What's your Freedom Day looking like?

Mine isn't turning out to be very 'free' - trying to work from home again in 30 degree heat with two self-isolating primary age children whose school term finishes next Friday 😩

Sports massage in the morning followed by the supermarket shop - I’ll wear a mask in the shop, and be led by the therapist for my massage.

Vets for the puppy’s jabs in the afternoon, I’ll be led by them on the mask issue there too.

I am sort of hoping not to have to wear a mask to collect DS from school from now on though, given that it’s all outdoors and socially distanced. It feels a bit pointless as we all tear them off as soon as we get out of the school gates anyway. But I haven’t heard either way about that.

Kljnmw3459 · 18/07/2021 20:14

Working from home with a 3 year old. It's one of the busiest times of the year for us so I won't have time to enjoy any of the freedom Boris is promising us

Kljnmw3459 · 18/07/2021 20:15

I also have a huge spot on my face which is giving me extra motivation to wear a mask at the shop.

@Evidencebased can you book several weeks in advance for supermarket delivery? I've been able to book up until August 12th. I'm also CEV and hadn't realised about the priority delivery slots ending although of course they will.

Titsywoo · 18/07/2021 20:23

Nothing too interesting. DS is self isolating and me, DH and DD will be going to the office to work in the morning. Supposed to be having people over next Saturday but they are starting to drop out due to isolations so not sure how that will go!

Wimpeyspread · 18/07/2021 20:36

Mostly spent on trains, with a lunch out in Scotland, so no change really

33goingon64 · 18/07/2021 20:36

Getting a PCR test as I have developed a heavy cold in the last 24 hours and want to know if I and my family need to isolate. Also will be in unpicking all the bookings we made to go to France on holiday in 2 weeks. Covid is still very much around. I feel for CEV people like my Mum who had been enjoying going out a bit more and now won't because they won't feel safe.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 18/07/2021 20:36

Waving dh and eldest 4 dcs off for a week in Great Yarmouth, dc5, and dc6 still have 3 days left at school and I will be at home with dc7 and dc8(who is refusing to sleep so will be tired and grumpy)

Travis1 · 18/07/2021 20:40

I’m really surprised at the number of folk happy to ditch masks. No ‘freedom day’ here in Scotland and I’m quite relieved at that for the moment.

I'm keeping mine for the moment - will wait to see what happens. I'm double jabbed but not sure that is going to help much against the delta variant!
Evidencebased · 18/07/2021 20:50

Thank you @FlatteredFool I've had an email telling me my slot every two weeks is ending, and hope that I can keep booking ahead. Availability v different in different areas- I can get a slot online for a relative at a time of their choosing within 48hrs. Whereas here, there was a five week no availability at the start.I expect I'm being feeble, but this gives me a certain anxiety. I don't mind running out of bread/tea/milk , it's the uncertainty of not knowing when .

@Gladimnotcampinginthisweather so far hospitals have felt suprisingly safe, and I hope that continues. But I have to travel 1-2 hrs, and getting there- bus, train or taxi, already feels unsafe. Always been someone unmasked. And no, not exempt, just wearing it on their chin.

Sorry, I don't usually whinge, I've been very fortunate so far, but feeling unexpectedly low at all this talk of 'freedom' .

Working from home and looking for a more permanent job (I am Agency and need something more stable with baby on the way).

Also dying of HEAT!

Vintagevixen · 18/07/2021 21:28

Letting the boiler engineer in to service the boiler - he can wear a mask if he wants to but I won't be making him.

Then out to dinner maskless - cannot bloody wait.

Might even go up and order at the bar for the thrills of it!

LysistrataVickers · 18/07/2021 21:37

Going to to the shops sans mask and I can't wait.

Going to cut up and bin the bastards (only the cheap disposables tho because I'm not naïve enough to believe we will truly be free from this shit show for a long time, if ever).

Seesawmummadaw · 18/07/2021 21:40

Night shift in full ppe. Sleeping during the day obviously.

peachcotton · 18/07/2021 21:41

I'm with my preschooler all day on Mondays so I'll be taking her to her usual music class, dance class and football. Music class will be maskless and communal singing for the first time in ages (although they stopped social distancing a while ago). Dance class is usually without masks so no change there, we are socially distanced on little spots on the ground but I doubt that will change tomorrow as it's the last class of term. Football is outdoors and will be no different. Will probably go to a playground with splash park in the afternoon to cool off.

I'll be travelling on TfL so I'll keep my mask on (it's not too hot as it's single layer and very gappy, fits more like a face shield), it will be interesting to see what compliance is like as it's usually 90%+ at the times I travel.

cricketmum84 · 18/07/2021 21:58

Same as today. We are self isolating after my sister tested positive the day after we saw her.

I'm in one of the high risk groups so will be continuing to steer clear from people, work from home and wear a mask in social situations.

bumblingbovine49 · 18/07/2021 22:04

DH and I are driving

Timeisavirtue · 18/07/2021 22:22

Work, our company have made it company policy to wear masks still, still gotta wear it on the bus too... I’ve got work and then the school run, so nothing spectacular...

salemcat · 18/07/2021 22:51

In Scotland so it's just another summer holiday Monday.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 18/07/2021 22:52

Nothing different. At work, wearing masks all day, hoping I don’t have to deal with lots of selfish gits who’ve ditched their masks ‘because they can’.

Lemonmelonsun · 18/07/2021 23:08

I need to go to some home wear shops and unfortunately due to mask less I'll go in a mask but also a face shield
.
I am going away soon, UK and don't want covid. Esp not in this heat, imagine!!

Boris rhetoric is great, the great orator, I wonder how freedom day will pan out in a few months time, I honestly feel Boris means well but having to self isolate as case's shoot through the sky.

Declaring mask less feeding day..

readit · 18/07/2021 23:14

I’m CEV, double jabbed, had a positive antibody test 3 weeks ago and I have COVID, so I’ll be staying at home, I am very unwell. I’m just consoling myself that if I hadn’t been vaccinated this could be a lot worse for me.

Freedom day is madness

PermanentTemporary · 18/07/2021 23:18

Working in a hospital where all precautions obviously remain in place (and a lot of Covid patients in the past 10 days) and cycling to work. Ds is isolating. I don't think I'll notice the difference. I intend to wear masks in enclosed areas still but tbh I'll probably start forgetting to do it.
