What's your Freedom Day looking like?

Mine isn't turning out to be very 'free' - trying to work from home again in 30 degree heat with two self-isolating primary age children whose school term finishes next Friday 😩

I will be continuing to work from home for the next few months so no different. I’ll probably work for around 10 hours so not much time for excitement, although the oven repairman is coming in the morning.

bluechameleon · 18/07/2021 18:46

I will be going to work and behaving exactly as I have been - mask in communal areas, no mask in my own department. There are only 4 days until the end of term and I am taking no risks, I don't want to be self isolating for the start of the holidays.

m0therofdragons · 18/07/2021 18:47

I’ll be working and writing messages messages reminding them public and staff that hospital rules remain unchanged and masks or visors must be worn.

School run, swimming at the lido (so no mask needed anyway), walking with a friend, then making DH’s birthday cake.

Pretty much as normal. Mainly it’s my last non-work day before DS’s school holidays start.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/07/2021 18:50

Working. DS at school then taking him to football practice. I am ditching the mask where I can but we are going to London next weekend so I'll wear it as required on the Tube.

joystir59 · 18/07/2021 18:53

Teaching adults in the morning, mask free if people are ok with that, then shops, will wear mask I think! Then home to continue getting ready for my family

CazM2012 · 18/07/2021 18:54

I get to watch youngest DD sing songs (including the special goodbye song they have) with her nursery friends to say goodbye as she moves up to school. I’m so pleased there will be 1 “normal” leaving thing for her as everything else was cancelled. Taking the tissues Sad

Back inside.
CEV
I don't mind keeping out of harm's way, indeed prefer to keep myself safe.

I am , however, fucking furious, that traveling to hospital appts and Dr appts is now becoming completely unsafe, due to no masks and rising cases numbers.

I'm absolutely fine with people who are low risk going to pubs, cinemas, nightclubs even.

My protected supermarket delivery slot is now ending. So back to, can I get a slot, if not go without. And I'll have to choose which is worse- not getting medical help for the conditions that make me CEV, or going to appts, and possibly catching Covid.

Yes, I'm double vaccinated, yes that reduces risk of serious illness/death by 95%. That means 1 in 20 of vaccinated population will get serious illness/death. But it's not an even risk across everyone- the odds that that person will be me are still a lot higher- maybe 1 in 10, or worse.1 in 5?

I'm ok with retreating back indoors. But back to trouble getting food?
Asking kind neighbours to go to chemist? No safe medical care?

Not ok with that.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 18/07/2021 18:57

Quarantine with 2 covid-positive but symptom-free children, while working from home and hoping that DH's throbbing toothache doesn't turn into an abscess.

Pass the Gin

MrsJBaptiste · 18/07/2021 18:58

Feels like freedom day to me - I'll be working in my new home office away from DH and the kids! I cannot bloody wait 😁

Dontdripme · 18/07/2021 18:59

2 self isolating children here too. Sad Yay for freedom day —not—

Wheresmrpenguin · 18/07/2021 19:01

No different, don't understand people saying they'll be getting rid of masks as places near me are saying they're required, no mask no entry.

PausePlease · 18/07/2021 19:02

Missing the first day of my new job because both my kids tested positive for covid on Friday. Great start!

TooWicked · 18/07/2021 19:03

Gosh I’ve yet to see anywhere near me saying no mask no entry.

Bitchysideisouttoplay · 18/07/2021 19:08

I'll be at work in full PPE (yay being a carer) and I managed to get the 2-10 shift so will be the hottest part of the day. At least the kids are back at school after isolation and DH will be doing the school run so at least I'll get a lie in 😁

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/07/2021 19:14

@Wheresmrpenguin

No different, don't understand people saying they'll be getting rid of masks as places near me are saying they're required, no mask no entry.
I don't know anywhere that is saying that. Some places are "politely requesting" masks but not mandatory.
GreenesAlibi · 18/07/2021 19:36

I hate those fuckers protecting their min wage staff.

KnottyKnitting · 18/07/2021 19:40

Absolutely no difference. Certainly not ditching masks. Far too many cases round here- even double jabbed are getting it. I am going away on 27th July and don't want any chance of being told to isolate before I go!

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 18/07/2021 19:44

Same as any other day. Seeing a friend. Youngest dc is going with GP to a national Trust place. Middle dc staying with me as it stands but she may decide to go with GP too.
Teen been told not to go in tomorrow ( but not to isolate. A potential postitve case.) however he's been off since last Tues. So chances are he's not been near anyone.

Then pop to the shop for a top up shop. And home to do some bits and bobs before tea time.

LadyDanburysCane · 18/07/2021 19:44

I’m certainly still wearing my mask in public indoor spaces. I’m double jabbed etc but still not willing to take chances.

Steelesauce · 18/07/2021 19:53

Probably go to the shops without a mask, just because I can.

Wheresmrpenguin · 18/07/2021 19:56

@Waxonwaxoff0 I don't know anywhere that is saying that. Some places are "politely requesting" masks but not mandatory.

I've seen some local pubs and hairdressers saying exactly this and quite rudely saying "We care about our staff, so if you don't care about our staff and wear a mask, don't come" (plus public transport and centres are mandatory). The rude guilt tripping makes me not want to go to these places anyway, so i'll go somewhere else.

I'm also in no better position to book activities as some centres are still limiting numbers and social distancing.

Gizmosnana · 18/07/2021 19:57

Isolating just been contacted by the track and trace. Had a busy week coming up. Oh well.

wjg65ka · 18/07/2021 19:57

Isolating Sad my mum has covid, likely that we will have it to.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 18/07/2021 19:59

Evidence based I thought hospitals were keeping masks for the time being.
