The pictures look great, especially the lamps, can you sit underneath? I love the interactive ones. Looking forward to Sunday now.

PickAChew · 19/11/2021 17:40

Yes, it looks like the lamp bases are benches.

Someaddedsugar · 19/11/2021 19:04

We've just got back and it was fab - just the right amount of busy! And lots of shops and restaurants open and selling drinks etc.

We loved the interactive ones too @PickAChew - DS was fascinated by them!

The cathedral was impressive as always too! And I loved the quote on the side of the library building.

Great to see such a good event return to Durham, and for free!

Hope you have a good time tomorrow @MrsEWeatherwax!

@Someaddedsugar. Glad you enjoyed it, I bet your DS sleeps tonight.
So excited for Sunday now.
Did anyone manage to book the bus to Finchale? Is anyone going to Ushaw college?

TheSilveryPussycat · 20/11/2021 01:30

I would have liked to go to Finchale, but left it too late.

There doesn't seem to be any info about parking at Ushaw College, though I would like to go.

Didn't get a ticket to the city attractions, and don't think it's worth me going in for the few city unticketed ones. For this year's Lumiere I may have to make do with driving somewhere to see Penshaw from a distance.

Hopefully the Christmas Angel will make another appearance this year. If so I am going to do my damnedest to see it this time, I am even prepared to lie in wait for it at Ch-le-St Grin

MrsEWeatherwax · 20/11/2021 08:48

Good luck TheSilveryPussycat catching the Santa bus.I really hope they run it again.
I think Ushaw College is free during Lumiere. Parking is available as normal.

TheSilveryPussycat · 20/11/2021 14:43

I'd forgotten about the Santa bus. Didn't see that either - just missed it in spite of tracking. Hopefully this year...

Florelei · 22/11/2021 08:16

Wow - sounds like lumiere was great this year!

We’ve just had our first frost of the year. It’s so cold!

MrsEWeatherwax · 22/11/2021 09:03

I thought the Lumiere was just okay, nothing was amazing.
In fact as we went yesterday it was freezing and raining. I was just so cold and wet.
Would have been so much better if dry.

MrsEWeatherwax · 25/11/2021 12:17

I hope it doesn’t snow at weekend.
If anyone is local to Chester le Street the light switch on is this Saturday 4 ish and food/craft market on morning.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 25/11/2021 20:11

I hour the weather behaves, weather warnings though....

I am out all day with the scouts, including 1 of my dc, on Saturday then 2 of my dc are out all day Sunday on scouting thing. Will need to break out the merino base layers I think!

TheSilveryPussycat · 26/11/2021 11:10

Re weather: May I recommend this thread by OhYouBadKitten, who knows her stuff, plus the thread is always fun. She always starts a winter thread around this time of year.

TheSilveryPussycat · 26/11/2021 11:12

There is now a Red Warning for the NE because of the expected wind.

PickAChew · 26/11/2021 12:20

Oops, my bad. I had chickpeas, last night.

Prepping like mad, today. Stay safe, folks.

TheSilveryPussycat · 26/11/2021 17:37

Hooray!
Just underneath, someone asked if there would be the Christmas Angel, but they didn't know - but didn't rule it out.

myrtleWilson · 26/11/2021 19:48

Popped up to Arnison after dropping DD at work for 6pm - so grim out there.

Florelei · 26/11/2021 20:12

We’ve got a full on power cut here in Lanchester. It’s so strange.

PickAChew · 26/11/2021 20:54

Yes, it's pretty foul and we're nowhere near the worst of it, yet.

Hope you get power back soon, @florelei. We've charged everything we can possibly charge and made sure nothing we'd need for breakfast is in the fridge. Also bought a jar of emergency hot dogs in case we're stuck for lunch!

Florelei · 26/11/2021 20:56

@PickAChew excellent plan! I’m considering going to McDonald’s but the roads are pretty bad up to consett!

The power is meant to be back on at 9.30pm. I’m currently drowning my sorrows with brandy by candlelight!

PickAChew · 26/11/2021 21:08

Fingers crossed. Our lights just flickered 😬

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 26/11/2021 21:38

Eeek hope you get power soon. Ours used to be terrible (not far from you in lanchester) and go out any time it was a bit windy. I had a special power cut box with candles, matches, gas lamp, gas stove and old corded phone. A few years ago they upgraded something and it improved massively.

PickAChew · 26/11/2021 22:02

We still have all the lamps from when we lived in a village with overhead power lines. We lost power almost every day, for a couple of years.

We must be in the eye, at the moment. It's strangely calm compared with an hour ago.
