Great excitement in Stockton as The Globe finally opens its doors!!! Have seen many top bands and performers over the years!

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 15:04

Everyone is welcome. I’ve never been to Stockton or the railway town beginning with D unless, being on the train countsBlush

PickAChew · 06/09/2021 15:33

@MrsEWeatherwax

Yes chaos is the word. We were dodging people waiting for bus, getting on bus, getting off bus and the drivers. I feel so sorry for the shops, they should be receiving some compensation from Durham county council. And if I was shop owner I wouldn’t be paying for DurhamBid. What a waste of money that is. And most of the shops were shut, so I dread to think how bad is was earlier in the day. PickAChew you don’t seem to like Arriva. Is it better for you that the 21 bus goes not far from you. Where I live we only have GoNorth East.
It's not that I don't like them, it's that their buses are less well maintained and some of them really uncomfortable. I would have caught the angel, as it was in, but there was a huge queue for it and I would have been happy with any of the other buses passing the hospital (I don't mind a walk after the steep bit!) but they all left at once! Ended up on one of the jh coaches standing in on the 64, anyhow, so got bragging rights with ds1 :o

@lifelongfrugaleer

There’s a north east thread. Pls can I join? Born and raised north east and still living in railway town beginning with D
Feel free to join in!

I need to visit your town, some time this month. You have the most amazing fabric shop.

PickAChew · 06/09/2021 15:57

Feels like they've been renovating that place forever! Just looked at the video on the teesside live app and it looks amazing.
MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 16:03

Gosh Arriva is worse than GoNorthEast, you have my sympathies.
I complain about our buses all the time, mainly about the poor DD’s. Not turning up, driving past.
I’m too lazy to walk up that steep hill to St Leonard’s school. Once you are at top of hill it’s pretty flat after that.
Saw today that Superdry must be closing down, The Works was open in its new shop today, it like one shop opens and again closes.

Just found this thread! Can I join? Born and lived in the North East all my life. Medium sized town not far from Darlington

The more, the merrier. We've become a bit too Durham-centric, lately 😉
lifelongfrugaleer · 06/09/2021 17:32

Oh I like that super dry branch but it is always empty when I’m in

The fabric shop in the indoor market? Or was. Do you know she has moved

Yes - her back room of dress fabrics is wondrous! I only discovered her market stall when they had the fibre festival last February then everything went the way it went and I didn't get back down there for over a year.

It's well worth enduring the nutters on the number 7 bus for, though.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/09/2021 18:01

It’s a fabulous shop and she is lovely

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 19:19

Definitely too Durham-centric .I love hearing about other places in NorthEast.
There is a lovely fabric shop on Birtley high street. The owner is lovely and welcoming. They have sewing sessions too.
I’m going to google The Globe.

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 19:21

Someone on Facebook about Durham was saying Stockton has got the town centre right.

wonkylegs · 06/09/2021 19:29

Hi
I've just found you and I live in a village just outside Darlington. I can confirm the fabric shop is a gem.
Is anyone going to the Festival of Thrift at the end of the month in Kirkleatham?

PickAChew · 06/09/2021 19:51

Isn't the Birtley shop mostly a quilting shop, @mseweatherwax? We have a few of those around the city. My mum quilts but the thought of it gives me a headache.

PickAChew · 06/09/2021 19:54

Kirkleatham is a bit of a trek for me, @wonkylegs with no one in the family interested. It's got to be hard shiny things on wheels, for that lot.

Gatekeeper · 06/09/2021 19:54

eeee...where has this thread come from...number 5? Spenny born lass here

ThreeB · 06/09/2021 20:08

Waves to all the other Northern peeps.

Another one here who is just outside Darlington :-)

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 20:33

Yes is the quilting shop but some of fabric is lovely. The owner told me if I bring my sewing machine in I can do anything I like, so make a dress etc and she would help.
I went because I wanted to see a certain fabric by Riley Blake.
I want to make a dress or skirt. Either there or the shop at Nettlesworth. I’m just embarrassed to go on my ownBlush

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 20:36

We were in the Covid bit, was started when the North East was put in bloody tier 2.

NotMyDayJob · 06/09/2021 20:40

I keep losing these threads! Sadly I am in Durham but I did go to Stockton last week. I was pretty impressed by the town centre, although I'm from a fairly rough part of the UK (not the north east) so my benchmarks are low

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 20:41

One year I want to go to the Festival of thrift.
But no one will go with me.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/09/2021 20:43

Stockton town centre, really. Though TBF it’s a log while since I went into town. As I no longer Work there and the uniform shop
Is a couple of streets away

I didn’t realise the festival of thrift is back. I will look it up

Someaddedsugar · 07/09/2021 21:28

Just checking back in and waving to everyone joining us 😊

I think my DParents live in the same railway town as you @lifelongfrugaleer (assuming there aren’t many railway towns beginning with D!).

Definitely nice to hear more about the other areas of the north east!

@PickAChew are the JH coaches new? When I drop DS off I often see them now but can’t remember seeing them before. North Road is also lethal as a driver - to get to nursery (behind the bus station) you have to come off the little roundabout and essentially play a game of chance to see if you can get down North Road without a bus pulling out into the road without looking. It’s a joy on a morning!

I would also like to visit the Festival of Thrift - I don’t think I’ll get chance this year but if it’s on next year I definitely want to attend!

Hi all I'm in Gateshead I remember a few of the user names from the lockdown thread. I'm having surgery 2 weeks today. So crapping myself , trying to distract myself with mumsnet. So... In other news my niece started school today and I'm beyond proud. (I don't have my own!). Is everyone gearing up for back to school?
