Happy 21st to your DD tomorrow Prok

Hope your DD had a nice 12th birthday Helena

Silkiecat is on the bed with me. Dh has gone to his sick bed. Silkiecat has licked the rest of the Kellys Cornish cream ice cream and purred, lay on dh for a bit then now on his pillow with head flooped next to me.

MissConductUS · 09/09/2021 22:21

Welcome, @PilatesPeach, and thanks for sharing the news of your good fortune. What type of competition was it?

@Newbabynewhouse, six months is a handful? Is this your first?

I cleaned out a section of the garage for bulk pickup day next week. We're also going to put out the old stationary bike for pickup.

I had noticed that the seed level in the bird feeder wasn't dropping at the normal rate, so I took it apart and cleaned it. The sunflower seeds have a lot of oil, so the dust and shell pieces tend to clump up and block the flow of seeds into the feeding compartment. As I was washing my hands I looked out the window and saw a wren perch on it and leave with a sunflower seed, so I know it's working.

I can't quite believe that the 20th anniversary of 9/11 is Saturday. DS was just almost two and I was back at work in the city when it happened.

@PilatesPeach well done always nice to win something.

@Silkiescatz hope your husband is ok soon.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

@MissConductUS I wasn’t a teenager when 9/11 took place - I remember the shock of it.

@proke happy birthday to your DD.

Last night of holiday for us I feel quite sick which is unlike me , lovely holiday on whole. DS sleeping on front he starts night in back ( after a fight with me!) but try as I might it’s impossible for me to roll him back to sleep on his back. My anxiety is very high at present.

Silkiescatz · 09/09/2021 23:05

Glad you had a nice holiday Lemon Hope you feel better soon, its very common to be anxious with a baby. I found it easier once I was back at work so you have a distraction.

I was working in a finance firm in London on 9/11 and we had a sister firm in the World Trade Centre and 2 of the 4 of us in our office had just joined from there in June. All the sister firm got out but both the guys had several friends on higher floors die in it, quite a few were 26 year old girls from the 83rd floor who had been at university with the younger guy. He kept phoning the parents and after 3 days of no news they knew they were not coming home Sad

Silkiecat is exhausted.

I was in 6th form, I remember my then boyfriend texting me to tell me, he was training to be an airline pilot. It was a different world, we couldn’t all pick up our smartphones to watch it unfold, you had to be in front of a television.

@Lemonsandlemonade try to let some of those worries go. It’s not good for your physical health to carry too many. Have you got any rl support?

Silkiescatz · 10/09/2021 09:03

I saw about 9/11 first on the internet on computer and saw the very first Yahoo article which made it sound like a small plane and an accident and just said the pilot had died. I then saw the headline had turned red which was very odd as I had never seen a headline turn red. Then went for late lunch and checked again and it was very obvious it was something major then. At that stage whole firm was on internet checking and one grumpy director was complaining how can we make a profit if we just watch this all afternoon whilst my poor colleagues were trying to get news if their former colleagues and friends were still alive.

Mouse I saw your other thread about your Mum being in ITU with covid and am thinking of you all. Flowers I hope things improve for your Mum, and that you will all be better and out of isolation soon.

DH is sleeping again and will try to wfh a bit later. Silkiecat was sick on our bed, though she was very careful to be sick on DHs side, so bedding is in the wash and I have just spotted a flea. So much for the vets flea tablets which he said kill everything but the cat.

Champagneforeveryone · 10/09/2021 10:44

silkie, I believe it's normal to see fleas for a couple weeks after treatment, as new ones hatch and then get killed by the insecticide.

We won't go in to how I know this Hmm

Silkiescatz · 10/09/2021 11:41

Unfortunately its been 3 weeks since her flea treatment, we were away for 2 weeks and expecting it to be fine on return but Shock Trouble is rabbit had them as well, he has had flea treatment as well but think we need to do the fun cycle again of hoovering / washing everything and flea spraying everything. We have tried but its not been helped by a week of DH being half dead, DS being very difficult with school (missed half his lessons in y10) so I have 1,000 calls with schools and LA for ehcp and holiday washing. But next week will hopefully be flea destroying week.

