Would you report racism? Re: Savills employee

Following on from the Savills tweets where there employee used a racial slur regarding football last night and then made another tweet about domestic violence.
Would you report it if you saw a family member / friend etc posted something racist publicly? I think i would - i believe we should be actively anti racist not just let it slide past. I would feel slightly guilty but not overly to be honest. I also don't agree with the 'cancel culture' that goes on but people need to be held accountable for their actions!

@Xansaf but it is fine for black people (and our children) to have to read and absorb those views? You are ok to preserve a racist’s job and what are all of us on the receiving end of the abuse supposed to do?

Iggyplop · 12/07/2021 15:39

Yes it's unnecessary and infantile, they should be publically shamed it's frankly disgusting hate mongering.

babbaloushka · 12/07/2021 15:44

Yes, it provides an opportunity for discipline and accountability. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

babbaloushka · 12/07/2021 15:45

@Frownette

Yes...it took me by surprise last night to find out there was racism directed towards missed penalties.

I wouldn't have made the connection unless it had been pointed out. It's not acceptable, they are focussed skilled young men doing their best for their country under intense pressure.

I'm jealous it surprised you, many of us know exactly how much latent racism there is in England, waiting for an outlet. I am sure Saka and Ashford were acutely aware of that too, non-white people have to perform to a higher standard for acceptance.
Annoyedandirritated · 12/07/2021 15:46

I actually know that guy that posted that who works for Savills. I’m so shocked, and other people that know him think he may have been hacked. It’s despicable either way. What was the tweet about DV?

DoItAfraid · 12/07/2021 15:46

@Xansaf

I cant get past your post. I despise people with an attitude like yours.

“To report it to their employer is nasty, wrong and underhand.”

“Reporting is nasty” - As opposed to spewing racist vitriol over the internet? A grown adult. If your livelihood is so important to you then guess what, don't do that! Not exactly rocket science is it? What does nasty even mean to you if you cant condemn *blatant racism”.

“Underhand?” HE put it on the Internet?! What is underhand about reporting it - please explain to me?

The people on the receiving end of this racist bile are also people with children you know - these disgusting attitudes dont just evaporate into the ether. They land. They make innocent people feel unsafe, victimised, targeted confused, scared and less confident.

But ok let’s preserve the earning power of a racist mysoginist.

There have been posts shared with racist content from earlier in the year - hacked twice? Surely not Hmm

Yes!

wed8pril · 12/07/2021 15:51

@Xansaf

If it’s on Facebook or something then I’d report it to the relevant platform.

To report it to their employer is nasty, wrong and underhand. They may have views you don’t share, they may not even be very nice views but they don’t deserve to lose their livelihood over them.

If they openly use racist slurs then yeah, they probably should. I would want someone like that working for me, or to be served by them in a shop.
VeryLongBeeeeep · 12/07/2021 15:52

Yes. Staying quiet only helps the abuser, not the abused.

Youarestillintherunning · 12/07/2021 15:53

Absolutely would report, regardless of who posted it. I think by not reporting, you are complicit in it

dreamingbohemian · 12/07/2021 15:54

Oh he was not hacked, come on. It was not the first time he posted vile racist shit.

I would absolutely report it, those kinds of consequences are the only things stupid racists like that understand.

People keep saying it's only a minority of England fans who act like this, but if the majority just look the other way and don't do anything, then nothing is going to improve.

Micemakingclothes · 12/07/2021 15:56

I am not going to report anything someone does in their personal life to their employer. If they engage in illegal behavior, then that will become an issue for their employment and be dealt with accordingly without my intervention.

If a person engages in unacceptable behavior or speech while acting in their employment role, then I do think that should be reported to the employer because at that moment they are a representative of the company.

Racism is illegal.
Annoyedandirritated · 12/07/2021 15:57

I’m sure he wasn’t hacked, it’s a convenient excuse that I can’t imagine will fly.

I’m very shocked though that he would spout such bile

Ah! The old “I was hacked” excuse. Do people honestly think hackers, with all their hacking ability and know how, spend their time hacking a random nobody with hardly any followers, just to do a racist tweet?
Yonkerslopez · 12/07/2021 16:00

What was the tweet about DV?
It was also a tweet joking about British Wives will be beaten after the result...

(he has a new/alt account) that has not been deleted yet

@Annoyedandirritated he has tweeted racial abuse more than once... was not hacked in my opinion

Exactly! If he was a famous person, then possibly yes, but some random from Savill's, not really credible.

knittingaddict · 12/07/2021 16:05
@Dollywilde i agree with the ignoring is as good as condoning it!!

@Frownette it was a gif of someone throwing punches with the caption something like "england fans going home to their wives"

@Xansaf even if they worked with the vulnerable / young / impressionable?? or for a company who promotes equality?
That's vile. I did say to my husband last night that some wives will probably be the victim of DA tonight, but to make a joke of it is awful. It's worse because it's true.

Mabelene · 12/07/2021 16:05

All these utter bastards deserve everything coming to them. Can’t do the time? Don’t do the crime.

Frownette · 12/07/2021 16:06

@PomegranateQueen

I know you are going to argue otherwise Clifton but being a dick on the internet and actually murdering or assaulting someone are just not the same.
Yes but aside from racist speech should not be tolerated, it might rile up someone else of a violent nature. They don't need much excuse.
Orf1abc · 12/07/2021 16:07

People being dicks on the internet were what influenced Jo Cox' murderer.
