Does anyone still use a mug tree?

Reading a book and the narrator is describing a house as being dated and he mentions seeing a mug tree which made me think that I don’t think I’ve seen a house with a mug tree in it for years!!
We don’t have one, do you? Did you used to have one and now don’t?
I remember my mum having one when I was a kid, (late 80’s) but I’ve never had one since I had my own place. I don’t drink tea or coffee but dh does so we do own mugs, they just live in the cupboard on the shelf above small glasses!

I do Grin

Oh okay, maybe they’re more popular than I thought! I’m going to ask my mum if she still has one, I don’t recall seeing it but I’ll check.

I've been thinking of getting one! Maybe they are coming back round?

ThisIsTrifficult · 31/08/2021 11:20

I just bought one!

tiredanddangerous · 31/08/2021 11:21

I haven't but I could do with one. We don't have much cupboard space in the kitchen and I could do with an extra shelf!

Holidaytan · 31/08/2021 11:21

Yes, we have one

Noshowwithoutpunch · 31/08/2021 11:21

Used to but tbh I really don't know what happened to it and why I now put our mugs in the cupboard.Confused

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 31/08/2021 11:22

We don't have room on our tiny worktop.

LegendaryReady · 31/08/2021 11:22

My mum is still using the original 1980s pine one.

I need one. I've been looking for a "modern" equivalent for years.

SylvanianFrenemies · 31/08/2021 11:22

Yes. Obviously we're at the cutting edge of the revival.

Marcee · 31/08/2021 11:23

We have one

Florasteddy · 31/08/2021 11:23

I used to. But then I started reducing clutter and now we have precisely 4 mugs in a cupboard Blush

TheChosenTwo · 31/08/2021 11:24

Just messaged my mum, she no longer has a mug tree.
Wow, I'm surprised at how many people use mug trees! I don’t know why, it stands to reason that it frees up precious cupboard space in kitchens that have more gadgets and gizmos than they used to I guess.
I don’t have anything bar a kettle and a coffee machine on my kitchen sides (neither of which I use) as I like everything put away, it’s easier to clean, but we have built quite a large kitchen to accommodate this!

I have one. Didn't realise they weren't cool.

MistyFrequencies · 31/08/2021 11:27

I was just thinking yesterday that I wanted one next to the kettle, wondering if you could still buy them anywhere. Funny this thread then pops up.

Downunderduchess · 31/08/2021 11:29

I use one for jewellery, my bangles & necklaces etc.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 31/08/2021 11:29

Behold my mug tree!

The reason for it is because I collect Emma bridgewater bird mugs and I have 35 more in the cupboard. They all come out on a weekly rotation Blush

Bloody hell this site is useless at times!

It's the little things we text our mums about, isn't it? My mum has a row of hooks under her kitchen cupboards. Keeps work surfaces clear but her many pretty mugs in sight. Works for her!
SirenSays · 31/08/2021 11:36

I have a black and chrome one to match my kitchen.

FlowerArranger · 31/08/2021 11:39

@SuperCaliFragalistic

I have one. Didn't realise they weren't cool.
I'm glad I'm not the only one!!
MayContainNits · 31/08/2021 11:40

I've got a huge cupboard for mugs, plates, bowls, etc, but DH prefers his tea in Very Specific Mugs, so they stay on a mug tree by the kettle.

We also have a spice rack. Living the 1975 dream here...

ApolloandDaphne · 31/08/2021 11:41

My DM has one. She has always had one as far as I can recall and she is 80 now.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/08/2021 11:42

Yes, a metal one. I didn't know they were old fashioned.
