What things do you only have at Christmas and not through the year and why?

For example I only ever buy pate at Christmas. I love it. Its readily available all year yet until today have never purchased any time other than Christmas

I get that some things you generally only get around Xmas but I mean things that are in shops all year but wouldn't normally buy.

Currently working my way through a tonne of pate and ritz.

I don't know if they still make them but jellies called York Fruits.

GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine · 24/07/2021 23:52

Also yes to port. Never have it unless it's Christmas.

LoveFall · 24/07/2021 23:55

Chocolates. We very, very rarely have any chocolates other than at Christmas.

I'm not sure why but my parents were very strict about chocolate and sweets. We could only have them for a treat on Saturday night, after which we immediately brushed our teeth.

Port for port and lemon. In a tall glass with lots of ice it’s a favourite Christmas only drink in my family.

olidora63 · 25/07/2021 00:13

Vol au vents….loads of different fillings! Yes I know very outdated but my family just love them on Christmas Day at supper time 😋

My favourite ever from when I lived in France. Where do you buy it from? It's been in Lidl recently.
Ledgeofglory · 25/07/2021 00:16

After eights
Brussels sprouts.

thatonesmine · 25/07/2021 00:31

@EllaNW3
Lidl! They have it in from time to time and we pounce. As well as being gorgeous I love that it's relatively low alcohol so you can drink it all day without getting completely steaming Grin

StellaVirgin · 25/07/2021 00:31

Sprouts - cos they're vile!

Baileys for us too, also matchmakers, Pringles, uncracked nuts and champagne. Most things we have year round these days, but growing up we only had pate and smoked salmon at Christmas.

Onlinedilema · 25/07/2021 07:59

Bucks Fizz.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/07/2021 08:04

Sherry. I always buy a nice Amontillado in December - it goes with playing favourite carols on YouTube, but I don’t drink it other than in (the deep) midwinter. I don’t play carols before December either.

newnortherner111 · 25/07/2021 08:04

Mince pies. Also alcohol at home- living alone I feel that drinking should be part of a social activity.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 25/07/2021 08:09

smoked salmon
bread sauce - although tempted to have it with every roast, - why not?
