Would you report racism? Re: Savills employee

Following on from the Savills tweets where there employee used a racial slur regarding football last night and then made another tweet about domestic violence.
Would you report it if you saw a family member / friend etc posted something racist publicly? I think i would - i believe we should be actively anti racist not just let it slide past. I would feel slightly guilty but not overly to be honest. I also don't agree with the 'cancel culture' that goes on but people need to be held accountable for their actions!

If it was profoundly racist like this man's post, yes I would in a heartbeat. It's disgusting and such an evil nasty thing.

Lampzade · 12/07/2021 15:03

Yes

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 12/07/2021 15:03

Absolutely

Hopdathelf · 12/07/2021 15:06

I would do, yes, especially since most platforms allow an anonymous report.

Dollywilde · 12/07/2021 15:07

I hope I would. I’ve reported workmen leering at women before to their employers, and ignoring something is as good as condoning it IMO.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/07/2021 15:08

I have no problem with people being reported however would I actively make a “friend” or family member unemployed- no I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t associate with them anymore however.

TiddyAndFletch · 12/07/2021 15:09

Yes, if it was on a public platform.

I uphold people's right to express opinions in private that may be extreme and unpalatable (and I would simply walk away from such a person) but not in an arena where they may hurt others, or incite hatred.

Ambiguouscat · 12/07/2021 15:10

Yes. To not report them allows them to get away with it. No one should get away with that kind of disgusting behaviour. The Savills employee needs to remember the player he made racist remarks about was part of the team that got us to the final in the first place. I hope he loses his job, friends, family and everything else.

Pootles34 · 12/07/2021 15:11

Yes I would. The only family member I know of who would post something like that (I hope, I guess you never know) frankly is a dick and deserves to lose his job.

Surely if you had a family member like this, you couldn't actually like them?

EllaMayGrace · 12/07/2021 15:12

Yeppppp.

Frownette · 12/07/2021 15:13

Yes...it took me by surprise last night to find out there was racism directed towards missed penalties.

I wouldn't have made the connection unless it had been pointed out. It's not acceptable, they are focussed skilled young men doing their best for their country under intense pressure.

comeflywithpork · 12/07/2021 15:13

Yes

PomegranateQueen · 12/07/2021 15:14

Depends if they had dependants or not. I couldn't be the one to report someone who's DCs relied on thier wage, the kids cant help it if thier parents are arseholes.

PomegranateQueen · 12/07/2021 15:15

I would comment on it and unfriend them though.

Frownette · 12/07/2021 15:15

What was the tweet about DV?

audweb · 12/07/2021 15:17

the first thing I thought when Saka had his penalty saved was poor man, he’s going to receive racist abuse over this.

It’s not cancel culture when people have to face the consequences of their actions. If you’re going to be racist be ready to face consequences.

Would you feel the same if they had assaulted or murdered someone?

That's true, but the person posting could take responsibility for their actions. I do feel some hide behind 'having to support my family' as a reason to be untouchable, but any consequences are their own fault. These are people posting on the Internet, a lot of the time it's easy enough to Google someone and find out where they work, it's good people would tell their employers, and also not setting a decent impression on their children are they.

I absolutely would, it's abhorrent and I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

Xansaf · 12/07/2021 15:24

If it’s on Facebook or something then I’d report it to the relevant platform.

To report it to their employer is nasty, wrong and underhand. They may have views you don’t share, they may not even be very nice views but they don’t deserve to lose their livelihood over them.

PomegranateQueen · 12/07/2021 15:24

I know you are going to argue otherwise Clifton but being a dick on the internet and actually murdering or assaulting someone are just not the same.

CasparBloomberg · 12/07/2021 15:30

Absolutely.
Have challenged publicly on what they've said, reported to the platform and blocked them. Haven't taken it to an employer.
DH on the other hand is much more confrontational and purposely doesn't block them so he can troll all their racist posts, correcting their "facts".

Nicolastuffedone · 12/07/2021 15:32

Yes. 1,000 times, yes.

Noterook · 12/07/2021 15:33

I suppose it depends whether you view someone posting overtly and blatant racist things as 'not very nice views', or whether you see them as unacceptable. Social media behaviour clauses in contract are nought new, why some people feel its alright to post such vile stuff in the first place is questionable, let alone get away with it.
reducingfootprint · 12/07/2021 15:34

@Dollywilde i agree with the ignoring is as good as condoning it!!

@Frownette it was a gif of someone throwing punches with the caption something like "england fans going home to their wives"

@Xansaf even if they worked with the vulnerable / young / impressionable?? or for a company who promotes equality?

OP posts:
reducingfootprint · 12/07/2021 15:35

i would also do the same for sexism, homophobia etc etc
