Bloody heatwave on its way again.

I heard a couple of days ago that we are going to be 'enjoying' sizzling temperatures of 30 degrees, for the second half of August. Enjoying FFS. I'm absolutely dreading it. When will these people get it into their heads that not everybody loves very hot weather?! I'm only just recovering from the last heatwave in July! I know I'm going to get called a killjoy, but seriously,I know there is an awful lot of people out there who agree with me. How do all you hot weather haters cope with 30 degrees plus heat?
(I'm in West London btw,not sure how the rest of the country is going to be afflicted affected).

@Hoppinggreen

Bring it on We forked out £500 for a portable air con unit which arrived the day the weather turned cold again so it would be nice to get some use out of it
Ah so the weather change was all your fault then....
the80sweregreat · 02/08/2021 15:46

It is either miserable or too hot !
No 'in between ' is there ?

I don't mind it being warm and sunny but I prefer cooler days. I hate it when it's too hot (26°C + ) because it's so uncomfortable which makes it difficult to sleep or do anything useful.

We have thermal blackout curtains and keep them closed during the day in summer and only open the windows at night to allow the air to move through. We sleep with a fan blowing over us and when it was boiling in July I took the ice-pack to bed with me! We live on sandwiches, salads, ice-creams and lemonade when it's too hot; actually cooking anything in that heat is just not worth the hassle.

morningteaisthebest · 02/08/2021 15:47

I'm the same OP. I get through it bit by bit and focus on getting through with lots of cold drinks and frozen fruits.

I also focus on other people and try to feel happy for them. Lots of people really enjoy hot weather. A huge chunk of the UK population live in poverty and can't afford heating - I try to live vicariously thinking of them being happier when their houses are warm.

TokyoSushi · 02/08/2021 15:48

Not a massive fan either but we're camping the last week of August and it would make things much easier!

VanGoghsDog · 02/08/2021 15:48

When will these people get it into their heads that not everybody loves very hot weather?

Even if they did, it wouldn't actually change the weather.

I don't like it but I'm not upset by other people liking it or saying it's great.

I cope by staying in, keeping curtains shut, using fans, water sprays, cooling spray, wafty linen clothes and a cool mat for in bed.

Swisslady · 02/08/2021 15:49

You’re not BU - London heat is muggy.

Meruem · 02/08/2021 15:49

I cope by having 2 things. Portable air con in my bedroom and a large paddling pool in my garden! I lie in the pool and then relax on my swing seat which is under a big tree. It actually makes the hot weather feel pleasant. Of course that’s no good for people who don’t have a garden. Although if I didn’t have one I’d probably lie in a cool bath instead! Minimal housework and cooking. I don’t care if things get messy, I can catch up when it’s cooler again.

TabithaTiger · 02/08/2021 15:49

I'm with you Op, and yy to the poster who said 18 degrees is their optimum temperature. I spent most of the last heatwave indoors with the curtains shut and the fan on (I'm lucky in that I work from home). My poor dog is so miserable as he can't get cool and can't even go for a walk until late at night. My garden is south facing with no shade so far too hot to sit out after 11am.

I can't wait until the Autumn. Looking forward to the cooler weather and darker evenings!

isthismylifenow · 02/08/2021 15:50
@isthismylifenow mine lies on a self heating mat, whining he's too hot. He hasn't read the cat handbook about finding a cool spot so just screams at me all day like it's my fault Hmm
What would the outcome be if the self heating mat should disappear for a week or so? You're in trouble anyway....

And what is this self heating mat?? I think I need one!

Barton10 · 02/08/2021 15:51

I hope so I love the heat, we get so few days of hot weather its lovely for a change

actiongirl1978 · 02/08/2021 15:53

We were camping in our caravan for the last heatwave. It was vile.

I did think I quite like a bit of summer murk and drizzle this morning.

But, I reckon we need a bit of sun to get us through autumn, I prefer Sept heat, August heat is muggy.

DahliaMacNamara · 02/08/2021 15:54

At least there's less daylight in the second half of August, meaning less time for the sun to force itself indoors to warm everything up.

MrsMiddleMother · 02/08/2021 15:55

I am usually a heat hater, however I'd quite welcome a heat wave in August than june/July. No school, we have UK holidays booked can always get up earlier and make the most of the mornings. Hopefully it'll be over by the time kids are back to school.

megletthesecond · 02/08/2021 15:56

I'd be fine with a heatwave. Although I know it's rubbish for a lot of people.
It's 18° where I am and I'm layered up. It would be nice to have a bit of energy and warmth.

NotMyCat · 02/08/2021 15:58

@isthismylifenow it's one of these, reflects body heat. If I move it, he lies on a fluffy blanket Confused

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/08/2021 16:00

What a bunch of moaners. I love the warmer weather. 28-30’ is my ideal temperature.

We get months and months of bastard cold damp weather. Let me have a few days of warmth.

warmandtoasty2day · 02/08/2021 16:00

doubt very much it's going to be in the 30's somehow. strange how these 'heatwaves' also seem to appear when retail are clearing out out stock of clothles, garden furniture, then it lasts two days at a lower temperature than predicted. I'm such a cynic Smile

the80sweregreat · 02/08/2021 16:00

It'll be that horrid august humid weather too I bet :(

spiderlight · 02/08/2021 16:01

Oh no :( I hate the heat so much. It makes me physically ill, but I get called a killjoy if I moan about it.

shumway · 02/08/2021 16:01

Please no.

the80sweregreat · 02/08/2021 16:02

Me too! The hot weather lovers all gang up on me :(
TheOrigRights · 02/08/2021 16:05

We have our holiday booked from 22nd Aug to 5th Sept and would really love it not to rain and be really warm.

Please.

SamVimes6 · 02/08/2021 16:06

Bring it on

It’s summer, it’s meant to be hot

@isthismylifenow I remember reading a lovely thread a few years ago about how winter evenings were all scented candles, stew and dumplings, lamps on curtains closed, evenings spent in pyjamas etc.

There’s plenty to enjoy in autumn and winter, but let’s get summer over with first.
