Tell me about something you've bought that you dont think you can live without now. Something that isn't essential to your everyday life, doesn't have to be luxury but just something that's made a difference to your life.

I recently got a small handheld vaccum as my main wasn't working so I got a cheap one till I could research on a good one anyway its really helped with back problems as I'm not having to lug it up the stairs.
Also I had a bit extra this month so wanted to get something practical to make life that little bit easier, any suggestions?

@Kiduknot

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid Sun Cream SPF50 50ml

So light for the face. Don’t even need to wash hands after using it, like you do with other sun tan lotions. I sometimes use it on arms too as a little goes a long way

You know you need to apply 1.25ml to the face to get the spf coverage stated - a little should not be going a long way

@Mrstwiddle

Industrial ear mufflers, like the kind workmen wear. About £10 and I cannot be out them, I am sensitive to noise, so if you’re not, probably less useful :)
For future reference, they're called Ear Defenders :)

@AdaColeman

An extra kettle to have upstairs with some tea making stuff, so I can have a hot drink through the night or early morning, without trekking downstairs.

An extra vacuum cleaner upstairs, no more risking life & limb carting one up & down.

What do you do about milk??
PumpkinsGalore · 13/09/2021 02:26

@Inextremis

My halogen oven. I bought it when the thermostat on the main oven went on the blink - but now I use it all the time because it's so convenient and cheap to run. I cook everything in it, roast potatoes, whole chicken, quiches, cakes - it's brilliant. The only slight issue is that I had to buy round roasting pans to fit into it - and it's just too small to fit a shoulder joint of lamb in - not wide enough. Other than those small invonveniences, I can't fault it. It was only around the €50 mark, too :)
We also all swear by our Halogen ovens in my family! I don't use my regular oven now, except for big cakes or Yorkshire Puddings and that's only due to being unable to find round trays for small yorkshires!

Halogens cook so much quicker don't they?!

@PumpkinsGalore
I drink Earl Grey or Oolong tea without milk. Occasionally I have some instant hot chocolate sachets that don’t require milk.

Alexa. I feel like a bit of a loser saying that, but I love the shopping list thing and playing music/podcasts/radio on it. The kids adore it.

Refectocil eyebrow/eyelash tint. Saves going to the beautician and means I actually keep up with it, as I would often not have time for beautician appointments and then not bother plucking either.

Essie gel couture polish. Similar to the above. Nails still not perfect but a lot better.

My elderly mother is mesmerized by her Alexa Grin

Airshokz bone conducting headphones for running and for videocalls.
There's something about 'bone conducting' that just doesn't sit right with me.....
TheNatureOfTheCatastrophe · 13/09/2021 11:34

I'm tempted by bone conducting headphones for running because I can't use earbuds. Are they OK for podcasts as well as music?

ImThatCow · 13/09/2021 12:47

I got them for my husband TheNatureOfTheCatastrophe.

He loves them for running and has used them to listen to the football.

ImThatCow · 13/09/2021 12:47

Posted too soon, I assume they would be OK for podcasts if he can listen to commentary?

TheNatureOfTheCatastrophe · 13/09/2021 12:55

Thanks. I'm really tempted.

Used this today, & I remembered this thread. I was thrilled when I saw it at the garden centre & bought it on the spot. The pole extends & the secateurs go on the end & you close them by pulling the cord. I think I paid £80, but it's worth it in not going up ladders or paying someone else to cut high stuff out - plus, it's fun to use! Just be careful turning round or pivoting the thing, otherwise you'll smash a window or partake in a slapstick routine.

Thank you for that, sounds really useful!

Ourlady · 14/09/2021 08:18

Spear and Jackson do a branch trimmer exactly the same as above. They're about £25 in Argos and are bloody fantastic. Cut like a hot knife through butter.

Heated clothes airer… a game changer!

SaritaBella · 14/09/2021 10:48

Which one?
Could somebody recommend one please?Confused

SaritaBella · 14/09/2021 10:48

I mean heated clothes dryer.

Farfalle88 · 14/09/2021 11:06

I just be doing something wrong with mine. It just doesn’t dry the clothes . I’ve had mine in all night and evening. The clothes are still very damp.

billy1966 · 14/09/2021 14:34

@PinkFootstool

Could you put a link up for that mask as I can't locate it?

Thank you

PinkFootstool · 14/09/2021 14:37

Hi @billy1966 sorry, I think a few people have asked and I've not been back!

You need a sheet or duvet cover over the dryer to keep the heat in.

Only on page 3 and have bought several things!
Expensive thread.

We have had a Tens machine for well over a decade.

Game changer for pain anywhere.

My friend called in one evening and mentioned her neck was sore and she was so looking forward to her weekly treat of a £50 massage.

I put it on her neck and she couldn't believe how good it was.

They are incredible for a hangover headache.
Migraine.

Husband uses it for his mild arthritis in his hip that can be sore as he is so active.

Lower back pain.

You name it, they are fantastic.

Ours was £70 about 12 years ago.

Row1n · 14/09/2021 23:03

@Ourlady could you post a picture/link of that branch trimmer please as I really need something like that!

hilariousnamehere · 15/09/2021 00:10

This is a dangerous thread Grin

Top of my list is my cats, £20 each from a rescue 8 years ago and the source of so much love and joy.

Related to the cats, a £10 cardboard chaise longue for them from pets at home - they love it for scratching and I can't stop laughing at them draped over a tiny sofa...

Lakeland heated airer, mine is ten years old but going strong - £80ish?

Air fryer - mine was given to me but I think they're about the £100 mark - and I use it almost daily.

Decent insulated mug - mine keeps hot chocolate warm for an entire boating trip and there's nothing lovelier than sitting on the river sipping hot chocolate :)

And a small mechanical keyboard and separate number keypad for my main pc - such tiny things but makes so much difference to my comfort while at my desk.
