Life.Is.Shit - and I don't think I'm depressed - maybe it just is?

I honestly can't work out if I'm depressed or not. I frequently just don't believe life is that hard work it is, I've quite simply had enough.

This isn't a suicidal post - I have no intention of ending my life but just don't get enjoyment out of it that I would want/expect to make it worthwhile.

It's boring AF. From the outside looking in you would think I'm ungrateful for making this post. There's nothing in my life that's an issue really.

Hate my work, too much responsibility and also boring but aside from this it earns me incredible income and I have freedoms to do what a want.

So why do I still come to this conclusion?

Id love to hear other experiences.

I am interested to see ADHD mentioned on this thread. I have wondered several times if I have it. I mentioned it to the GP but the GP said the NHS doesn’t carry out adult assessments as there is no treatment for ADHD.

OP, I once went on holiday and was monumentally depressed and self medicating with alcohol.
I envied the cleaners,they had their routine,their companions,their business,their sense of purpose.
I wonder if that is the sort of feeling you experience.

TreeSmuggler · 11/07/2021 22:04

I don't know OP, you sound completely normal. Most people feel like this I think, mixed in with moments of enjoyment as well.

As for envying others, they probably feel the exact same way, they just haven't mentioned it to you. Nor you to them, so in fact they probably envy you. "Look at OP with her career, she is so dedicated and so good at it, she clearly never wastes time worrying about the futility of life. She even says she would never leave, that's how happy she is. I wish I had a simple life like her but I'm just sitting here in ennui".

Its not that it is a secret as such, more that it's so obvious there is not much to say. Like we don't talk about how the sky is blue all the time either.

@doesparentingsuck I have education to masters level (1990s) and a hugely successful business that means retired 5 years ago with zero money worries and a treble figure income.

The owner of Virgin has ADHD. emma Watson has ADHD. it has absolutely bugger all to do with academic results or earning power. Maybe look again.

@doesparentingsuck my therapist almost laughed in my face god bless her, at the idea I have it. But I do. And she had the decency to be very ashamed and sorry for her supposition.

Apparently, the counselling room is not good for diagnosis because the client (with the adhd) is expect d to talk about themselves at length (a symptom), about something of great interest to them (a symptom) and is invited to show themselves fully ie no need to mask or reciprocate.

Your GP is an idiot. There are tests for adult ADHD and very good treatment options.
