Bloody heatwave on its way again.

I heard a couple of days ago that we are going to be 'enjoying' sizzling temperatures of 30 degrees,for the second half of August. Enjoying FFS. I'm absolutely dreading it. When will these people get it into their heads that not everybody loves very hot weather?! I'm only just recovering from the last heatwave in July! I know I'm going to get called a killjoy,but seriously,I know there is an awful lot of people out there who agree with me. How do all you hot weather haters cope with 30 degrees plus heat?
(I'm in West London btw,not sure how the rest of the country is going to be afflicted affected).

[quote NotMyCat]@isthismylifenow it's one of these, reflects body heat. If I move it, he lies on a fluffy blanket Confused

Ooh I need to see if I can find these here. My doggo will love this. In the winter that is. She wears a jersey at night. I think my other dog (who is not a fan of a jersey) tries to get it off her in the night. Poor pooch looks quite disheveled some mornings after a rough night.

Crunchymum · 02/08/2021 16:07

We are away for a week in Mod August (by the sea!) so I hope it is that week. Otherwise it can piss right off.

Crunchymum · 02/08/2021 16:08

mod = mid

As it's absolutely pissing it down at the moment I'd give anything for a bit of sun.

ActonSquirrel · 02/08/2021 16:09

Yay!

Office has air conditioning. So does my gym.

Hot water bottle filled with water and ice and frozen during the day to take to bed at night.

Holothane · 02/08/2021 16:10

Oh please no just no.

marymotherofdog · 02/08/2021 16:11

I hate the hot weather too.

Musication · 02/08/2021 16:11

Well I hope this is true. I cannot bear this drizzle and cold in August. I love wearing flip flops, I love the washing drying fast, I love my kids to be outdoors at parks and gardens without getting rained on or excessively muddy.
Mumsnet is full of sun haters so you'll be in good company but I'm not one of them!!

Being very pregnant in a heatwave and living in a house that got hotter than hell, is something I still remember over 30 years on. Ghastly.

I go to pieces in anything over 68 degrees. I have a condition that messes with the autonomic system so it doesn’t take much in terms of it being hot or cold to feel horrible. In heat I’m sweating so much I look like I’ve got out the shower. I feel sick and weak and can’t think straight. In cold weather my nails go blue, I’m a shivery wreck and also feel sick. But at least in the cold you can pile loads of clothes on and crank up the heating. Short of removing your skin there are limited options in heat. I absolutely dread the thought of heatwaves. Praying they’re wrong.

notagermannoun · 02/08/2021 16:16

Is it really dark now in England at 8.30?

In Ireland - the north - we're just seeing twilight at about 9.50, 10.00.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 02/08/2021 16:17

Oh, I do hope not, 18-22C is ideal for me for me, shorts and teeshirt weather but not overheating.

isthismylifenow · 02/08/2021 16:17

@SamVimes6

Bring it on

It’s summer, it’s meant to be hot

@isthismylifenow I remember reading a lovely thread a few years ago about how winter evenings were all scented candles, stew and dumplings, lamps on curtains closed, evenings spent in pyjamas etc.

There’s plenty to enjoy in autumn and winter, but let’s get summer over with first.

Thank you, I shall see if I can find it.

I'm fed up of stews and curries and having to light the fire. I do like a candle though. And hot chocolate, my waist line can attest for this.

I had to get up to a morning of minus 8 last week. We only have a fire in the lounge. It was all OK in bed as I had the electric blanket on all night. I wasn't overly chuffed about having to get out of it however.

I live in Africa! We don't do minus 8 well.

Also quite extreme like you are experiencing.

I also do not trust a weather forecaster though. I'm OK with a 2 or 3 day forecast, but 2 weeks in advance.. I am going to go with you'll have lovely mid 20s and all the leftover BBQ stocks, fans and ice cube trays will be sold out in advance.

Fairyliz · 02/08/2021 16:17

Since I retired I have been an avid weather watcher and I would say about 70 % of the time it’s wrong if you look about two days in advance.
So I’m not sure how they can predict the weather two weeks in advance.

Livpool · 02/08/2021 16:17

Good - I can't wait! We had a week of lovely weather and everyone moaned and now it is cool again and raining on and off.

We only have 3 weeks of nice weather in this country- I can't understand why people hate it so much

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 02/08/2021 16:18

@isthismylifenow
Thank you 🙂
I honestly thought by getting in the sea it would help . Clearly not and I shall stay out of my pool in the next couple weeks
Thanks for the advice , I’ll take all that’s given at the moment. My skin at the moment is horrible and I’m scratching and in pain , antihistamine has been recommended, it is helping x

skippy67 · 02/08/2021 16:18

Really hope we get another blast of heat. It's been a crap summer weatherwise so far.

SixesAndEights · 02/08/2021 16:19

@notagermannoun

No, not where I live, dark about 9.30ish.
Sitchervice · 02/08/2021 16:20

Not again!! My flat became a death trap to my baby. I couldn't get it cool what ever I did! Ended up going down to the coast. 😩

TheDogsMother · 02/08/2021 16:20

I do hope so, I'm back in a jumper and jeans today.

Jasmine11 · 02/08/2021 16:21

@FedNlanders

I'm hoping it is wrong BUT the nights are closing in. Its now dark by 8.30. The autumn is well on the way heatwave or not!
This makes me so happy, I love autumn :)
Feedingthebirds1 · 02/08/2021 16:22

If OP read this in the Daily Express, don't get too upset/happy just yet. They're the absolute masters of bbq summers and blizzard winters that don't happen .

Earthling2000 · 02/08/2021 16:23

Livpool. I’m happy for all the people who like it especially if they’re on holiday but for me my body just can’t handle it which is why I dread the thought of a heatwave. I’d love to like hot weather but the sweat literally drips off me, I feel nauseous, weak and exhausted and get palpitations. I can’t even think straight. Its more normal to love hot weather but not everyone is a fan (if you’ll pardon the pun).

feb2022 · 02/08/2021 16:27

@ALongHardWinter ohhh god!
I suffered and my toddlers were just miserable sweaty tantrum machines no matter how many ice lollies they had, and they really struggled to eat it was grim for us all... and I have a tower fan and it just seems to blow warm farts around the room instead of actually cooling it down 🥵
I used to be a sun worshipper... but not anymore!
Can't wait for the crisp autumn mornings now 🍂

LoveFall · 02/08/2021 16:28

I am so with all the heat hayers. It is being relentless in Vancouver. It is not quite 8:30 am here and it is already 23C. It has only been going down to the high teens at night so it just doesn't cool down in our apartment.

It feels like a siege and is exhausting. It will go to high 20s or 30s every day for the next week according to forecast.

But it is not even sunny. Haze mixed with wildfire smoke. No rain since early June.

Argh.

I hope your heat wave does its thing then skidaddles quickly for you.

ConradKnightSocks · 02/08/2021 16:30

I hear ya! I ordered a handheld fan a few weeks ago that also sprays water. DH has been informed that that's his job when I'm in labour. Good luck!

I had no idea such a thing existed! Sounds absolute genius! Thanks for the tip!

Good luck to you too!
