What's your Freedom Day looking like?

Mine isn't turning out to be very 'free' - trying to work from home again in 30 degree heat with two self-isolating primary age children whose school term finishes next Friday 😩

WFH as I have been for 15 months (and for the foreseeable) We're going to call in to a local pub in the evening for a drink, without masks.

UseOfWeapons · 18/07/2021 17:27

I’ll be at work, and no changes there to anything (NHS).
However, I’m off on Wednesday, and was considering going to the pub and having half a shandy. I don’t drink, so it would still be a red letter day, and I want to put 2 fingers up to logging in with QR codes.

Postdatedpandemic · 18/07/2021 17:31

Helping DD deep clean the wine bar she works in as she is the last member of staff not having to isolate. 50% of the pubs in our small town are closed due to staff isolation.
It was decided last week at a pub watch meeting that there will be no bar stools, no drinking at the bar and masks on if you wish to order at the bar, unanimously by all licensees. Oh the pissed off punters will really make DDs week, never mind she will probably be isolating by the end of the week.

Oh ffs, I forgot all about it and I need to do a shop.
I suppose watching the gammon shouting at security in Tesco for being asked to wear a mask will be mildly amusing.

Figgygal · 18/07/2021 17:36

Working
Second vaccination booked 5pm
Not bought into the daily mail’s freedom day bollocks anyway it’s looking like a bloody disaster waiting to happen at this point

Rockbird · 18/07/2021 17:37

Going to work in a school where close colleagues tested positive on Friday. Two classes off at the moment, so yay. Business as usual.

SedentaryCat · 18/07/2021 17:37

WFH, although we need a trip into the office to straighten it out ready to return. The plan was to return one day a week. (Own business, not been in the office for a year).

DD finished school beginning of June and is waiting for her GCSE results. DS online lessons until end of term - a late decision by the school on Friday evening at 6.30pm.

So, not much changing here.

DareIask · 18/07/2021 17:39

Sainsburys shop with mask. I'm a bit too old to be doing things just because I can.

lljkk · 18/07/2021 17:40

Exactly the same as Monday routine for last 8 months, if I'm honest.

But Tuesday... I get to use showers at the swimming pool! And lockers!

Wednesday I may have an in person work meeting.Or may not. During Wednesday I'll try to book something (that continues to be covid-restricted) & that will be easier to book if I'm at home, actually.

it's pretty dull, let's face it.

Iknowtheanswer · 18/07/2021 17:41

Waiting on a PCR test, isolating as DH has covid, trying to hold work together even th half of my staff are off isolating.... usual stuff you know...

Inclinedtochatter · 18/07/2021 17:43

No change really. I work at an opticians and we will continue to wear masks gloves and aprons and sanitise everything between patients. Not looking forward to telling patients we expect them to continue wearing masks. I'm not paid enough to get into any arguments with people.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 18/07/2021 17:45

Isolating as dh and dd tested positive last week. Bizarre as they only took Covid tests as I was ill. Typical symptoms. Hacking cough, temp and feeling awful. But I tested negative and have done everyday since.
Still not 100% and luckily no one else has tested positive so far.

HelenaJustina · 18/07/2021 17:46

I’ll be at work as usual. DC1 has broken up from school already, DC2 is self-isolating as bubble burst last Wednesday and younger two still in school (for now!) normal day!

DancingQueen2018 · 18/07/2021 17:47

Off on holiday! But on my own as the friend I was meant to go with is isolating, feeling a bit nervous tbh!

Whattheduck · 18/07/2021 17:47

Off to work as usual worked all the way through (NHS) will still need to wear a mask when away from my desk.

HelenHywater · 18/07/2021 17:48

No freedom for me. I'm isolating as my dd tested positive last week. wfh as usual.

JaninaDuszejko · 18/07/2021 17:50

DD and DH both tested positive last week and DS's LFT was positive today so we're less than half way through a double isolation. We were suppose to be going to Scotland this weekend to see my family for the first time in two years. DH and I are both WFH and now have a houseful of children to deal with as well. The summer was suppose to be made up of holidays and summer activity camps but now all our plans are in disarray. Roll on September.

PTW1234 · 18/07/2021 17:50

It’s my birthday and fancied an after work drink with some friends (still working from home).

Seems like it’s going to be rammed so not bothering, I would rather wait until a couple of weeks after I have had my double jab (which is next week)

CoodleMoodle · 18/07/2021 17:51

DS is still isolating from preschool (three days to go...). DD will be at school, if nothing changes. I've got a food shop coming and DM is coming over. DH is on leave from work for another 2 weeks so he'll be pottering about the house.

That's it!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 18/07/2021 17:56

Keeping our masks, working, avoiding indoor places and seeing a few select friends outside. Cases are rising daily so I don’t agree with freedom day when there are so many not vaccinated due to age or had second doses yet.

Silkiecats · 18/07/2021 17:57

The freedom is just amazing here as well. Ds is self isolating as close contact. I am currently being sick after second vaccine. Dh is French and now can't see his 88 year old Mum who he hasn't seen since Feb 2020 as France is now dark Amber. Dd had her day out with friends cancelled today as so many self isolating but will at least go to school tomorrow though school have warned they may shut whole school imminently. Still cat and indoor rabbit are loving 24.7 staff.

HelenHywater · 18/07/2021 17:58

@JaninaDuszejko illogical as it is, only your ds will have to do 10 days from now. You can get out on your original 10th day. (although possibly not much consolation).

I've had 2 of my children positive in the last 4 weeks. Sadly we were out of the first quarantine for 10 days when the second one tested positive. I have 2 more at home who haven't got it yet. The summer is looking pretty un-free for me.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 18/07/2021 17:58

Scrubs. Masks. Short staffed. Nowt new here Grin

Biancadelrioisback · 18/07/2021 17:59

Literally no different than any other Monday.

dizzygirl1 · 18/07/2021 18:00

Wfh as per the rest of pandemic.
1 primary child self isolating, end of term next Friday
1 secondary child self isolating but term finished last week
Tesco cancelled my delivery today due to the amount of staff isolating 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
