I found an NE thread. Wanted to say hello! I'm in County Durham.

PickAChew · 13/05/2022 19:16

Hi, @MsMarvellous !@MsMarvellous@MsMarvellous you're in good company. And I may have beetlejuiced you, trying to edit a typo - your name just kept appearing 😅

MsMarvellous · 13/05/2022 19:35

I have that effect on people 🤣

AlviarinAesSedai · 13/05/2022 20:17

Welcome @MsMarvellous .
Was in Durham city this afternoon and saw the queue for the Passport office.
Then saw the geese and three gosling, so cute. And three swans. Lovely bit of nature.
They definitely need to remove the trees from the Wear. And rubbish.

MsMarvellous · 13/05/2022 20:22

Yeah. The river is full of stuff. We're out in weardale in the country but go to Durham occasionally to shop. Are lots of you Durham based?

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/05/2022 20:32

I’m further south than Durham in a town beginning with D

AlviarinAesSedai · 13/05/2022 20:33

I’m near Durham but a couple of miles away. Would love to live Weardale. The countryside is just stunning.

Someaddedsugar · 13/05/2022 20:39

Hello @MsMarvellous! Welcome to the thread 😊.

I'm trying to work out how to reply to a DM from one of you lovely lot - you'll know who you are but my profile won't let me reply since the update. Thank you for sending!!

Is it just me or are the paragraphs not working properly anymore?

I love Weardale too @AlviarinAesSedai - I've always thought Wolsingham would be a lovely place to live.

@lifelongfrugaleer we've had a look at a few houses where you are on Rightmove. Some beautiful houses!

MsMarvellous · 13/05/2022 20:48

@lifelongfrugaleer think I can guess that one

@Someaddedsugar we're not too far from Wolsingham. It's one of my local villages. A gorgeous spot.

Yes. The countryside round here is gorgeous, one of the reasons we moved here. The prices are just bonkers now though, if we hadn't moved when we did we'd have stood no chance.

MsMarvellous · 13/05/2022 20:48

And yes. Paragraphs are broken 😭

Someaddedsugar · 13/05/2022 20:50

My post looks so strange! @MsMarvellous I'm jealous - lovely walks, lovely villages and lovely houses! I love Barnard Castle too.

OP posts:
MsMarvellous · 13/05/2022 20:51

We're very very lucky!

PickAChew · 14/05/2022 00:19

Lots of things seem to be broken - me inuded! I'm in Durham City. Moved into town from East Durham area a few years back.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/05/2022 08:06

There are some lovely houses here . We finally moved after 14 months trying last October to a 30s semi, some of them are ££££ though
the new estate seems reasonable value but. Schools would be the issue for me. And I’m not a new build fan
my family live towards weardale

Someaddedsugar · 14/05/2022 08:53

Hope you're ok @PickAChew?

I've noticed that when someone quotes a previous post that it cuts off the end of their sentence for some reason.

@lifelongfrugaleer I was looking near the sixth form - for the same price as a 2 bed house in Durham you can get a 5 bed townhouse! It's madness!

OP posts:
Someaddedsugar · 14/05/2022 08:53

I do appreciate it's Durham obviously!

OP posts:
MsMarvellous · 14/05/2022 08:55

@PickAChew Durham is just lovely. Hope your broken bits are repairable!

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/05/2022 09:37

Oo it’s nice round there near the 6th form. Yes Durham is £££ more

PickAChew · 14/05/2022 11:28

Oh, I'm just either having a bad hayfever season or have a cold - or covid but not tested positive.

AlviarinAesSedai · 15/05/2022 09:27

Go North East have a open day at their Riverside Gateshead depot today. Looks a great day for anyone, especially children who love buses.
Hope everyone is enjoying the gorgeous weather. This is probably our summer 😂

PickAChew · 15/05/2022 17:29

Ds1 and I were at that open day! They had timed it to coincide with the metrocentre bus and coach show and there were free shuttles (though I do hope enough people chucked some coins in the buckets to cover fuel) running between the two.

AlviarinAesSedai · 15/05/2022 18:42

Sounds like was a good day. Hopefully enough people put some money in the bucket. Think is harder now, loads of people don’t carry cash.

AlviarinAesSedai · 18/05/2022 13:06

My hay fever is dreadful this year. At moment it must be the yellow rape. Because the fields around me are in full bloom.
Anyone who uses buses, seen the GoNorth East consultation about routes from 24 July. It’s shocking, one whole village is losing two buses, so won’t have any bus at all. No idea how the teenagers etc are to get to school.
Plus they are building a massive new housing estate. The village is Pelton Fell. It is disgraceful, I hope people are contacting their Councillors and MP.

Someaddedsugar · 18/05/2022 16:21

The open day looked like it was great!

Public transport to the smaller villages seems to be getting worse. We're lucky as our village is on quite a few routes and so the buses tend to stop here often enough to get to Durham. Having said that you'd need to go to Durham to go anywhere else which isn't great but at least it's something!

I just drive everywhere and accept I'm going to be a taxi. We're getting an electric car later this year to save on fuel costs!
