When is Crook Hall expected to reopen? Quite excited to have a NT property almost on the door step 😂

Thank you both.
Really excited about Crook Hall too.

AlviarinAesSedai · 23/04/2022 16:17

Hopefully Crook Hall will be soon. Can’t see them having much updating to do.
Been to Durham today was busy. But they need to get a move on building the bus station. North Road is horrible, too many undesirables. And no where for the bus passengers to wait.
I was on Park and Ride bus and too many people waiting for bus. No where to sit or stand and hardly any room for people to walk past.
Was looking on Rightmove and gosh there aren’t many houses for sale. The prices for nice houses are definitely increasing.
On a happier note the weather is gorgeous. DH is complaining his allotment needs rain.

Someaddedsugar · 23/04/2022 16:35

@AlviarinAesSedai totally agree about North Road. I'm not sure if there's been a change in the bus timetable recently, but on a morning it's just chaos as the buses end up queuing for a slot and blocking the roundabout. It can't be pleasant for passengers, the shops that have their doors open and shoppers either with the fumes.

OP posts:
AlviarinAesSedai · 28/04/2022 17:35

Agree, the shops need a reduction in rates or something, definitely wouldn’t be happy if paying the Durham Bid levy.
They don’t even look like they started yet(bus station). North road also seems really narrow, the road I mean.

On the radio today they were talking about Co Durham having the worst care home covid deaths in the whole country. Somebody needs to be held accountable. I had a little cry while listening to it, I’m pathetic I know.

Someaddedsugar · 03/05/2022 10:23

I spotted they'd put traffic lights at Newton Hall for the new shops which were causing a bit of a headache last week as the traffic was backing up a long way!

Wow! That H crescent house went for 300k, in the end!

AlviarinAesSedai · 05/05/2022 14:52

No cheap houses in north east anymore.Unless you want to live somewhere a bit rough.
Wont be long before units are open near Arnison.
Shame no local elections near me. Feel very left out😂

Someaddedsugar · 05/05/2022 18:54

I know @PickAChew! It's crazy!!

I was nosying on Zoopla at the sold prices last week. The one next to the Garden House also went for £295k I think - it was on for £280k and that was asking price!

We've been totally priced out of Durham based on the sold prices.

The estate next to St Leonard's has houses going for crazy prices too! Some are over £400k and they need so much work doing.

I felt left out too @AlviarinAesSedai - I've got family in areas that are voting today and I feel like we've missed our turn 😂.

Field house lane and Whitesmocks were too expensive for us when we were buying, 5 years ago. Our budget was up to 250, could stretch to 285, though it was hard to persuade dh to look at anything over 209, coming from Peterlee 🤣

The ones that really have bumped up in price are those tiny ones at merryoaks. They're no bigger than our old house and there was a job lot of them up for 140-160, at the time. They're up for 50% more than that, now, and just as scruffy.

PickAChew · 06/05/2022 07:34

Over 200

PickAChew · 06/05/2022 07:35

Hopefully for you, interest rates will calm the housing market down.

Someaddedsugar · 06/05/2022 07:36

I think one of those has just gone online Pick - the smaller semi? I couldn't believe the price. And I appreciate it's Durham but it's still quite a way out and the price compared to Langley Moor or Neville's Cross on that site of the traffic lights doesn't make any sense - there was a big terrace on the hill up for sale (granted it was last year so probably more reasonable) that was under £200k with loads more space.

OP posts:
PickAChew · 06/05/2022 09:49

Yes, 225, terrible decor and cluttered and it's sold!

Someaddedsugar · 06/05/2022 18:58

It's sold already?! The single house I had a half hearted eye on has gone under offer today. Although as DP has just said he knows I'd have hated it once I moved in. Clearly he knows me well! Curious to see what they've actually paid for it in the end as we did put an offer in at what point but it was £20k under the £280k the seller wanted so was instantly declined. I wonder if these things are just meant to happen sometimes.

Anyone excited about the Durham 2025 city of culture, I hope we win. Bet they didn’t take the people up North Road. Or even Silver Street.
They also need to get a move on building the Durham bus station, it might be finished by 2025 if we are lucky.
Hope your house hunting is going well Someaddedsugar.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 11/05/2022 15:10

Ning! I'm Disgrace and I live near Druridge Bay. Just found the thread.

AlviarinAesSedai · 11/05/2022 16:12

Welcome @DisgraceToTheYChromosome

Someaddedsugar · 11/05/2022 17:36

@DisgraceToTheYChromosome welcome!

@AlviarinAesSedai I've not even seen anyone working on the bus station site! House hunting has stalled as everything is so expensive. There's a house up for sale on George Street. We went to view it last year at £225 - it's on the market again for £360! It's down as a student property so you'd end up a landlord too.

OP posts:
AlviarinAesSedai · 11/05/2022 20:21

That’s a shocking increase Someaddedsugar.
You go nearly every day when you take your DS to nursery. I thought it was because I only go into Durham once a week or so, and was missing the action
But as the frames are up near Arnison last time I went that way. Just puts the bus station to shame. I’m embarrassed for the council.

myrtleWilson · 12/05/2022 15:34

The three bedroomed gatehouse at crossgate moor is on with Urban Base for £795k - gobsmacked I was!

Someaddedsugar · 12/05/2022 20:33

It's crazy isn't it with the pricing! I wonder when it will stop!

We need to start saying the North East is an awful place to live 😉.
