I need something to listen to, I’ll have a listen to it now ..

endofthelinefinally · 23/08/2021 14:43

Yes. It descended into a huge bunfight and MN deleted the thread.

Perching · 23/08/2021 15:48

I detest it when women are called ‘Karen’
So misogynistic

WithLargeTableMouse · 23/08/2021 15:49

@Perching

I detest it when women are called ‘Karen’ So misogynistic
Yes this. Where’s the male equivalent or is it just about keeping women quiet?
Chicchicchicchiclana · 23/08/2021 15:59

Sorry, I'm not going to listen to something that's over an hour long. What is noteworthy about it?

hocusspocuss · 23/08/2021 16:07

Yes I have listened. Still think she's a racist.

endofthelinefinally · 23/08/2021 16:10

I listened to it and found it very thought provoking, as was the thread about it, even though it did get very nasty and aggressive.
Unfortunately, a lot of people can't be bothered to read or listen to anything longer than a twitter or FB post. That is why so much opinion is based on false information/sound bites.
For example, the genocide of the Rohynga people in Burma was orchestrated on FB. People believed the lies and propaganda because they weren't interested or motivated to question it.
Social media can be very damaging.

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/08/2021 16:11

Yes I have come across it. I didn't think I could be more disappointed by Amy Cooper after her racist behaviour in Central Park. I was wrong.🙄

endofthelinefinally · 23/08/2021 16:30

Whatever anyone thinks of the people involved in that altercation, the slur "karen" is such a horrible thing to call anybody. It is used far too often by people who actually have no idea what it really means.

Constellationstation · 23/08/2021 16:32

I just listened to it and then rewatched the video. Really interesting that she shows no remorse whatsoever for the way she handled it. I don’t think she was entirely honest about what happened. In the video she’s walking towards him telling him not to film her. I think she has deep-rooted racism and no self awareness about her prejudices. In her eyes she felt scared and that abdicated her of all responsibility for her behaviour.
Saying that though, it is scary how social media can ruin people’s lives. So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson is an interesting read.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 23/08/2021 16:33

It's on Apple, I can't listen to it.

Enough4me · 23/08/2021 16:35

I won't listen as you used a nice regular name as a slur.

endofthelinefinally · 23/08/2021 16:40

@TheLovelinessOfDemons

It's on Apple, I can't listen to it.
I listened to it just by clicking the link. I was on my laptop. I don't yave any apple devices and my IT skills are very basic.
bargelights · 23/08/2021 16:44

She's a racist. She can pretend all she likes that she isn't, but her actions say otherwise. What she did was despicable. And she evidently just wants to pretend she was a victim.🙄 What a thoroughly appalling thing to do.

Makhiaman · 23/08/2021 16:47

Yes the slur ‘Karen’ is sooo oppressive and offensive, but the racism is forgivable as long as you have a really good sob story Hmm

endofthelinefinally · 23/08/2021 16:51

I am certainly not saying racism is in any way acceptable.
I have a good friend whose teenage sin called her a karen over something trivial. She was really upset. I think he just heard it at school and trotted it out without thinking. That is what I mean by saying that using these awful slurs casually is wrong.

endofthelinefinally · 23/08/2021 16:51

Son. Not sin.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 23/08/2021 16:54

So it's an interview with her, putting her spin on it?

Saucery · 23/08/2021 16:55

Lose the ‘Karen’ shit and I’ll give it a listen.

PalmarisLongus · 23/08/2021 16:55

“I am going to call the police and tell them an African American male is threatening me”

He wasnt, he was stood there.
If he had been white and stood there, she would not have said,

“I am going to call the police and tell them a white male is threatening me”

HumunaHey · 23/08/2021 16:57

Agree.

This.

She knew exactly what she was doing when she weaponised his race. She’s now gone off for a year, found a right wing commentator willing to listen to her and has come up with some bullshit story about how she was scared he was going to harm her.

Yes, because him stepping back telling her to step away is him being aggressive...

And because of that, his race becomes relevant.

Sorry, but she’s an unapologetic sympathy seeking racist.

Or neither are forgivable.
