General_Pellengahr_uniform_Norway_1940_Officer_visor_cap_Collar_tabs_Red_lapels_on_greatcoat_Armed_Forces_Museum_(Forsvarsmuseet)_Oslo_2020-02-25_2824.jpg
Red lapels were very common in lots of military uniforms other than WW II Germany.

I really think people are just jumping on the idea of Nazi because others suggested it. This looks more 1800s to me rather than early to mid 1900s.

crochetmonkey74 · 13/09/2021 14:24

Definitely a nazi - coat is same and eagle motif on hat-

redbigbananafeet · 13/09/2021 14:25

A nazi

backtoschoolagainagain · 13/09/2021 14:25

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

What is the theme? At first glance the costume is slightly piratey, but theres a weird mask thing going on. Not sure what the mask is.
The theme is basically "geek world"!

But it's basically characters from comics, geeky films or gaming.

@LST

A stormtrooper that decided a career in piracy was for him.
Love this :)

JingsMahBucket · 13/09/2021 14:26

@backtoschoolagainagain that costume is fine for him and the convention. People will likely assume it’s from a “safe” character.

BlackberryMuncher · 13/09/2021 14:27

Interested to find out.

Naillig222 · 13/09/2021 14:27

My ds is into Sci-fi/fantasy stuff. I'd presume it was a character from one of his books.
