At least there’s a place that will happily take her now

Shamima Begum’s solicitor just tweeted this
OP posts:
SueSaid · 16/08/2021 13:05

'Not least because Shamima Begum ran away to join ISIS which, as I understand it, the Taliban opposes.'

God who cares if the taliban like isis or not. They're both anti western terrorist organisations, they have that in common.

Akunjee seems to have a chip on his shoulder. I hope the sra investigate this and any other goady tweets.

RhonaRed · 16/08/2021 13:06

He's a charmer.

MrsKeats · 16/08/2021 13:06

Surely he's been hacked?

pollypokcet · 16/08/2021 13:06

@OhWhyNot

I don’t see calling a group of men with machine guns boys as being supportive or celebrating

I doubt they would be happy being called boys …

I view it as the whole situation is very fucked up

I’m guessing though he is Muslim (he is brown that’s enough for some) and well they are not allowed to make such comments without claims of supporting his kind

It's not about colour though, there are certainly people who sympathise with terrorist groups and many are white people too.

Bottom line, it's not appropriate and he could've put out a better message than this. Given who he is, it's no surprise people would think the worst

Nightlystroll · 16/08/2021 13:06

@Southernbellenot. Read his other tweets. He's not clever, he's a bigot.

RhonaRed · 16/08/2021 13:07

Hacked?
Hmm

SueSaid · 16/08/2021 13:08

'On his Twitter feed he has a few unexplored comments if you go back far. Makes you wonder why her family would select this particular as solicitor for her. '

Yes it does make you wonder. Not the brightest choice.

MrsKeats · 16/08/2021 13:09

Surely any intelligent person would know not to put this on a public forum??!!
Bizarre.

Nothapppy · 16/08/2021 13:09

He wasn't hacked - he's tweeted that he was being ironic.

MrsKeats · 16/08/2021 13:09

Oh right. That's not much better. Or funny.

RhonaRed · 16/08/2021 13:11

"just joking"
That old chestnut.

SueSaid · 16/08/2021 13:11

'Given who he is, it's no surprise people would think the worst'

It isn't 'thinking the worst' it is pointing out taking the piss is not appropriate as you then go on to say.

Wonder if he lols at Charlie hebdo 'satire'. I doubt it.

MrsBede · 16/08/2021 13:12

twitter.com/politicaliteuk/status/1421556401361543174

He doesn't come across at all well in this link, but then neither does the other person in places - lots of Islamophobic comments. He seems like the sort of person who shouldn't be let loose on Twitter though - definitely unprofessional because, yes, Twitter is definitely an extension of work for people in his position who post as themselves.

OhWhyNot · 16/08/2021 13:13

Are we going to pretend that because he is brown he won’t be judged more on his tweet or as we have seen on here people make the assumption he supports the Taliban

That assumption wouldn’t have been made if by so many he was white

Anordinarymum · 16/08/2021 13:14

@Nothapppy

He wasn't hacked - he's tweeted that he was being ironic.
Nah
itsgettingwierd · 16/08/2021 13:14

@NotPersephone

I’m a solicitor and I have reported to SRA.
It's good to know professionals are reporting this.
MrsBede · 16/08/2021 13:15

Also meant to say that to an extent I don't think the article in the link has much bearing on his Taliban Tweet. Well, other than showing that he tends towards being confrontational/edgy/a dick at times, but, again, I don't see it as supportive of the Taliban or lighthearted.

pollypokcet · 16/08/2021 13:16

@JaniieJones

I was just responding to people insisting it must be satire. As other have said, there's no reason to believe it to be

itsgettingwierd · 16/08/2021 13:16

@igelkott2021

I think that's fake news and someone has hacked the account. Surely her lawyer wouldn't be that stupid? I simply don't believe it. But the SRA should probably investigate to confirm.
It does appear unbelievable.

But remember Mark Small from Baker small solicitors who tweeted about SEND and another win against families with children with send for a LA.

Professionals have moments where they act unprofessionally.

SueSaid · 16/08/2021 13:21

I find Twitter fascinating. Trump is banned, but the taliban aren't. People like Ollie Robinson cause outrage for tweets posted years ago that he then apologises for, yet Twitter actually lets people like this lawyer post whatever goady crap they like.

igelkott2021 · 16/08/2021 13:21

@Nothapppy

He wasn't hacked - he's tweeted that he was being ironic.
Oh well in that case the SRA can do their worst (which isn't much - they are a rubbish regulator).
me4real · 16/08/2021 13:27

Wow, what a solicitor. [shocked] Who knows, Shamima might stand a chance if she had decent representation. They could argue she was groomed or something by a man when she was a child.

Xenia · 16/08/2021 13:30

"OhWhyNot Mon 16-Aug-21 11:46:44

Isn’t the message our government are happy to turn our back on a young women but they will welcome here

Isn’t that the truth ?"

Yes although I think it would be safer for him to avoid twitter as it can backfire.

Mind you I don't think the Taliban would want Begum there. I support the UK court's decision not to let her home to fight her case. I also am of the view she had entitlement to a Bangladeshi passport so we have not rendered her stateless.

JudgeJ · 16/08/2021 13:30

@IheartJKR

OMG 😱

I’m absolutely appalled

I'm more interested in who's paying for her solicitor, I do hope he's not on the Legal Aid gravy train.
JudgeJ · 16/08/2021 13:31

When the reality is that she went of her own free will and now doesn't like the consequences.
