@tunnocksreturns2019 I like that one, I’ve just spent 10 minutes trying to work out where staff quarters would be.

FAQs · 05/09/2021 11:19

After watching BBC Ghosts they no longer bother me, id quite like a few ghosts.

ShowOfHands · 05/09/2021 11:27

That really made me wince. What my Grandma would style as all fur coat and no knickers. Beautiful period house decorated by people with little eye for it. It's tacky, heavily influenced by shit magazines and lacks any finesse. I could have put good money on them having a hot tub and rattan loungers in their dull as fuck garden.

When the Jeff is the grey thing going to end? Grey with a bit of velour and a blush pink accent is NOT classy. It's overdone, cold and looks cheap. What a ruddy shame.

(this is mostly tic but I stand by my conviction that good houses are often wasted on people with money)

Show us your lovely tasteful house please!
TheWeatherWitch · 05/09/2021 12:00

Just a smidge more expensive than that ex council house in London that someone posted the other day. 1.7 million for a three bed terrace! 😵‍💫

Yes, this is a stunning house.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 05/09/2021 12:08

It's spectacular, but I'm a cosy cottage shabby chic person so it wouldn't be for me.

ShowOfHands · 05/09/2021 12:11

@Naptimenow is it just me who you want to show pictures of my house or everybody who doesn't like the house linked?

And I at no point claimed to have a lovely tasteful house. I have a house having serious work done to it if you'd like photos of acro poles and brick dust?

As I said, I was mostly being tongue in cheek. Plenty of people pointed out that this is a period house, with the decor not in keeping, sanitised and money not spent well. I'm certain the owners like it which is all that matters. I don't. Many people will. Wonderful that we're all different isn't it?

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/09/2021 12:17

It's lovely. I'm not keen on the hot tub thing either and I'd add more colour and patterns but overall it's nice to see something they haven't ripped the soul out of and made it look like thousands of other houses.

Tooembarrassingtomention · 05/09/2021 12:17

@Bythemillpond

Bought it for under £1million in 2017. Spent money on weird light fittings and knocked down some internal walls and painted all the wood white

It is the upgrading you can’t directly see costs the money.
Rewiring replumbing, little things like electric sockets multiplied by 100 etc start to become significant.
Things like windows needing painting and repairing, skimming rooms after rewiring multiplied by number of walls all cost

It isn’t about choosing colour schemes and doing a bit of painting, hanging a few light fittings and arranging furniture it is the stuff you can’t see that is where the costs lie and no one is going to want to do all that work and not get a return on their investment of time

Doesn’t look like it has had any of that though
tunnocksreturns2019 · 05/09/2021 12:17

@ElizabethTudor

The castle actually says in the brochure “the principle part of Devizes Castle” now for £2.6m and a Grade 1 building, I’d want the whole bloody lot, thanks.
Oh my! Right, that’s it - I’m withdrawing my offer. I want all of it or I’m staying right here in my ex council semi!
GeorgieFlame · 05/09/2021 12:20

So if I mow a big circle in my lawn with a H inside it, I will have a Heli-pad? Yay. I just need a helicopter now Grin

Shirleyphallus · 05/09/2021 12:42

I love these threads where you know it’s people in totally average 3 bed semis with a beige 3 piece suite from DFS saying they’d never possibly live in a mansion like this because of the grey carpets Wink

Ninkanink · 05/09/2021 12:44

I’d live in it but it sure as hell wouldn’t be decorated like that...

Me too! 😂 Anyone with more money than me is nouveau and tacky, I hate the bastards!
ElizabethTudor · 05/09/2021 12:58

@tunnocksreturns2019 🤣🤣
I’d just like to know what part of the castle £2.6m buys me!

ShowOfHands · 05/09/2021 13:02

Oh I'd live in it in a heartbeat. I just wouldn't paint it grey and have a hot tub. When I bought a 3 bed semi, I judged the decor in that too. Mint green paint on textured wallpaper and a peach corner bath anybody?

But I don't have any money for big houses. Or a sofa from DFS either btw.

Jesus - you do know I can't compel you to do anything!😂 You are the one who was wincing at someone else's taste in an incredibly sneery fashion, who cares if others said the same - own what you said.

takemetomars · 05/09/2021 13:42

@MrsEricBana

Yes! (Apart from the weird twin hot tub thingo)
Think the bigger one is a lap pool
goose1964 · 05/09/2021 13:52

It's very nice, this would be my ideal house www.knightfrank.co.uk/properties/residential/for-sale/pennington-road-tunbridge-wells-kent-tn4/TNW012073605

itsgettingwierd · 05/09/2021 13:53

It's a very well sized house as it's over 4 floors. I'm not sure what the basement rooms would be like or even used for - with random kitchen in it!

Would need to add a bathroom to floor 2. But I imagine it would make a great master suite if you did it right.

Land is ok outside and reflects the price compared to size of property.

I'd have to have some massive great sprawling comfy sofas and cuddle chairs rather than those hard looking chaise langue things everywhere!

Ariela · 05/09/2021 13:58

I think that's a hot tub and an endless swimming pool isn't it?
Maireas · 05/09/2021 14:02

I couldn't live with all that miserable grey.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 05/09/2021 14:06

Nope, very passe furnishings, in grey. And even more naff outside. Could be lovely though.

Maireas · 05/09/2021 14:07

@felulageller

They've taken a good house and made it grey bland and boring

The decor will date quickly.

What a waste of potential.

You're right. It could be amazing!
WhatIsThisPlease · 05/09/2021 14:12

So. Much. Grey 🥱🥱
