The wind is so strong. Pretty sure our roof tiles are sliding about! Hope everyone’s safe and well.

@Someaddedsugar I’ve given up trying to sleep for now as the wind is so loud and the creaking and thudding above me is freaking me out! We’re waiting to have our roof replaced and I’m really worried about how well the roof holds up.

Someaddedsugar · 27/11/2021 07:24

@TattiePants I hope you managed to get some sleep in the end. I must have drifted off soon after posting and woke up at 6.30. I was meant to be visiting family today but going to ring and rearrange as really don’t fancy driving if the wind keeps up. I know it’s nowhere near the levels from last night but still feels very strong.

Our power is still off and is not apparently expected to come back on until 4pm. I’m freezing.

Florelei · 27/11/2021 07:55

I hope everyone is safe and well

PickAChew · 27/11/2021 08:10

The roads are a mess, too, @Someaddedsugar.

Are you able to make hot drinks, @florelei? I saw on the BBC that engineers haven't been able to repair the lines because it's not safe to climb.

Neighbour's rotten fence, held up by spit and a prayer, is in smithereens on the pavement, now.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/11/2021 08:15

I lost you!!

We’ve lost a roof tile but this is the house that jack worked on so not surprised. Lots of wind but thankfully no rain.
Hope the power comes back soon

Someaddedsugar · 27/11/2021 10:16

Hope you're ok @Florelei!

We've lost roof tiles and the cement or whatever it is that runs alongside the edge holding the end tiles on - can't imagine us being a priority either considering the other damage that's happened this weekend. Just hoping the rain isn't too bad today/tomorrow until we can get someone out to have a look!

In our village there are smaller trees blown over and fences down but hopefully nothing too serious. I've seen photos on Twitter of chimneys landing on a neighbour's roof or cars - I've always completely taken for granted just how dangerous the wind can be!

Keep safe everyone!

I did manage a couple more hours sleep @Someaddedsugar but woken up to chaos. Lots of edge tiles off the roof and smashed in the garden, fence and wall down and the street at the end of my road is completely blocked.

No one has been hurt which is the most important thing. The joys of living on the NE coast!

NotMyDayJob · 27/11/2021 10:59

I left my keys in the front door last night but the weather was so bad no opportunist thieves were abroad! Still very windy here near Durham city and it might be starting to snow...

Florelei · 27/11/2021 11:38

Power back on in Lanchester. I’ve just been for a walk around and there’s a lot of damage.

Hope everyone is ok.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 27/11/2021 12:50

Hope all OK. Assume trees down etc here. No damage to our house that I have noticed. I've not ventured out though. Scout thing was cancelled, the venue has no power and has suffered a fair bit of damage. We lost power last night and still not back so no electric and no heat. Brrrrr!

Florelei · 27/11/2021 13:04

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea - I hope yours comes back on soon! I drove down Holwden/Maiden Law bank and northern power grid were there working on the lines. I know that Maiden Rise on the old Lanchester hospital site is off still.

Are you able to make hot drinks on your hob at all?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 27/11/2021 13:09

No, no mains gas here so all electric but o have a camping stove so we've had soup for lunch and can do hot drinks. My phone is at 37% battery which is of course the worst disaster. If lanchester is mostly back do you think yannis will be open and doing takeaway tonight? Am making no power back contingency plans!

Florelei · 27/11/2021 13:22

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea I’m not sure about yanni’s. I know Deano’s is shut until the new year. Ravello s will be open probably. The kings Head was deffo open when I drove past it before.

Also the Pavillion up at iveston does takeaways still. It’s Saturday night though so if you wanted one I’d pre order your slot at lunchtime! Fingers crossed you’re back on the power shortly.

I’m glad you are able to make hot drinks. I was going to offer to meet you somewhere in the village with some flasks if necessary.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 27/11/2021 13:46

That's so kind @Florelei, thank you. I see Northern Power have put updates by postcode on Facebook. We are estimated 4pm so fingers crossed, some areas are not estimated to come back until tomorrow.

Gilead · 27/11/2021 13:58

Somehow still have fences up and can’t see any roof tiles. Friends in Hamsterley have lost power and the same apparently at Delves. This very quiet edge of steel town is okay, although still snowing, no surprise there mind!

PickAChew · 27/11/2021 14:15

It snows there in June, @Gilead 😂

Themes on Nextdoor, today:
Need a roofer
When's the leccy back on?
Need a roofer
Whose is this greenhouse in my garden?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 27/11/2021 14:21

Have just seen a neighbour and apparently there is no water in tow law.

PickAChew · 27/11/2021 14:25

Yeah, saw that on twitter. They've been hit hard.

Did anyone see the carnage at crimdon dene caravan park?

Gilead · 27/11/2021 15:44

It snows there in June, @Gilead** 😂
Only on a good year! 😆

MrsEWeatherwax · 27/11/2021 16:01

Glad everyone is okay. It was snowing here 30 minutes ago and lying. 🥶.
A shed has fallen into a friends garden and took the whole fence with it.
I’m seen so many uprooted trees today. Broom house farm was very quiet.
Also saw a tree that was split in two, wish I had stopped car and taken photo.
Stay warm and safe everyone.

Florelei · 27/11/2021 18:27

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea - is your power back on now? 🤞🤞