Silkiescatz · 10/09/2021 16:26

Got a call from school re DD so flea killing week may be postponed once more though have washed our bedding and rugs and cleaned our room. Ds is home. Dh is half dead still, sleeping most of day. Dd is at another party.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/09/2021 16:47

Arrived home slightly damp because of a thunderstrom. But the air smells lovely!

I am happy to say that the bat is definitely out of my flat and I will now put nets over the window. To do this I will have to climb a ladder which I am not looking forward to.

Silkiecat is exhausted.

My colleague came in to my office and told me. It was at about 3pm and we turned on the radio I had on my desk and listened to the news. I then listened to the news for days. I remember walking up a hill with a friend (she's now dead, she went too young) and we sat at the top and cried. It seems like a world away.
Lemonsandlemonade · 10/09/2021 20:21

@HelenaJustina yes I have support I had thought about ringing doctor but my doctor doesn’t believe in mental health and is no help at all. The lovely doctor I could see is away until November. ( rural area with a practice of 2 doctors).

Feeling tired after holiday!

Silkiescatz · 10/09/2021 20:34

If you are in England Lemon you can self refer for counselling (you don't need a doctor to do it) through here www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-psychological-therapies-service/

Just having a cheese and pineapple hedgehog and pina coladas. DS is having hot dogs and DD ate at party.

Ordered DS new school shoes as he needs velcro ones and the last ones I ordered had laces.

Champagneforeveryone · 10/09/2021 20:59

I've just read a property listing that describes a small hallway as "a place to decant coats". I may start referring to my coat rack as the decanting area Grin

Silkiescatz · 10/09/2021 23:23

Dh improved a little today and just this minute got a negative on his test. He is quite Hmm why did you get my result and not me. But very happy its negative.

New bedding on, no Silkiecat as our room is now flea free. Sad

That's brilliant, ZZ, thanks. I see that his travels have yet to take him to New York. I plan on doing some apple picking this fall too. The same farm where we picked cherries and strawberries will have apples available soon.

Silkie, that's good news about the test. It really did not sound like covid to me. Try some OTC allergy meds and see if they help.

I'm feeling a bit maudlin about 9/11. I have so many memories of that day. When I was finally able to get the train home I got off at my station, and there on the platform was my parish priest, wearing her black clerical garb. She decided to go to the train station to be there for people coming out of the city, just in case they needed a hug or someone to talk to. She had baptized my son and was just a wonderful person. We hugged and I had a bit of a cry, just from the stress of it all. That was so typical of people doing the right thing that day.

Thanks Mouse So sorry to hear about your Mum and I hope you all are recovered from covid.

Thanks MissC We dont really know what it was but mainly wanted to be sure it wasnt covid. Dh does not have any allergies other than duck feathers he is aware of and half was in Devon, half here. He has had sinusitis a few months ago and symptoms now match that though initial systems were like a sick bug. He has the heaviest cold ever and sinus pain but is at least starting not to be permanently asleep. He is now reading a book so is returning to his usual self.

Dd has just been sleeping and woke up and went to cuddle Silkiecat.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 11/09/2021 03:09

9/11 is a very sad day. It's a landmark moment in many lives. Many people can remember where exactly they were.

Personally it was the day my ex showed me who he really was and I quit the relationship the following morning, due to his behaviour and demands. It was the quickest I could calmly walk away and not look back.

It was his sisters wedding we went into the church for 1pm and while we were in the church, the world imploded. We went to a pub before going to the reception not really grasping what had happened, thought that the barman was pulling our legs and that it was a disaster film on tv as no sound just pictures. I wish it had just been a film.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 11/09/2021 03:11

I've been doing an emergency clean tonight due to visitors on Saturday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing them as its been ages. Trying think what to make to eat 😀

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/09/2021 03:50

Just had a moment that yesterday 12 months ago I had my embryo transfer for my DS.

Silkiescatz · 11/09/2021 08:24

Talking to dh last night and he finally told me that a specialist doctor in France told him he needs surgery on his nose to prevent sinusitus but he says they are not going near his nose as they will just smash it and leave him in agony for 2 weeks.

Silkiecat woke up then went back to sleep.
