What things do you only have at Christmas and not through the year and why?

For example I only ever buy pate at Christmas. I love it. Its readily available all year yet until today have never purchased any time other than Christmas

I get that some things you generally only get around Xmas but I mean things that are in shops all year but wouldn't normally buy.

Currently working my way through a tonne of pate and ritz.

Ha! I eat pate often - it’s lovely.

I only eat a pork pie on Christmas Day (for breakfast with a glass of champagne). Never any other day of the year. It’s tradition.

Ninkanink · 24/07/2021 23:19

Tbf we don’t have roast turkey any other time of year either. Nor goose.

NuffSaidSam · 24/07/2021 23:22

Camembert
Mulled wine
Celebrations/Heroes
Peanuts
Red cabbage
Bread sauce
Chocolate gateau
Naice crackers/cheese

Why? Because it's nice to keep some things for special I think.

I always thought as a kid Terry's choc orange was only available at Xmas too. Same with Toblerone.

@Janedownourlane MIL’s just given us a jar of homemade pickled walnuts, said it was easy to do…

LouLou198 · 24/07/2021 23:27

Bailey's, cheese, pate, & Pringles.

Lotsachocolateplease · 24/07/2021 23:29

@Janedownourlane

Pickled walnuts! Expensive, everyone else hates them! Don't really know why I like them but I do Smile
Mum? Is that you?
StillWeRise · 24/07/2021 23:30

sherry
christmas cake ( but it lasts a month or so)
christmas pudding

DSGBT · 24/07/2021 23:30

After Eights, brandy snaps and Quality Street!

Mrgrinch · 24/07/2021 23:31

Turkey for me. I don't think I eat turkey in any way, shape or form all year other than on my Christmas dinner. I also don't eat leftover turkey.

ShaunaTheSheep · 24/07/2021 23:32

Ready to bake croissants
Trifle
Chutney
Marzipan

Ninkanink · 24/07/2021 23:34

Oh yes I also always have After Eights at Christmas and don’t have them any other time. They remind me of my childhood Christmases.🎄

Boxing Day bubble & Squeak

Miliao · 24/07/2021 23:38

Port

OldTinHat · 24/07/2021 23:40

A roast with all the trimmings - because I live alone so not worth doing any other time but love spoiling my family when I see them.

Mintjulia · 24/07/2021 23:41

Smoked salmon & scrambled eggs on toast. Too costly and time consuming the rest of the year.

And chocolate - too fattening to eat all the time.

quizqueen · 24/07/2021 23:46

Pringles- could eat tube in one sitting. hence only have them at Christmas.

gogohm · 24/07/2021 23:46

Crackers, of the pulling kind, whole Turkey but can't think of anything else

How is smoked salmon and scrambled egg on toast too time consuming?!
LittleBoxes · 24/07/2021 23:48

Cheese with fruit in. And Stilton, come to think of it.

TorySteller · 24/07/2021 23:48

Baileys for me too. Love it at Christmas but the thought of drinking one now makes me feel a bit ill Grin

Linnet · 24/07/2021 23:48

Baileys, Southern Comfort, Terry’s chocolate orange, After eight mints, pigs in blankets, stuffing, turkey, Brussels sprouts, stollen, panettone, trifle, a Cooked breakfast we actually have this on New Year’s Day but it’s the only day of the year we have it.

GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine · 24/07/2021 23:49

Turkey

Brussels sprouts (I don't like them but will eat the odd few at christmas).

Mince pies, which I love.

I drink baileys year round, it's a simple thing that I can enjoy. But I only ever mix it with hot chocolate at christmas.

Kljnmw3459 · 24/07/2021 23:51

Gravad lax.
No idea why, we all love it, it's super easy to do and yet I only ever do it at Christmas time
