Marmite and vegamite do taste different. I quite like them both if they are used properly, as in a thin layer applied to hot buttered toast or crumpets.

I woke up at 6, which was far too early for Saturday, so I went back to bed after letting the dog out (he was annoyed because there were a lot of birds about.)

Champagneforeveryone · 31/07/2021 11:11

Well... today my phone tells me I should be flying out on our family holiday of a lifetime. It also tells me that it's time to replace the Brita filter cartridge, so at least I have that to look forward to Wink

Squirrel26 · 31/07/2021 11:28

@Champagneforeveryone you should tell your phone it needs to learn to be more tactful and remind it who’s in charge of the ‘off’ button.

Contemplating going to sort out the front garden. Front garden is tiny, so this will only actually take me about an hour, once I get off my arse and get out there.

Not heard of this hybrid - I'll look out for it.
In other dull news my left eye has swollen up, following a sneezing fit. I don't get hayfever, well never have before.Confused

Silkiecats · 31/07/2021 13:08

Dh took yesterday off 'for gardening', he picked the day at one day notice which had thunder and rain forecast all day. Much to Silkiecats disgust he slept to lunchtime, Silkiecat had not agreed to this. Then he said he could only look at the rain. Though now I am confused and think it is Sunday.

Champagneforeveryone · 31/07/2021 15:38

DH has already changed the filter - apparently the light was annoying him Hmm

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/07/2021 16:06

I have rearranged the storage in the "guest bathroom" - now any workperson has enough space to work in and all the stuff that needs to be stored in there still is in there - accessible and in order. I am slightly proud of myself and will now stop any type of housework for the day.

Gingerwarthog · 31/07/2021 18:19

Bought Baby-warthog a body board and joined her in the sea.
Much splashing.
Ice- creams with sprinkles.

Bouledeneige · 31/07/2021 21:06

I went to visited my aged Dad today (92) and we discussed the best books in English literature, sorted his laptop and mopped his floor. I then did his shopping.

After that I then went to Sainsbury's and a Japanese supermarket to get supplies. Since then I've done nothing a bit of reading and cooking and a little nap. I'm now watching shit TV.

Silkiecats · 31/07/2021 22:31

I had roast dinner then scones, 🍓jam and cream and sorted all the accounts and cleared 200 emails. Then cleared some of the landing, moved chest of drawers and gave bathroom a clean. Dh picked up the printer cartridges. No one can accuse us of not knowing how to have fun here. Now back to watching Olympics.

MissConductUS · 31/07/2021 22:35

Iwandered, you can develop allergies at any age.

Boule, my mum and MIL are of a similar age. Good on you for being so helpful to your dad. I had a nap today too. Smile

Silkie, your Saturday productivity puts mine to shame. I've just done some shopping and gardening. It's been a lovely day here.

I gave into temptation and texted DS, asking how his trip was going and telling him that the cats missed him. No answer yet, but it was delivered, so that's promising. At least I know his phone is working.

I'm sure your Monday to Friday and Sunday productivity would put mine to shame MissC and sure you deserve days where you can rest. Though shopping and gardening is still productive.

Still have a lot to get done here though at least headed in the right direction now. Its as we had the two houses and was always the other one that got worked on so we could sell it perfect and then of course we had to bring all the things over whilst schools were shut.

DD has dyed her hair half dark red, half brown / black, its a very special look. She is meeting up with friends tomorrow, finally out of isolation.

MissConductUS · 01/08/2021 01:47

DS texted me back to say that his trip was going well and that he did a lot of walking today. I asked him to text me when he leaves Boston tomorrow so that we know if he'll be home for dinner.

Silkie, that sounds like quite a look for your DD.

Boule - what books did your Dad think were the best?

HildaTablet · 01/08/2021 08:05

Returning briefly to the Marmite/Vegemite controversy, I think Australians would claim Vegemite is best. Others might disagree.

I enjoyed my Marmite on toast, though.

I picked most of the blackcurrants from the garden yesterday (first crop since I - intentionally - cut the bushes right down a couple of years ago) and I plan to use them to make a blackcurrant and almond cake later.

sueelleker · 01/08/2021 08:54

@Silkie Is her hair side to side, or top to bottom?

Muddydoor · 01/08/2021 09:54

On holiday on Dorset. I am up and raring to go, been up for three hours. Everyone else is asleep.

sueelleker · 01/08/2021 10:13

Go for a walk on your own?
Champagneforeveryone · 01/08/2021 10:19

muddydoor whereabouts are you staying?

IWanderedLonely · 01/08/2021 10:22

HildaTablet we've got a blackcurrant bush. I made 3 jars of jam with mine. Also got a redcurrant bush - they would make about 1/2 a jarGrin
Eye atill puffy but better than yesterday.
I cleaned the bathroom yesterday but couldn't be arsed ran out of time to mop the floor so that is my mission for today

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/08/2021 11:55

School starts on the 9th, time to move DS back to daytime and get him to do some preparatory work.

I have done the accounts and will now take down the bio bin (104 stept down and up again), which I will count as exercise.

Champagneforeveryone · 01/08/2021 12:29

DS has gone to a friends for his birthday. They have cider and 12 of them are spending the day at the beach first in the rain

He's just driven there and had his car lavishly admired by his friends. When I left him he was approximately 7ft tall Grin

Muddydoor · 01/08/2021 12:29

Campsite in Dorset. Had a nice time reading and drinking coffee until others awoke.

MissConductUS · 01/08/2021 13:06

Welcome to the thread, @Muddydoor, and thanks for sharing your camping news. I think you were on a previous thread.

Not much happening here. DH is still in bed. I'm debating going to church. DS read my text asking him to inform us of his dinner plans. I'll be glad when he gets back to Boston. It's supposed to rain this afternoon and tonight, so I don't know what we'll do about dinner.

Three jars of jam - that must have been a good crop, IWandered! We inherited several bushes in this garden and had such a massive haul every year that I got slightly desperate. I made cassis a few times, which was quite a good way of dealing with a glut. Tbh my decision to cut down to the ground renovate three of the bushes was a bid to stem the unstoppable tide of blackcurrants for a few years....
