Think upright courgette with carrot tip for nose, black olives for eyes and spinach leaves for wings....
Today we had a turnip animal with stick on eyelashes and a flower in its 'hair' ....

I can think of little persons who would have enjoyed this, but then they would have given them names and a story - and how can you cook them then?

Gingerwarthog · 12/09/2021 07:03

They all have names and DD used to make up back stories for them. No, once the courgette is made into an animal that's it - you can't eat it any more. Mostly penguins but one year DD made a courgette whale.
We make them to use up a glut of courgettes and/or for the fruit and veg shows in the village.
The turnip animal worked very well so that might be a way forward....

I remember a very odd phase when I was a child when I had a marrow I was treating as a doll. I remember putting it to ‘sleep’ in my toy cot. What a weirdo.

Silkiescatz · 12/09/2021 11:21

DD said she has done 3-4 hours study today and she is now off socialising again.

DH has woken up before midday and gone to Sainsburys to get things for a roast dinner and hopefully more flea spray.

I have been looking up electricity regulations as DH said we will just have a new plug put in the kitchen but its not as simple as just a plug, it will involve a new consumer unit under the regulations and maybe need listed buildings consent. I want to get the dishwasher and fridge installed in the kitchen. There was a dishwasher there before but not in a cupboard next to it so think that will be OK but fridge could become a bureaucratic nightmare. Our fridge is currently broken but just turned 3, its a Bosch so I am not too impressed, it was under warranty for 2 years.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/09/2021 11:47

It is 12:30 and both DC have made an appeareance - DD to get toast, DS to inform me about a quest he is doing online.
Silklie If listed buildings are what I think they are, good luck. My employer once did construction work on a listed building and wherever you turned there was the 'Landeskonservator' checking your every movement.

HelenaJustina · 12/09/2021 12:11

@Squirrel26 one of my DC had a friend made of celery until it got so limpid and revolting that even she no longer loved it.

Silkiescatz · 12/09/2021 12:29

I used to make faces out of vegetables on plates when DS was small to get him to eat vegetables - like a smile of peas, a carrot nose, broccoli hair, mashed potato eyes. I did in once in France and my inlaws and they were Shock as apparently no-one does that in France - think food is a very serious matter there but they giggled at it.

Thanks so much for the flea spray recommendation Mouse will get some of that and hope things are improving for your Mum. Hope you are fully recovered yourself as well now. It also has the renal food cheaper than Pets at Home. Though Pet Drugs does sound dodgy. Grin DH forgot the flea spray anyway, expected that as he always forgets around half of what he goes for. Luckily we live right next to a supermarket.

Silkiescatz · 12/09/2021 12:34

I forgot to mention ordered a eufy robot hoover for the living room which DS and rabbit trash on a daily basis. Not sure how it will go with a rabbit but says its fine with pets and rabbit loves to chase the dustpan and brush so I imagine him chasing and jumping on the eufy. Silkiecat would be terrified or very cross or both though they are apparently very quiet which is Silkiecat's main objection to the hoover.

Champagneforeveryone · 12/09/2021 13:48

I am in an empty area park while DS practices an interminable amount of parking manoeuvres badly

I almost long for the never ending hours of Charlie and Lola again Wink

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/09/2021 13:56

Who are charlie and lola? Oh I see... Do you have to sit in the car being jolted about or can you sit and watch from outside?

Silkiescatz · 12/09/2021 15:24

Just had a tough decision to make. We have had roast dinner then had the choice of lemon tart or strawberry tart. Dh asked me and we have 2 of each. I said ask DS as DH also did not know which and DS went for strawberry. So I asked DH to pick, he decided as I had lemon last time and he had strawberry maybe could do other way round to balance. So I had strawberry tart and there is one lemon tart left.

I have just made an apple crumble and its in the oven, ready for baking a bit later on.

Love an apple crumble. Especially at this time of year. Mmm with custard.

Silkiescatz · 12/09/2021 15:44

Enjoy your apple crumble Mouse, sounds lovely. We often have that with custard after a roast dinner.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/09/2021 16:07

My cooking site has just notified me of this weeks feature 'apple cake around the world' there are 35 varieties, all so lovely and different - but where to start?
Do I start with the most distant - a recipe from Australia? or the nearest or easiest first?

MissConductUS · 12/09/2021 16:22

I have thought about baking some cookies to send to DS at uni, but can't decide what kind he's really like. I made some snickerdoodles last weekend and sent them to DD. I know she received them, but no word back on how she liked them.

Champagne, it's really nerve-racking when they learn how to drive. I try not to think too much about DS having a car at uni.

My church has gone back to two services on Sunday, one at 8:30 and the other at 10:30. Over the summer it was just one service at 9:30. I like the earlier service, so this is good.

We have a wooden napkin holder for our dining room table that I bought at a craft fair. Dgirlcat has claimed it as cat furniture, and won't allow any napkins to be removed from it while she's using it. When I see her like this, I keep getting the picture of her in a prison cell.

That is a very cute napkin holder MissC Our rabbit would have so much fun with that taking napkins out one by one distributing them round the floors then shredding them then chewing the napkin holder if its wooden. He used to have similar fun with the post until we spoiled it with a wire post basket.

Dh is asleep again.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/09/2021 16:36

The cat fits bautifully into its catstand.

DS started cooking - this follows a very fixed regiement of activities and it is best for everyone if they keep out of the kitchen and the way from the kitchen to his room.

Gingerwarthog · 12/09/2021 17:43

Rhubarb sponge for pudding. DD and DH making schnitzel. Smile

Champagneforeveryone · 12/09/2021 19:26

Well it looks like we may have a winter let until Easter. This is simultaneously a weight off my mind and also a massive PITA as we will have to move twice in the space of six months

OhWhyNot · 12/09/2021 19:58

Just coloured my hair to cover the grey

Having to do this every other week. It’s just sections of my hair

Even when having my hair coloured at the hairdressers it fades very quickly

OhWhyNot · 12/09/2021 20:09

MissConductUS are you sure that isn’t cat furniture that you bought sold as a napkin holder

I’ve made this mistake many times

Lemonsandlemonade · 12/09/2021 21:11

My little boy had his first bottle tonight have gone almost 15 weeks EBF but I think my supply is decreasing a bit . My little man is growing up fast.

Have to decide by tomorrow about getting rid or keeping the frozen embryo we have in storage.
