That is a very busy road, but pedestrians are always an after thought.
It’s going to be dreadful trying to cross the entrance when it’s completed. No car driver is going to give way.

gingercat02 · 06/04/2022 10:26

Did any of you Durham lasses bump in to Prince Charles and the Queen of Spain in Bishop yesterday?

The lambs are out where I live, I love seeing them. Running and jumping about, really feels like spring is on its way.
Did see on the news about Prince Charles.
Hope everyone has a lovely Easter and lots of chocolate eggs, if allowed. Enjoy the holidays and family time and church.

Someaddedsugar · 12/04/2022 19:56

It's so lovely seeing the lambs isn't it.

We were at broom house farm at the weekend and they have a little Easter trail for anyone with younger children.

I intend to eat a lot of chocolate this weekend 😂. Hope you all have a lovely Easter weekend. DP has told me it's meant to warmer at the weekend so hopefully it'll be a sunny one for everyone!

Broom house farm was heaving today. Such a nice day, and weather very nice.
I ate my Easter egg today Easter Blush. Very nice it was too.

AlviarinAesSedai · 17/04/2022 18:52

Anyone go to the lambing event at Broom House farm today. We were busy, so couldn’t go. But will definitely go next year.
The weather has been go nice, sunny and not too windy.

Someaddedsugar · 20/04/2022 07:16

We didn't go @AlviarinAesSedai as we were at Gibside but I wish we'd been able to go.

It looks like they're having a nightmare at the moment up there with the cafe poor things. Not the best time when the weather's so nice and people will be heading up there.

We've found out yesterday that we got DS' second choice primary place (first one is always oversubscribed so was unlikely based on distance). Feeling the pressure to find a house closer to Durham now - if anyone knows anyone looking to sell a three bed house point them my way 😂. Hopefully something will come along with a more realistic price as the prices at the moment are mind blowing. There's a house on Dryburn road for sale at the moment for £445k - this time last year they were struggling to get £305k on the same road!! Madness.

So pleased the weather's making a change. It's made such a difference for our neighbours who can sit in their garden now as they can't walk far.

Someaddedsugar that’s brilliant news about DS and school place. It is a nervous time.
Good luck with house hunting. PickAChew is normally very good a house hunting. Would it better to sell yours and rent and be a cash buyer?
Love Gibside, but I have to visit Beamish soon as they have finished lots in the 50’s village.

Someaddedsugar · 20/04/2022 18:52

No one tells you how nerve wracking being a parent can before you have children or even when you're pregnant 😂.

Renting might be an option @AlviarinAesSedai. There's one on the market at the moment that's on the possible list. We did put an offer in a few months ago but it was rejected. However since then it's been reduced and is still for sale. We're hoping to be chain free in a month so hopefully that'll be beneficial and the right thing will come along soon!

I really want to go to the 50s village. The chip shop is based on the one my grandparents used to go to when they first came to England after the war!

OP posts:
AlviarinAesSedai · 20/04/2022 19:23

Someaddedsugar, my DM says that you never stop worrying. Then you worry about secondary school. I felt sick opening the email to that one.
The 50’s chip shop isn’t open every day so we will have to check before we go. My DF loves the Pit village because it really was his childhood. And the gardens/allotment looks just like just like his allotment now😂. Made do and mend is his first name.

AlviarinAesSedai · 20/04/2022 19:25

The houses around that area look amazing. Definitely a forever home.

Someaddedsugar · 20/04/2022 19:30

@AlviarinAesSedai there should be some kind of warning about the worrying when you have a baby 😂. The primary school email was bad enough - I can't imagine what the secondary school one is like, especially after seeing the threads on here about offers!

Someone needs to write a book about all of this stuff 😂

Aww that's lovely about your DF. My DGF was very much of the make do and mend mindset, as is DFIL. It always makes me smile when he repairs something for the millionth time just to get a bit longer out of it.

The market is bonkers. The house next door went up for sale and had an offer immediately from the sibling of another neighbour who had been looking for ages. They themselves put the house on the market because they knew someone who was going to sell.

The other house next door is still for sale, mind. They've knocked 90k off that, now! It needs gutting.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/04/2022 22:09

Hello again.
i fell off and the you popped back up with the mn replatform

Someaddedsugar · 20/04/2022 22:18

It's just madness isn't it @PickAChew! Knocking £90k off a house is crazy!

Welcome back @lifelongfrugaleer - hope all is well with you? Smile

OP posts:
PickAChew · 20/04/2022 23:32

It was overpriced to start with @Someaddedsugar as I think they went with the zoopla estimate for our heavily extended house with no sales history of their own. They would have sold sooner, for a better price, if they hadn't seen the £££, though.

I'm really looking forward to the building work when they do sell

PickAChew · 20/04/2022 23:32

Emojis are broken!

Someaddedsugar · 21/04/2022 06:43

The new platform's causing some odd glitches!

I hope it isn't too bad for you when it does sell! And that they're nice neighbours.

I’m good thanks. Sorry to read about ddog
great news crook hall is being bought
sorry can’t see who is from bishop but the train to salt burn is easy and it’s lovely there

those road works are shocking
and that’s as far back as I read

PickAChew · 21/04/2022 10:53

I've just had an alert for a decently configured townhouse in Newton Hall. The only downside I can see, other than being a townhouse, is the postage stamp garden.

Someaddedsugar · 21/04/2022 11:06

I see what you mean about the garden! It's not too badly priced though compared to others. Will share with DP!

PickAChew · 21/04/2022 12:22

It's nice that there are two big bedrooms plus two reception rooms. Lots of flexibility possible, there. The top floor is full height, too.

xsquared · 21/04/2022 20:09

Does anyone know where you can cheap or even better, free parking is near the Freeman Quay in Durham? Tried to do a google search but the pages are out of date as there is no longer an open car park opposite by Penny Ferry Bridge.

Someaddedsugar · 21/04/2022 22:58

I'm sure on street parking is free from 2pm @xsquared

OP posts:
AlviarinAesSedai · 22/04/2022 16:44

There is still parking on Crook Hall side and it’s pretty cheap. And the car park is still there. Free in council car park after 2pm. Free on on street on Sundays.
