Bloody heatwave on its way again.

I heard a couple of days ago that we are going to be 'enjoying' sizzling temperatures of 30 degrees, for the second half of August. Enjoying FFS. I'm absolutely dreading it. When will these people get it into their heads that not everybody loves very hot weather?! I'm only just recovering from the last heatwave in July! I know I'm going to get called a killjoy, but seriously,I know there is an awful lot of people out there who agree with me. How do all you hot weather haters cope with 30 degrees plus heat?
(I'm in West London btw,not sure how the rest of the country is going to be afflicted affected).

@FedNlanders

I'm hoping it is wrong BUT the nights are closing in. Its now dark by 8.30. The autumn is well on the way heatwave or not!
Really?
squishymamma · 02/08/2021 16:35

@WildingFae

I'd love a daytime heatwave, as long as it promises to go down to under 14 degrees at night.
This! Heatwaves with small children are horrendous when trying to get them to sleep in a hot and clammy room...28 during the day and 14/15 from about 5pm would be great thanks Grin

We use fans, cool towels, go swimming in lakes/the sea (not sure if there's any near you), close our windows and blinds once it's hotter outside than inside...hope you manage to keep cool!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 02/08/2021 16:35

only when i am on holiday and can cool off in the sea!

I'm with you OP. Absolutely hate the heat.

Applesonthelawn · 02/08/2021 16:37

And have had every type of skin cancer too so have to stay out of the sun, which I actually pretty much always did anyway.

Blossomtoes · 02/08/2021 16:38

Please God you’re right 🙏 This has been an awful summer, especially in contrast to last year. I need some sun.

billiebeeme · 02/08/2021 16:48

I couldn't cope with the London temperatures, I wld have to invest in air con. I'm in Scotland though so usually mid to high 20's at most and isn't quite as warm overnight so bring it on 😄🌞

IrisAtwood · 02/08/2021 16:50

I have a chronic health condition that makes heat very difficult to cope with. The last heatwave I was in one room, windows and curtains closed and my Dyson fan on maximum.
Curtains and windows were opened once the outside was cooler than the inside.
I had a cool shower and without drying myself I slept on a towel in front of the fan. Fortunately the fan has a timer so it turned itself after three hours. I also had mouldable ice packs which I rested my feet on as for some reason my feet get really hot and uncomfortable.
I sat in the garden from about 6am until it started to get too warm again then straight into my dark room (see above).
I’ve just broken my ankle so I am even less able to get out and about!

Formaldeheidi · 02/08/2021 17:00

When you say the second half of August OP, when do you mean exactly?…asking for a friend Grin

Wannabegreenfingers · 02/08/2021 17:00

Sorry, but we have so much cold and wet. I for one will thoroughly embrace it.

edwinbear · 02/08/2021 17:06

It won't happen OP, I know this for a fact, because we'll be staying with the in laws in Cornwall then and it's the law, that whenever I'm on holiday in Cornwall, it lashes down for the entire duration. I've been with DH for 21 years and not once have we had a hot and sunny trip to visit the in laws Grin

Gertie75 · 02/08/2021 17:09

I don't want 30°again but mid 20s and dry would be nice, it's either blistering or cloudy and rainy this year.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 02/08/2021 17:14

Amazing news! I can’t wait for some heat and sunshine. Currently in sweatpants, socks, Ugg slippers, a long sleeved tee-shirt and a hoodie in bloody August!

Bring on the heat!

Exactly. I don't understand people who can't wait for miserable dark days and damp and grey skies.
VeeVeey2 · 02/08/2021 17:28

South London here. I feel much the same as you OP.

I'm a pale redhead in my third trimester of pregnancy, don't have a garden or outdoor space and the flat turns into a furnace when it's anything above 25 outside.

I don't cope well with hot weather at the best of times but really struggled this year.

We have a UK break booked for a week from 6th September so I can only hope it cools down enough for me to be able to enjoy it.

MeanderingGently · 02/08/2021 17:42

Can't stand the heat, I utterly hate it. I do believe that you're right, another heatwave forecast for the second half of August. I am dreading it, and I shall be working as well.

The heat builds in my flat and despite the portable air conditioners, it's hard to get it down again even when the night temperatures drop outside. It saps my strength and makes me feel sick, I think we've had a hot enough summer as it is. Never mind; winter is on its way....

Blossomtoes · 02/08/2021 18:00

I think we've had a hot enough summer as it is

What, all two weeks of it? The rest of it’s been cool, grey, wet and miserable.

LoveFall · 02/08/2021 18:06

I'm another one with a portable air con churning away in our bedroom. It is horribly noisy but it cools the room enough to sort of sleep. If I get too hot during the day I go in there to read. It does help.

We had something like 800 deaths here during the heat dome in late July.

We have to wake up and realize cooling is a priority like heating.

We would like to install a ductless mini split system in our condo but the rules currently prohibit it. Others are worried about noise and water from it. The modern ones are very quiet and do not leak water.

Our property manager said at our AGM last week that there was a heat related death that occurred in a condo where they had been denied permission for air con. It is apparently in front of the relevant Tribunal. The result will be interesting.

Some people were supportive at our meeting but one suggested we should go to a hotel when it is hot!

fussychica · 02/08/2021 18:07

Bring it on! I'm fed up with this bloody awful weather, even my garden is thoroughly fed up with it judging by the rain soaked and battered plants. Every time I think it might be good enough for a good day out it rains.
My personal order would be 24-28 degrees but I'll take any heat I can get.

ALongHardWinter · 02/08/2021 21:52

edwinbear I hope you're right! 😂

feb2022Grin at the thought of your tower fan blowing warm farts around the room!

RampantIvy · 02/08/2021 22:20

I'm in South Yorkshire we have no heatwave forecast here for the foreseeable future. Warmest temperature will be 22 degrees.

AmongUs · 02/08/2021 23:41

Not looking forward to another heatwave.
It drains my energy, makes me feel so lazy with not much of an appetite and my feet swell up and eczema flares up too. Will have to think about moving to a colder country if heatwaves become a regular feature in the summer here 😂

MercyBooth · 02/08/2021 23:44

In a one bedroom flat on the top floor Dreading this again. And yes air conditioning needs to be a priority like heating.

StCharlotte · 02/08/2021 23:51

Have a heart! 2021 has been near perfect for the hot weather haters.

I'm on my third week of annual leave since December 2019 and the weather has been shit for all of them. I'm in danger of getting rickets!

I have another week off at the end of the month and some sunshine would be so lovely, not least for the respective bridal parties of the two weddings I'll be attending.
