I'm sick and tired of people using a pefectly nice name as an offensive sexist insult.

Just don't do it.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 23/08/2021 17:07

There is actual video evidence of what she said. It is crystal clear. As is what she meant by saying it. Whatever she bleats on about in interviews changes nothing, is a pathetic attempt to rewrite the interaction and should be given zero headspace.

emuloc · 23/08/2021 17:07

No I will not be listening to it. I have no interest in hearing what that racist women has to say about anything.

I’m also sick and tired of people using offence at “Karen” as an excuse to avoid tackling real issues, such as racism...
Makhiaman · 23/08/2021 17:08

Neither is forgivable? Are you for real? Grouping them together as if racism and calling someone a Karen are comparable in any way?

Karen predominantly means a woman who uses their privilege as a weapon against people of colour, that is exactly what she did. You think calling out a racist is as unforgivable as being an actual racist?

Why are some people so keen to defend this woman anyway, she made her bed. Why try to defend someone who’s actions and intent were so clearly shown on camera? Is it because she’s a woman? Or because she’s white?

emuloc · 23/08/2021 17:10

I see already some people seem more concerned with the name karen being used, and less concerned about the horrible impact of racism on people.

MsHedgehog · 23/08/2021 17:11

@Makhiaman Agreed, people care more at being called a racist, than tackling racism.

You also missed the previous thread - many posters were defending her simply because she was a lone woman who faced a man in the woods!

MrsPsmalls · 23/08/2021 17:17

Well this is absolute balls. Where on earth have you got that meaning from.?

@MrsPsmalls

Because that is what it means.

It has since been hijacked by those who use it as an insult against people whose views they disagree with, but that is exactly where Karen stems from.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/08/2021 17:24

So that makes it OK to use then?

If it’s to describe those who use their privilege as a weapon, yes, it is.

And the same does exist for men - Ken.

Stop acting precious over the use of “Karen” and FOCUS ON RACISM!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/08/2021 17:27

Why can't do both?

Call out racism and stop using a lazy misogynistic slur?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/08/2021 17:28

And pease don't shout at me.

emuloc · 23/08/2021 17:28

I wish people would just use her real name, it would give those who seek to detract from the real issue of racism no where to go.

MsHedgehog · 23/08/2021 17:28

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Why can't do both?

Because it’s not misogynistic to identify and describe a racist white woman.
Constellationstation · 23/08/2021 17:29

OP what did you find interesting about the podcast?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/08/2021 17:30

But you said it's evolved and it's used as an insult for people whose opinion you disagree with. It that OK?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/08/2021 17:30

Oh and anytime you want to apologise for the shouting.....

MsHedgehog · 23/08/2021 17:31

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

And pease don't shout at me.
Apologies, wasn’t shouting at you! Just get so fed up of people who are all “oh, but Karen” and ignore the actual issue.
MsHedgehog · 23/08/2021 17:32

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Oh and anytime you want to apologise for the shouting.....
I did apologise... give me a second to actually type. I’m not glued to my screen...
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/08/2021 17:32

That's ok.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/08/2021 17:33

No one ignores the issue you bring up, you conflate two issues.

MsHedgehog · 23/08/2021 17:35

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

No one ignores the issue you bring up, you conflate two issues.
I’m really not.

I see it all the time on MN. The second the word “Karen” is used, people ignore the racist behaviour and focus only on the use of Karen. It’s already evident in this thread.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 23/08/2021 17:36

@MrsPsmalls

Karen predominantly means a woman who uses their privilege as a weapon against people of colour, that is exactly what she did. Well this is absolute balls. Where on earth have you got that meaning from.?
It was created by a white man to publicly criticise his ex wife in great detail.

Anyway. OP I hope you realise that using a normal name as an insult does affect how you come across and whether people will devote time to listen to what you want to say.

FrippEnos · 23/08/2021 17:39

All it really shows it that she is a racist and he is a dick.
