Bloody heatwave on its way again.

I heard a couple of days ago that we are going to be 'enjoying' sizzling temperatures of 30 degrees, for the second half of August. Enjoying FFS. I'm absolutely dreading it. When will these people get it into their heads that not everybody loves very hot weather?! I'm only just recovering from the last heatwave in July! I know I'm going to get called a killjoy, but seriously,I know there is an awful lot of people out there who agree with me. How do all you hot weather haters cope with 30 degrees plus heat?
(I'm in West London btw,not sure how the rest of the country is going to be afflicted affected).

Hate it… am menopausal and my HRT ( just about) contains my hot flashes, if I have fans on in living room and bedroom and A/C on in the car. Any spike in heat, either by the weather or over-heated buildings and I’m a sweaty mess. It also makes me panicky like I must get somewhere cool immediately, it’s horrible. I am off work from 20th so hope it’s then, so I can stay in with my fan next to me!

MyDcAreMarvel · 02/08/2021 15:21

Thank goodness for that , it’s summer it’s meant to be hot!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 02/08/2021 15:22

I hate it. Every single minute.

Dreading it!! Hugely heavily pregnant right now with baby due middle of August! The thought of either being in labour or overdue in the middle of a heatwave is fucking awful!! 😭 Plus being on the already furnace-like postnatal ward 😭😭

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 02/08/2021 15:25

Hope so, we haven’t had that much hot weather and it will be nice to have some more before autumn hits and we have to have the heating back on. I

Same! I understand it's hard for some though and whilst I like it hot and sunny, a mid-20's summer would be lovely for the majority.
HaveANiceFuckingDay · 02/08/2021 15:28

I’m still burnt and have blisters and flaking skin from the last one a few weeks back , despite using factor 50. We went out for the day and fell asleep on the beach . I only fell asleep for a little over an hour and nearly a week later developed blisters I needed to see the G.P .
I went in the sea to cool down I think it made it worse
I shall spend the few days this next heatwave cooling in the pool completely submerged or indoors l I shan’t be laying out in it for sure

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 02/08/2021 15:28

I certainly don't want a heatwave but it would be nice if it stopped raining.

Tlollj · 02/08/2021 15:31

Just stop raining would be good.
Thirty is too hot for me. Low twenties bit of sun and a nice cool breeze. Surely that’s not too much to ask?

ButcherBaker · 02/08/2021 15:32

Bring it on.

It’s summer, it’s meant to be hot!

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 02/08/2021 15:34

I walked past a garden today and I don't know what was in it but I got a wiff of September! Omg it was gorgeous! I can't wait!

@ALongHardWinter

Yes,at least when it's cold you can warm up by putting extra clothes on and putting the heating on. But what can you do when it's hot to cool down? There's only so many clothes you can take off (when you're outside in public,I mean). And I feel so sorry for my poor cat. I'm sure she holds me responsible for the heat! She just flops around, trying to find a cool spot.
I have dogs, so not sure if this applies to a cat (in doubting it actually), but if you wet a towel and lay it on a tiled floor, the dogs lie on that. Or just on the tiles as they are much cooler. Or you can dip the cats feet in water, they cool down through their feet. I mean you may need to have your winter coat and gloves on to do this to avoid scratches but she/he will forgive you afterwards.... 😀 (hopefully). But in seriousness animals will find the coolest spot to lay. I don't walk my dogs when it's hot, the same does apply if it's too hot to go for a walk, it's too hot for them too. I do see here a lot how people take their dogs out during the heat of the day. We don't. All they want to do it lay about and be cool. If you cannot walk out barefooted, then neither should a dog imo. And I freeze bones for them. It's like a canine ice cream.

But yes, our animals are a lot more accustomed, so I feel for your cat, and you because it is all your fault of course.... 😋

Yippee! Where have you read this? I got back from holiday at the weekend and have been thoroughly depressed by the weather ever since.

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2021 15:36

Bring it on
We forked out £500 for a portable air con unit which arrived the day the weather turned cold again so it would be nice to get some use out of it

the80sweregreat · 02/08/2021 15:37

I am dreading it and we are away at the end of august too! Lots of sun cream might be needed and I know I'll moan .. ( I burn too if I'm not very careful )

MadisonAvenue · 02/08/2021 15:40

I’m really hoping this doesn’t happen, I hate heat.

I hear ya! I ordered a handheld fan a few weeks ago that also sprays water. DH has been informed that that's his job when I'm in labour. Good luck!
H1978 · 02/08/2021 15:41

Not a huge fan of hot British summer days but going to Scotland for a week on the 15th so fingers crossed for good weather. Nothing worse than spending the day in a hotel room with the kids complaining of being bored.

user16395699 · 02/08/2021 15:42

I have serious health conditions that mean I risk ending up in hospital every time there is a heatwave. It's shit and I hate it.

Why does it either have to be a heatwave or bloody freezing? Why can't we have a happy medium of 20-25 degrees and clear blue skies with a few white clouds? I got so grouchy during the July heatwave as I just can't deal with it these days

userxx · 02/08/2021 15:42

Cant wait!!! Will dig the fan back out of the loft.

Not so hot that people die. Hmm
NotMyCat · 02/08/2021 15:43

@isthismylifenow mine lies on a self heating mat, whining he's too hot. He hasn't read the cat handbook about finding a cool spot so just screams at me all day like it's my fault Hmm

You burn through water, if you are burnt to blister stage, please don't lay in the water in the sun. Even though you feel cool, doesn't mean you aren't burning. Even in the shade. And if there is some wind. Just quick dips in and out and then to undercover area. And no to putting a t shirt on and getting in the water thinking it's protecting you.

I am a freckly redhead living in Africa. I know about sunburn and blisters. Lotion lotion lotion. Keep hydrated.if you get to the itchy prickly stage, take some anti histamine.

I had a touch of ptsd reading your post. Hope I don't come across bossy... 😀 Just concern.
