I'm going to have to win the lottery 😍

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 05/09/2021 06:45

It's nice from the outside, but for me the inside feels dull and cold. I'm a cosy person though and probably a bit old fashioned, I also don't like huge open rooms as I feel comfier/cosier/safer sitting by a wall. Good job really as I don't have a 2 million budget anyway!l

NotMaryWhitehouse · 05/09/2021 06:52

And pretty tastefully decorated which this places so often aren't! Those doors in the hallway.......... 😍

PurpleOkapi · 05/09/2021 07:18

It's beautiful, but to me, it just doesn't mesh. The outside is historic, and looks like a castle. The inside looks completely modern. You can still see some period details in the ceiling, and I guess it's good that they kept them, but IMHO they don't work with the modern decor.

NO! Definitely haunted!

Howareyouflower · 05/09/2021 07:24

@Councilworker

Bought it for under £1million in 2017. Spent money on weird light fittings and knocked down some internal walls and painted all the wood white. www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-59074313.html

Now on the market at double the price they paid. There's definitely not been that much of an increase in the market here and definitely not £1million in "improvements"

I preferred it how it was then!
Ifailed · 05/09/2021 07:26

Out of interest, this is what £1.65 million will get you on Rosendale Rd, in SE London: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/112574327

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 05/09/2021 07:40

They won’t be doing much outdoor dining in Rossemdale! I grew up near there and we used to have about 2 warm days a year.

Interior not to my taste, but I can see they’ve put a lot of effort into it.

Hadenoughcrap2 · 05/09/2021 07:46

Oh, I much prefer the 'before' photos. The bones of the house are lovely, but I prefer it when they're kept in period style, rather than just grey.

Bythemillpond · 05/09/2021 08:06

Tbh this is the first time I have seen one of these threads that has a house that didn’t scream money pit at me.

I actually love the decor
If they could move the place 200 miles south and I had the money I would definitely look at it.
Normally I don’t like these type of houses as people have either tried to recreate a Victorian boudoir in every room or nothing has been done in years and I just see mess, hassle, builders and ££££££££s going down the drain

RampantIvy · 05/09/2021 08:08

I prefer the new decor. Light and airy is my preference, not dark and claustrophobic cosy.

Antsinyourpanta · 05/09/2021 08:11

Confused Surely by its sheer size it would be!

Ooohhhhhhhhhhh that's pretty.

Naptimenow · 05/09/2021 08:19

Would make a lovely boutique hotel. Nice decor, light and airy.

Catawaul · 05/09/2021 08:20

Anyone know what the wall colour is in the bedroom with the yellow sofa? A kind of beige, I really like it.

Bythemillpond · 05/09/2021 08:21

It is the upgrading you can’t directly see costs the money.
Rewiring replumbing, little things like electric sockets multiplied by 100 etc start to become significant.
Things like windows needing painting and repairing, skimming rooms after rewiring multiplied by number of walls all cost

It isn’t about choosing colour schemes and doing a bit of painting, hanging a few light fittings and arranging furniture it is the stuff you can’t see that is where the costs lie and no one is going to want to do all that work and not get a return on their investment of time

DREAM776 · 05/09/2021 08:22

Well done to the person that found the before pictures. I had a lovely time comparing them.

It's a bit too minimalist for me, it needs more period furniture, but on the whole I feel it's improved.
The carpets would be a problem for me though, I hate marking carpets. I'm not sure about the staircase, I think they should have at least left the handrail wood. I don't think that you can see enough to know if it worked.
The grey would also need to be repainted, cold northern weather and grey= depressing.

The neighbours...far too many, and they would all be looking in and from the terrace you would see into their gardens.

I know that area well. Rosendale Road isn’t even a particularly nice area. Too far from the main Dulwich bit and veering a bit close to West Norwood.

IndiaDreaming · 05/09/2021 08:27

That's about 5 miles from where I live!

Lovely - odd hot tub thing though, it should be a pool.

felulageller · 05/09/2021 08:32

They've taken a good house and made it grey bland and boring

The decor will date quickly.

What a waste of potential.

chaosrabbitland · 05/09/2021 09:52

@PrincessNutella

I was thinking the house was pretty good but i am gonna have to pony up the extra half mil for the castle now that I saw it.
that castle is the dogs nuts !! so much more my style , it hasnt been ruined by making it all modern inside , once i win the euro millions i will be able to afford it
Travielkapelka · 05/09/2021 10:06

Apart from the bizarre hot tub thing I love it. I’m not mad on some of the furniture and it’s a bit like a hotel but overall o think it’s absolutely stunning

Travielkapelka · 05/09/2021 10:17

I have never heard of Rossendale. What’s it is like? I have had a look at right move and there are lots of really done up houses for sale for what to me looks like absolutely bargain prices,

Fairlyurgentdecision · 05/09/2021 10:20

I love how people think about the cleaning issue, as if you wouldn't have a cleaner if you could afford a £2 million house!

ElizabethTudor · 05/09/2021 10:30

The castle actually says in the brochure “the principle part of Devizes Castle” now for £2.6m and a Grade 1 building, I’d want the whole bloody lot, thanks.
