Tell me about something you've bought that you dont think you can live without now. Something that isn't essential to your everyday life, doesn't have to be luxury but just something that's made a difference to your life.

I recently got a small handheld vaccum as my main wasn't working so I got a cheap one till I could research on a good one anyway its really helped with back problems as I'm not having to lug it up the stairs.
Also I had a bit extra this month so wanted to get something practical to make life that little bit easier, any suggestions?

Joseph Joseph microwave rice cooker

I cook rice and quinoa properly now, without an overflowing pot or sticky rice muck everywhere.

And L'Occitane shampoo

AdaColeman · 05/09/2021 20:39

An extra kettle to have upstairs with some tea making stuff, so I can have a hot drink through the night or early morning, without trekking downstairs.

An extra vacuum cleaner upstairs, no more risking life & limb carting one up & down.

My tens machine. Not a magic cure all for my disabilities, but can take the edge off the pain.

Mariell · 05/09/2021 20:42

Flawless trimmer. I like all hair removed down below and I use it for touch ups and it means I have to shave with a razor less often.

Spotify subscription. I resisted it for ages on the grounds that the freebie was fine, but the kids wore me down. It's fantastic. I love it Also a Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen, so I can listen to music while chopping vegetables!

My epilator. Cost about £80 but does my legs and my tache.

Amazon Prime and Netflix - I've seen so many wonderful obscure films that I otherwise would never have stumbled across.

Leather, fur lined Converse. Waterproof, warm, and will do their fourth winter this year, despite being worn every day.
Braun multi blender. Gets used almost daily.
High thread count bedding and down duvets. Over £100 spent all in, but individually under, and we sleep so much better.
Electronic lighter. No more flames or getting burned on a hot lighter while trying to get inside a candle jar. Absolutely revolutionary and I have MN to thank for the tip Grin.
Kindle unlimited subscription. I use it for books and magazines.

Oooo so many things!

Udemy python data science course. Didn't give me a new job (though that was also possible) but let me push the job I have in more interesting directions. About £12 with the new signup offer.

Bluetooth audio running headband- much more comfy than earbuds or headphones.

A vintage shopping bike for about £45 - this sort of thing www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193997755988 . Totally practical for local journeys and really easy to store.

Car phone mount and a Bluetooth to FM thingy so I can use the phone satnav in my prehistoric car

A bluetooth attachment for an old-style connector iphone docking station, so now it's a bluetooth speaker

A few pairs of really good scissors!

Halfaham · 05/09/2021 20:47

Waffle maker. I can make gluten free low carb cakes!

MistyMorns · 05/09/2021 20:51

The JBL Flip waterproof speaker with Bluetooth. It’s a wonderful gadget and the sound quality is superb.

@CovidCorvid

I think it's this one:

I don’t know if they sell these in UK, but Bissell makes a Little Green Machine. It’s a small carpet spot cleaner. I have three cats, one prone to nausea. It has saved my sanity. external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftse1.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOIP.i0HQODEGnk4mz8adFNoAJQHaHa%26pid%3DApi&f=1

Second the lakeland heated dryer. It's a god send in winter.

Antinerak · 05/09/2021 21:20

As I read the thread title I thought about my little handheld vaccuum too! £25 on Amazon perfect for little things like small rugs and dusty bookshelves.

Bluetooth earphones- (Enacfire brand if anyone cares) they're waterproof and the battery lasts for days. They barely leave my ears.

Decent pyjamas and bedding too, bought at the beginning of 'rona.

Blueleah · 05/09/2021 21:21

Amazon Echo. It’s massively useful to just be able to yell “turn the tv on and play Peppa Pig on Netflix”, “add eggs to the shopping list”, “play kids music”, or “turn the heating to 22”.

Neoprene wellies are also life changing. Kids are about £50, adults are more expensive but worth keeping an eye out for in the sale. They actually keep your feet warm, unlike rubber boots.

DeedledeDee · 05/09/2021 21:21

My Remoska oven. I've got a little one and it's used all the time
You can make cakes in it as well as heat up ready meals.
Make stews, curries, hotpot, chicken pieces, pork chops , oven chips as well as pies etc.
I've given one to each of my kids as housewarming presents too

BirdyBee · 05/09/2021 21:26

My heated throw, its so lovely in the colder months, my 3 year old loves snuggling under it as well with me! Cost about £60.

RubyGoat · 05/09/2021 21:26

Panda mini rice cooker. I'm intolerant to a number of foods including wheat, & have chronic pain. I often struggle to stand up to cook and/or forget timings or fall asleep. It's great to be able to set it & have dinner ready whenever I am (I can do a full meal in it - rice, quinoa, various lentils etc, plus various veg). It was about £82 I think.
Also my insulated mug & water bottle. I got all 3 for about £100. Bottle & mug from TK Maxx. If I'm out, or stuck in bed, they're so useful, they keep drinks properly hot/cool for at least 3-4 hours. DH has the same brand mug & bottle now too.

Yep, Bissel spot cleaner 👍

MasterOfOne · 05/09/2021 21:31

A lot of the suggestions have already been made, but for me I couldn't live without my electric throw (used daily) my mini rice cooker ( perfect rice every time), my wireless headphones and bluetooth sleep mask (chronic insomnia) oh and weighted blanket.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2021 21:32

Murphy Richards compact soup maker. I eat more vegetables this way and it’s so tasty. John Lewis had them for £35 in January.

Inextremis · 05/09/2021 21:36

My halogen oven. I bought it when the thermostat on the main oven went on the blink - but now I use it all the time because it's so convenient and cheap to run. I cook everything in it, roast potatoes, whole chicken, quiches, cakes - it's brilliant. The only slight issue is that I had to buy round roasting pans to fit into it - and it's just too small to fit a shoulder joint of lamb in - not wide enough. Other than those small invonveniences, I can't fault it. It was only around the €50 mark, too :)

BoredZelda · 05/09/2021 21:37

Shiatzu massager.

Blueleah · 05/09/2021 21:38

All of these people with heated throws - do you not worry that electric current induces magnetism so you’re basically sitting under a big magnet? Several studies have raised questions about whether electric blankets can increase the risk of cancer.
