What things do you only have at Christmas and not through the year and why?

For example I only ever buy pate at Christmas. I love it. Its readily available all year yet until today have never purchased any time other than Christmas

I get that some things you generally only get around Xmas but I mean things that are in shops all year but wouldn't normally buy.

Currently working my way through a tonne of pate and ritz.

Baileys. I buy a bottle at the start of December every year, very rarely/ never drink it at other times.

WimpoleHat · 24/07/2021 22:50

Panettone (but only because they don’t sell it all year round!)

sunshineandshowers40 · 24/07/2021 22:51

Baileys. Only drink baileys in December! 🤷🏽‍♀️

Oh and as for why, I don't know really! I used to drink it more often but now usually stick with wine. In my head it's like an alcoholic dessert rather than a drink and a bit of an indulgence.

TheGriffle · 24/07/2021 22:52

Also pate for me. Love, love, love pate on toast, never have it any other time of year. Also cheese and crackers. Every Christmas we have cheese, crackers, pickled onions, gherkins, chutneys then come January none for the rest of the year.

Also twiglets and cheeslets I only buy at Christmas time.

pinkheather · 24/07/2021 22:52

Camembert, baileys, Brussel sprouts

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 24/07/2021 22:52

Another for me is hot choc.?? I only buy at Halloween and Xmas? Why? I have no idea!

After Eight mints, they just scream. Christmas to me.

MiaAnnabell3 · 24/07/2021 22:53

Snowballs!!

Not even sure if they're available year around, but I wouldn't drink them at any other time.

Janedownourlane · 24/07/2021 22:54

Pickled walnuts! Expensive, everyone else hates them! Don't really know why I like them but I do Smile

Omg I'm going to have the rest of the pate on toast for breakfast! I've only ever had on crackers.

Cheese and crackers I have all the time.

Onlinedilema · 24/07/2021 22:54

Yes to Brussel sprouts too.

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 24/07/2021 22:56

We have Brussels all the time. Although when out of season we make do with frozen ones. They're my dcs favourite veg.

Pickled onions, mint jelly, after eight mints.

You do know it’s not Christmas now though right so why are you eating pate?? 😂

RumJerrySailorRum · 24/07/2021 22:58

Quality Street.
Never have them at any other time of the year.

I'll have celebrations etc, but not QS.

Highfive2021 · 24/07/2021 22:59

As a kid there were loads of things, I only found out a few years ago you can get chocolate oranges all year round, I thought they were seasonal like Easter eggs! 😂

We tend to have party food that we wouldn’t have the rest of the year.

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 24/07/2021 23:02

Haha I'm eating it because I saw it in tesco and thought bloody hell why not, go wild! Haha.
Even dh was like does it have enough date for Xmas why did u buy it now?
(Its not uncommon for me to start buying the Xmas chocs and goodies as soon as they hit the shelves in August ish time)

Panettone, mince pies, Christmas pudding, stuffing, stollen, sausage rolls (and Christmas threads outside of the Christmas board).

Clevs · 24/07/2021 23:05

Mum's homemade Scotch eggs.
Mum's chocolate log.
Dad's pickled onions.
Mum's pickled eggs.
Matchmakers,
Dried fruit/nuts in bowls on the coffee table.
A bowl of Quality Street/Celebrations on the coffee table.
Baileys cream.
A freezer full of buffet food.

groundcontroltomontydon · 24/07/2021 23:06

Bread sauce. Why only Christmas? It's horrible.

Ninkanink · 24/07/2021 23:09

Bailey’s. I enjoy a glass or two every evening in December but don’t have it any other time.

KurtWilde · 24/07/2021 23:12

Baileys for me, too. Also Camembert.

thefourgp · 24/07/2021 23:16

My mum would only buy butter at Christmas growing up (the rest of the year we had cheap margarine) and now that my sister and I are adults we buy butter all year round. My mum’s even started buying butter all year round now too.

KingdomScrolls · 24/07/2021 23:18

Roast turkey, because I'd rather have any other roast. We dint always have Turkey anymore but do if we're hosting lots of others, people expect it. Also chestnuts and chestnut purée, delicious, but only ever buy them in December.
