@Someaddedsugar jh have been around as a small independent for years. They run some supported services, like scarlet band do and do school runs, on top of their daily Blackpool run and other coach trips. They've been helping go north east out with their X11 from Newcastle to Whitby, as well as filling in on the 64. Arriva are back to doing the 64 themselves, this week, mind. The bus that blocked North Road, the other week, was conked out in the bus stop around the corner from me, this morning!

@Neonplant

Hi all I'm in Gateshead I remember a few of the user names from the lockdown thread. I'm having surgery 2 weeks today. So crapping myself , trying to distract myself with mumsnet. So... In other news my niece started school today and I'm beyond proud. (I don't have my own!). Is everyone gearing up for back to school?
Ds2 went back to school, yesterday - his school went back last week, but some building work had overrun and his class had a delay getting into its new classroom.

Good luck with the surgery. My mum has been waiting for an emergency atrial ablation since July :(

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/09/2021 07:22

Good luck with the surgery

Last of our schools back today,
I think there is only one town famous for railway beginning with D
I might go to the fest of thrift on Sunday as seeing James whotsit in Newcastle on the Saturday

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 08/09/2021 07:26

I did not know there was a NE thread! Born and bred here, moved away for a few years but now back and living close to where I grew up, a few miles north of Newcastle.

Hope the surgery goes well Flowers

I used to live in one of the rougher parts of Gateshead, most of my memories of that time are crime-related (witnessing not committing! Grin )

Someaddedsugar · 08/09/2021 08:22

Hope your survey goes well @Neonplant.

@OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg welcome .

Ah that makes more sense @PickAChew - I was wondering if they were a new company that were replacing an existing company on a route!

We're going to Barnard Castle today and I'm hoping it's a bit quieter than the last time we went - it seems to be one of those places that's always busy!

Thanks for all the good wishes! I'm bloody bricking it. Not sure how the weather is for you all but it's hot in Gateshead today. Our house is south facing with little shade so one side of the house gets boiling!

QforCucumber · 08/09/2021 16:28

Ooooo I like this, Hello!

I'm Teesside based so hope still welcome to pop in and join Grin

TheSilveryPussycat · 08/09/2021 19:28

Hello to all the new posters!

I am starting to think there is a mysterious link developing between Durham and its surrounds, and Croydon, which is where I am from originally. My new hairdressers is run by ex-pat Croydonians, and I met a young chef who was also from round there the other day. Determining factors were cheap property, and the hairdressing lot used to all come up to Sunderland to visit one of them's nan when they were younger.

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/09/2021 19:44

Hot here today but working so couldn’t enjoy it,
Barnard castle is always busy ish. Isn’t wed market day as well.

MrsEWeatherwax · 08/09/2021 20:49

It’s been very hot today and yesterday.
I have been on lots of JH coach trips over the years. Especially loved the Flamingo land and Lightwater valley. The gold coaches always look really nice. There are quite a few parked up at Barley mow.
Welcome all the new posters.
Someaddedsugar hope you had a lovely day. I’m embarrassed to say I have only ever driven though Barnard Castle. Unless you count Bowles museum.
Would love to visit castle ruin as I’m sure there is a Richard the third connection.
Plus I love a ruin( always wanted to be an archer Blush)

PickAChew · 10/09/2021 13:45

Just spent the morning in town. That new branch of The Works is so much less cramped than the old one. Lots of students milling about - was nice to see the place looking a bit more alive.

After finding myself in the path of an angry, ranty drunk on North Road, on my way in, decided to catch the bus home from Claypath. Waited over 20 minutes for one.

Someaddedsugar · 10/09/2021 19:57

Barnard Castle wasn't too bad despite market day. Having said that we left at lunchtime so it may have got busier in the afternoon!

Some lovely food shops there though!

I think we're going to have a look around Durham tomorrow so will have to go and have a look at the new Works. I also want to pop to Dragonville after seeing some Home Bargains bits and pieces over on the Christmas bargains thread Grin. On that note if anyone in the Durham/Darlington area happens to spot a Colin advent calendar in M&S please will you let me know?

North Road is becoming so busy and I think quite dangerous now @PickAChew. On an evening there's the mix of the Wetherspoons crowd and then all of the students/people finishing work and very often people just walking in the road without realising the buses travel pretty quickly down there!

MrsEWeatherwax · 10/09/2021 21:07

Gosh a Colin advent calendar! I will definitely let you know. I’m hoping to bag a Halloween Colin this year. Also really want to buy a light up sparkly gin and I don’t even drink ginBlush
Did anyone get caught in the storm rain downpour. I was driving, my heart was hammering in my chest.
Personally the only thing that with improve North Road is demolition. It’s live trying to polish a turd. SorrySad

MrsEWeatherwax · 10/09/2021 21:09

I visited The Works bought more craft stuff. Really must finish something /anything I have actually started Blush

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/09/2021 21:16

I was put in the storm and unfortunately was walking the dog between showers and the biggest thunder clap terrified him

Someaddedsugar · 10/09/2021 21:21

Thanks @MrsEWeatherwax. I didn’t know they did a Halloween Colin! DS would love that! Poor DP, DF and DFIL are forced to have Colin cakes for their birthdays and Father’s Day as DS just thinks Colin is amazing!

They had the light up gin and biscuits at the Arnison Centre yesterday morning.

The rain was so heavy. I was out with the dog too @lifelongfrugaleer but thankfully no thunder. I found it quite surreal as it sounded like someone had put the kettle on and all of a sudden we watched the rain come towards us. Hope your dog’s ok.

PickAChew · 10/09/2021 21:36

Ds2 arrived home from school just as the heaviest part of the downpour hit. I'd been waiting for him outside for some fresh air until a few minutes before. Sweet talked dh into volke ting him from the taxi 🚖😁

PickAChew · 10/09/2021 21:36

Collecting

MrsEWeatherwax · 10/09/2021 21:38

I didn’t notice the thunderBlush was too busy trying to see out of windshield.
Hope your dog is okay lifelongfrugaleer extra cuddles tonight.
Will have to visit Arnison to buy sparkly gin. Are there any cocktails made with gin to disguise the taste.

QforCucumber · 10/09/2021 22:03

Teesside Park had the gins and the rum this lunchtime. A huge display of them all.
I did not notice any advent calenders 🤣 but wouldn't expect to.

Caught twice in downpours, out running last night (race for life training, I've not run in years argh) and then school run today. The one day I decide to walk it! Ds(5) absolutely loved it though bless him!

merryhouse · 10/09/2021 22:06

Last time I saw rain like that the school was closed for four weeks...

We walked into town to see the film last week and spent half of Claypath pondering the buses Grin

Tinuviel · 10/09/2021 22:47

Hi all! May I join you? I also live in a railway town beginning with D! And you are right about the fabric shop - it's fab!

I didn't know there were any quilting shops in the area! I may have to visit, although I really shouldn't buy any more fabric until I've used some of the stuff I bought on holiday and finished some projects.
