Bloody heatwave on its way again.

I heard a couple of days ago that we are going to be 'enjoying' sizzling temperatures of 30 degrees, for the second half of August. Enjoying FFS. I'm absolutely dreading it. When will these people get it into their heads that not everybody loves very hot weather?! I'm only just recovering from the last heatwave in July! I know I'm going to get called a killjoy, but seriously,I know there is an awful lot of people out there who agree with me. How do all you hot weather haters cope with 30 degrees plus heat?
(I'm in West London btw,not sure how the rest of the country is going to be afflicted affected).

I would love 23 degrees, but our temperatures over the next few weeks are forecast for 19/20 degrees. Not warm enough for shorts.

Aquagirl19 · 03/08/2021 08:51

I'm really hoping it's wrong as I can't stand the heat. Doesn't help that I'm overweight and massively self conscious so can't even cool down in a strappy vest top and shorts. That's my own fault though so hey. 30 degrees is just too hot. It's uncomfortable and not enjoyable in the slightest. I can't wait for Autumn!

Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2021 08:56

There's only 20 weeks until Christmas. Sad I would quite like a last blast of heat.

It is for me. I had bikini on yesterday. Wales.

idontunderstandbananas · 03/08/2021 09:04

I'm another one who enjoys the cooler temps. Bring on Autumn!!

Puffalicious · 03/08/2021 09:16

Where on Earth are all these people who are saying it's geenna rubbish Sumner?! I'm in Scotland and it's been awesome- sunny, warm (super hot some days but no more than 25) dry with only a few days of very wet weather. Holidays in Northumberland were dry and 18-21 degrees, fine, and now in Lancashire where it's 19-20. I've done more wild swimming this summer than any year. What the hell more do people want?!

ExtremelyDisorganised · 03/08/2021 09:19

19/20 degrees is definitely warm enough for shorts for me, I wear them for anything above about 15.

I don't feel like we've had much really good weather but wondering if I didn't really notice all that much if I was at work. We had a blistering week two weeks ago (30 degrees) but since then it's been sunshine and showers. There was thunder and flash flooding here yesterday.
Coogee · 03/08/2021 09:20

Further south it has been much wetter. So, less rain would be a good start.

Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2021 09:20

19/20 would be jeans and cardi weather for me. Grin

I agree. I was out driving in the monsoon yesterday and it was terrifying.

This. Apart from a couple of hot weeks, it’s been rubbish here.
ActonSquirrel · 03/08/2021 09:26

I also don't understand what people want and more importantly what they propose to do about it.

Summers are not hotter than they used to be. 2003 anyone?

It's always the way in this country generally a shit summer with a couple of weeks of unbearable heat. I don't ever remember it being any different right from childhood.

People starting arguments with strangers and moaning as if it will stop it happening. Go to the shore and ask the tide to stop coming in and see how far you get.

It's gonna happen, you don't like it, I do. You love freezing dark miserable winter and I don't.

That's life

Ooh no, I haven't worn either for weeks now.
whenwillthemadnessend · 03/08/2021 09:28

Heatwaves in august arnt so bad as the sunsets so much quicker so nights are more comfortable. June ones are hideous

whoslaughingnow73 · 03/08/2021 09:29

I don't like it hot so I hope not. Give me a sunny day at a max of 20 degrees and I'm happy!

I can live with it hotter as long as it's cool at night. At least with it getting dark earlier even if it is really hot the nights shouldn't be as bad as if it was hot in May or June (like it has been in previous years, like the horrendous 3 months of it in 2018 when I was heavily pregnant!).

But I'm ready for autumn here, I love autumn and winter.

Cantbebotheredtothinkofaname · 03/08/2021 11:06

I really hope it’s not true as I’m nearly 8 months pregnant and really struggled with the last one 😫 must stock up on some ice lollies and pray baby doesn’t come early so I don’t have to endure the postnatal ward in this heat!

I think that's the issue: up here we're used to much, much more rain and it doesn't phase me. This year has been brilliant here: hot, hot spells and very dry and pleasant almost all of the time. We didn't get your monsoons and it remains around 20 and just lovely. I am so tanned, much more so than in the last 10 years I think.

Saying all this I love Autumn and Winter - I think I just like having distinct seasons.

I hope everyone finds a happy medium wherever you are. Lancashire is sunny and warm 😎

It has been an awful summer here.

The coldest and wettest May in a long time. A week or so of hot weather.

Lots of rain last week, including a huge bloody storm.

I would like summer to be consistently hot and sunny with temperatures between 24-28c preferably. I know I am asking too much living in the UK, but that is what I would like.

I like sitting outside reading in the sun (when im not working) and evenings in the garden- 21c is not warm enough for me to enjoy that, but I am very cold blooded.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 03/08/2021 19:04

I would like sunshine, low humidity, a few fluffy white clouds, a light breeze and 18-22°C every day with heavy rain overnight twice a week for the garden.

Oblomov21 · 03/08/2021 19:27

I hadn't heard this. Blimey!

DrCoconut · 03/08/2021 19:38

18C and drizzling here. Rubbish for summer holidays. More cold and wet predicted for the weekend 😫

Jellybean81 · 03/08/2021 19:42

I was 9 months pregnant for the most recent heatwave (baby is here now safe and sound) and the tip I found most helpful was to sleep with a damp muslin as a cover. Worked amazingly well to keep me cool. Now have a newborn to keep cool, any tips?

Years ago now (he's 22) but the summer DS was born was a scorcher. I was soo worried, I had a thermometer in the nursery and it was off the scale. But he just slept in a nappy/vest with no cover and seemed fine, I on the other hand was just a sweaty mess. And I remember peeling his head from my sweaty boob after a feed. Sad

Just in time for the Scottish Schools going back.
