Found you!!

Florelei · 01/09/2021 12:38

Sorry pressed post by mistake and now I look creepy! I’m in Spain and they keep bringing me free cocktails round the pool. So it’s be rude to refuse!

Thanks for starting the new thread @Someaddedsugar

Someaddedsugar · 01/09/2021 12:43

Grin it would definitely be rude to refuse @Florelei. Hope you're enjoying your holiday! Did you fly from Newcastle? How did you find the flight/airport bit?

OP posts:
Florelei · 01/09/2021 13:02

We were meant to fly out of NCL but ended up going from Leeds! The airport was fine - very quiet! @Someaddedsugar

MrsEWeatherwax · 01/09/2021 13:08

Just checking in. Thank you @Someaddedsugar.
Very envious of your holiday @Florelei. Weather quite grey here. Have a couple of cocktails for me 🍹

Flatdisco · 01/09/2021 13:10

Hi!

PickAChew · 01/09/2021 13:59

Just parking my cushion.

Hello everyone! BrewBrewBrew

Someaddedsugar · 01/09/2021 19:21

Has anyone been to Shildon Carnival before? DS quite likes monster trucks and I've just seen some on an advert but I've never been before so not sure if it's worth going?

OP posts:
MrsEWeatherwax · 01/09/2021 22:14

Just looked Shildon carnival up, the monster trucks look great. I think it will be brilliant and you could have the railway museum as a back up if rubbish.

PickAChew · 01/09/2021 23:30

We were at the railway museum a couple of weeks ago (bus even - what else?) and yiu have to pre-book to get in so can't turn up spontaneously.

PickAChew · 01/09/2021 23:30

Event.
You.
Phone is a dickhead.

MrsEWeatherwax · 02/09/2021 00:41

Ah, do you, definitely worth booking I have heard. I would love to visit but I’m too old to visit. Shildon railway I mean.
I am sick of pre booking things, I like to get up on a weekend and just go! So we haven’t been any where other than cinema. I’m just so lazy.

TheSilveryPussycat · 02/09/2021 13:33

I would love to visit but I’m too old to visit.

If it helps, there is a free bus that takes you from the entrance, and along to the exhibition shed, passing the remains of the depot that Timothy Hackworth set up. He developed and improved locomotives for the Stockton and Darlington.

Someaddedsugar · 02/09/2021 20:38

I'm also sick of pre-booking things. Definitely ruins the chance to just do something on a whim!

DS loves the railway museum. DParents take him there often and it would be lovely to experience it with him so I might book it anyway! At least if we do go to the carnival they're both in the same place!

MrsEWeatherwax · 03/09/2021 10:03

I will have to visit them. Shame I have no young children. Maybe near Christmas.
Before covid if anyone asked I would have said I liked to plan. But I have realised my planning I mean a day or two in advance then looking at rain and deciding not to goBlush. Beamish is a perfect example we would just get up and go. Especially if nice day.

Someaddedsugar · 03/09/2021 18:05

I agree @MrsEWeatherwax - I always thought I was a planner, but have recently realised that I'm not quite as much of a planner as I thought. You can't even go to soft play without pre-booking at the moment which is a bit of a pain if DS wakes early and I'm looking for something to do at 9am!

I hope the weather cheers up a bit soon.

There's a family fun day on at the field behind the community centre in Witton Gilbert tomorrow - apparently there'll be rides and games and some food stalls.

MrsEWeatherwax · 04/09/2021 14:31

Anyone who fancies trying the peach melba that Vera ate on the tv show, you can actually buy one at Citrone cafe at Chester le Street.
The weather hasn’t been great, today for Witton’s fun day. I use to go to the toddler play group back in the day.
Just seen the trams at Beamish museum are coming back, just weekends though.

TheSilveryPussycat · 04/09/2021 16:40

peach melba

Is this the north east little cake thing? I haven't seen one for decades, it was a popular one in the 1980s when colleagues brought in cream cakes for birthdays.

PickAChew · 04/09/2021 18:38

I last had a peach melba in Fenwick's, about 5 years ago, before they went all fartisan.

Not really a fan, tbh.

MrsEWeatherwax · 04/09/2021 23:24

Peach Melba is a pastry case with slice of peach then covered with whipped cream then the cream covered with icing. I don’t mind then, but I don’t really like the pastry.
Witton’s fun day looked like a good day.
We just went to the cinema again, new marvel movie. Was fun. A certain person was so funny.

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 13:26

Hope the bus station is built soon, because North road was heaving on Saturday afternoon. Must be affecting the shops. There is hardly any path other than bus stop!
Hopefully whatever they found under the old bus station is sorted soon.

PickAChew · 06/09/2021 14:21

North Road is chaos, at the moment. I nipped in to collect some glasses, a couple of weeks ago and missed several buses in a row because the 3 stops I need are the full length of the street and people with many and slow moving. The final bus I missed then got no further than 50 yards from its stop thanks to the fact that one of arriva's rust buckets had conked out.

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/09/2021 14:34

Yes chaos is the word. We were dodging people waiting for bus, getting on bus, getting off bus and the drivers.
I feel so sorry for the shops, they should be receiving some compensation from Durham county council. And if I was shop owner I wouldn’t be paying for DurhamBid. What a waste of money that is.
And most of the shops were shut, so I dread to think how bad is was earlier in the day.
PickAChew you don’t seem to like Arriva. Is it better for you that the 21 bus goes not far from you. Where I live we only have GoNorth East.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/09/2021 14:37

There’s a north east thread. Pls can I join?
