Tell me about something you've bought that you dont think you can live without now. Something that isn't essential to your everyday life, doesn't have to be luxury but just something that's made a difference to your life.

I recently got a small handheld vaccum as my main wasn't working so I got a cheap one till I could research on a good one anyway its really helped with back problems as I'm not having to lug it up the stairs.
Also I had a bit extra this month so wanted to get something practical to make life that little bit easier, any suggestions?

My aeropress and bodum keep cup, good quality hot coffee all day.

Lycanthropology · 05/09/2021 21:41

Foam ear plugs. Very cheap lifesavers.

I was always woken up several times a night by DHs snoring and going to the toilet and often couldn't get back to sleep if woken.
Now I sleep right through as often as not, I have much more sleep in the bank, feel healthier and more alert, and seem to have retrained myself into easier sleep.

I love my Anker charging mat so I can wirelessly charge my phone or wireless earphone case (also another game changer for me).

Slow cooker

Good slippers (moshulu)

GromblesofGrimbledon · 05/09/2021 21:42

Custom moulded earplugs.
My little fold up hairdryer (please never break!)
My slow cooker.

A second laundry basket.

MyPatronusIsACat · 05/09/2021 21:45

White noise/ambient sounds sleep pod.

Cuts EVERYTHING out. Can't hear a thing from neighbours or outside (neighbourhood sounds, and wildlife etc.) ALL blocked out. Absolutely amazing.

Also Alexa. Can't live without her now! Got the amazon music thing with 50 million songs, and I can play what I want when I want, and ask for ANY radio station, and it's there within 3 seconds.

ThatWardrobe · 05/09/2021 21:49

A three part laundry hamper. Ugly as anything but saves SO much sorting time.

A Proviz cycling jacket, I shine like a lighthouse at night and drivers can see my hand signals. It took me a couple of years to think the price was worth it, about £80, but I wouldn't be without it at night or in the winter now.

My phone (£19.95 in Argos - Nokia non-smartphone)

Steaming iron.

Electric toothbrush

Rechargeable radio

Covers for the Aga burners - they keep heat in

Where did you get the custom made ear plugs from ?

Musmerian · 05/09/2021 22:01

@Guineapigbridge

And L'Occitane shampoo
Which one?

A guitar for DS, £10 from a charity shop.

5 years later he’s prepping for Grade 4 on a much more expensive instrument, but the £10 one got him nicely started.

A duvet mattress topper. Sooooo comfy, you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud. We can’t use it in the summer though as it’s too hot.

Upwardtrajectory · 05/09/2021 22:02

Washable coverless duvet - no more changing duvet covers. I just wash it and hang it over the banister - dries in about 2 hours.

Ninkanink · 05/09/2021 22:04

Ohhh I like idea of the washable duvet! Is it patterned or coloured? Can it be washed in a normal size washing machine and on at least 40°?

Em4815 · 05/09/2021 22:04

Placemarking! Some of these sound amazing 🙂

Ninkanink · 05/09/2021 22:05

I mean I know duvets are washable anyway but it’s always a bit of a faff. And I’d like for my daughters to be able to just pop them in the washing machine and not to have to bother with covers...

AmelieLovesAutumn · 05/09/2021 22:05

A second 3m lightening cable charger.

That theory in general actually. Having enough of something used regularly, whether it's the charger or the right size/type of fitted sheets/sharp knives.

Actually that reminds me...

'Any Sharp' knife sharpener on Amazon. About £10 and life changing!!!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 05/09/2021 22:06

Stainless steel cafetiere as well. It goes everywhere with us, no more disgusting instant coffee in hotel bedrooms.

IKEA fitted sheets. Nearly as smooth as Egyptian cotton, and much more convenient.

Joseph Joseph chef's knife. Does everything, razor sharp.

Sagegreenvelvet · 05/09/2021 22:06

Jesus @Blueleah well now I’m worrying about it Confused
Do you have links to anything I can read about that? I’ve used mine daily for about 5 years…

TheWayTheLightFalls · 05/09/2021 22:07

A Contigo travel mug. Keeps things hot/cold for hours, never leaks, saves me buying ££££ drinks out.

Really long - like 3m - iPhone charging cables from Amazon. Bought for when I was stuck under a baby feeding, still great.

USB plug sockets. Fucking brilliant, never go short of charging points again.

Covetthee · 05/09/2021 22:10

My nespresso coffee machine and milk frother

wireless headphones

MerylSqueak · 05/09/2021 22:10

A little extra trolley to go in the kitchen. Just a bit more space!

Timeisavirtue · 05/09/2021 22:11

I brought a swing garden seat in the winter which was on sale for £70, best thing I’ve invested in... DS is autistic and spends a majority of his free time stuck to his iPad. Since I’ve got the seat he’s been out every night, put the iPad down and just swings.... we have a pool which has a fountain so he loves the sound. I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal, but for him to do something without having a meltdown or it being on his terms is very unusual...

LondonMummer · 05/09/2021 22:12

For less than £10 I bought a chicken roasting stand from Amazon. I have used it every week for the last few years - cooks chickens in less time, crispy skin all over, fat/juices for gravy in the bottom. Game. Changer.
