Does anyone still use a mug tree?

Reading a book and the narrator is describing a house as being dated and he mentions seeing a mug tree which made me think that I don’t think I’ve seen a house with a mug tree in it for years!!
We don’t have one, do you? Did you used to have one and now don’t?
I remember my mum having one when I was a kid, (late 80’s) but I’ve never had one since I had my own place. I don’t drink tea or coffee but dh does so we do own mugs, they just live in the cupboard on the shelf above small glasses!

Here's my DIY attempt lol... I put the very bottom hook to low down though so only useful for one of DDs little mugs 🤣

Oh adore - well done. I think I’d want to tweak it with either more of an angle (hammer) or eg big bolt/washer at end. Knowing me I’d hang them and they’d come right off.
Good but if assembly there. Has slightly motivated me to get on and make coat rack thing I’ve been meaning to do for ages.

Arh thank you. It was one my first steps into woodwork. Lol
I made a letter/key hook rack thing as well for our hall.... haven't made anything for a while and really miss doing it.

Well done @adoreyou - love the very low branch only suitable for a small mug too!

Bleeurgh, no! My grandparents had one and as they got older and infirmer, they didn't wash and dry properly and mucky dishwater dregs would end up festering in the bottom Envy (not envy). Mugs upside down in cupboard for me!

We have a sort of round Dalek-shaped thing, not quite a tree, which holds ten mugs. It's fab - I much prefer it to our old mug tree.

spiderlight · 01/09/2021 11:04

Oh, but now I've looked at the description of it and even Amazon calls it 'nostalgic'! It's this.

I too saw that one and liked it. Maybe as a dolls house coat stand. I deffo wanted to find a use for it but not as a mug stand.

I do, I have two. One next to kettle and another next to sink

@Bellagonna

If you see someone who has a mug tree that hasn't fallen over it's a sure sign she's a witch.

I have 3. Plus butter dish, salt pig, toast rack. Fruit platter thingy.
Old fashioned 'maiden' airer. Cast iron pan hanger.
Candle chandelier thingy (yet to be hung, an old one, goes with house)
No matching canisters though.

I am getting short of room even for a mug tree having collected so many “desirable” kitchen items. Otherwise a good idea as used to have one.

labazslovesliving · 02/09/2021 10:37

nope hate them not much worktop room and when I did try one the mugs used to fall off really easily and smash. Charity shops seem to have loads of them along with CD racks and magazine racks

Eyesofdisarray · 02/09/2021 10:40

I recycled mine into a kitchen roll holder before I finally threw it out 😀
