Science are putting DS down a set and only letting him do double rather than triple science because he is autistic and apparently this will make him less autistic. They already did it this year and he went from writing, having a friend and getting 7s to no writing, no friends and a U. Sad Didn't get anywhere so going for a change of schools but that has to be done via LA now he has an EHCP.

Silkiecats · 22/07/2021 11:27

And with an hour of school to go DD gets close contact isolation, good job I paid £35 before to move our holiday from the next 2 weeks.

Sunbird24 · 22/07/2021 11:56

The metal ring on my jumpsuit strap broke while I was in an online meeting this morning. It’s a good job we didn’t have cameras on… I’ve replaced it with a ring from a key ring but now I’m going to have to find a way to do the same on the other side as it looks odd

Squirrel26 · 22/07/2021 13:14

I didn’t know triple science exacerbated autism. Hmm You really do learn something new every day.

I’m going to fill up my water bottle. Because it’s empty.

The battery on my iPhone is shot knackered so I've made an appointment to drop it off at a chain electronics store (Best Buy) that is an authorized Apple service provider. It's not that far from home, so depending on how long it will take I might wait for it or just come back after dinner to pick it up. They are open until 8:00 PM, so I have options.

I used to have a cell phone repair shop that would do it, but Apple has done something to the phone so that you get an error message constantly if it's not done by a shop that has special software to reset things. The last time I had it done at the local place I had to go to Best Buy and have it done again to get rid of the error message. My annoyance was mitigated somewhat because I own shares of Apple, and it's good for the stock.

DD and I have been to Uniqlo yesterday - the only shop she can get clothes in adult cuts and in sizes that actually fit her (xxS, XS). She has bought a dress and a pair of those skirty trousers - both linen. I will do the ironing.

The drain pipes below the kitchen sink have fallen apart - luckily I mistrust every technical installation in this flat - so there was an empty bucket placed underneath. Grin

I am two glasses of Prosecco to the wind, I usually prefer cava but this was a gift from a pupil (one of the diddy bottles) and so I enjoyed with my feet in the paddling pool. Tempting as it is to carry on drinking, I do actually have to be back in work and a grown up by 9am tomorrow it’s unfair, term is over, stamps like toddler

MissConductUS · 22/07/2021 20:59

I had never heard of prosecco until I joined MN. I suppose it's available here, but it seems like the national beverage in the UK. Perhaps it's because we have California champagne.

OP posts:
Squirrel26 · 22/07/2021 21:16

Prosecco pretty much is the national beverage. It's a tie between that, tea and ribena.

MissConductUS · 22/07/2021 22:32

I had to Google ribena. 😁

Best Buy would not replace the battery in my iPhone. Apple won't let them until the battery health drops to 78%. Mine is at 90%. It's just another way they get you to buy a new phone.

Sneaky buggers.

We keep Trader Joe's Prosecco in the fridge just in case of a Prosecco emergency. You'd be surprised how often they occur.

Silkiecats · 22/07/2021 23:00

We had lots of avios points from BA flights to Australia but because of lockdown couldn't redeem them for anything but alcohol so I got 6 bottles of prosecco just to keep from losing rest of points. That prosecco was the most horrible prosecco ever. Normally really like it.

Being French DH prefers Champagne and orders vast quantities of it as he can get it in bulk quite cheaply and he gives it to people at his work. He does quite well out of the arrangement as his Mum pays for it all. Silkiecat loves the boxes.

MissConductUS · 23/07/2021 01:18

I've asked DH what he drank when he lived in London. He replied that he occasionally had a "real ale" called Old Wallop. He described it as a strong beer with twigs and leaves floating in it.

I don't know whether he's joking or not.

OP posts:
Sunbird24 · 23/07/2021 05:39

😂 He’s joking about the twigs and leaves, they’d block the pump…

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/07/2021 07:05

DH is from the French border, so wine it is in this household and, of course, Obstbrände.
Me - I usually stick do Genever and its descendants (gin).

Champagneforeveryone · 23/07/2021 12:48

I've just had my first ever experience at a pick your own flower farm. I adore flowers but am exceptionally untalented at the arranging side, so the nice lady did jiggle them about a bit for me.

I may have found my new favourite place Smile

Just watching opening ceremony of Olympics here. First day of school holidays though DD in isolation now.

Silkiecats · 23/07/2021 12:56

Beautiful flowers Champagne Silkiecat would love to eat some of those.

PhloxOfSheep · 23/07/2021 12:57

Jackdaws seem have disappeared, temporarily.

I am trying to decide what to bake from Mary Berry's Baking Bible. DH is going to Sainsbury's later because our click and collect delivery earlier in the week substituted his choice of wine for something in the Taste the Difference range, which he doesn't rate. I can't drink as am pregnant, and am going to bake myself something nice instead.

Current possibilities are:

Apple and cinnamon cake
Blueberry muffins
Apricot and walnut sandwich bars

I'm thinking the sandwich bars.

PhloxOfSheep · 23/07/2021 13:10

@Champagneforeveryone Lovely flowers! I've never heard of a PYO for flowers.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/07/2021 13:25

Sandwich bars sound good.

Squirrel26 · 23/07/2021 13:50

My colleague has just come in an asked me something. I said I’m not sure, but I think it’s X. She then told me all about why she thinks it’s Y. Including having spoken to the person it relates to, who said it was Y. SO WHY ASK ME ABOUT IT THEN. Good God.

HildaTablet · 23/07/2021 13:57

Lovely flowers, Champagne. Dh and I went to Stockholm a couple of times (beautiful place, if we ever get to travel again I'm going back) and one of my standout memories is the lovely Rosendals garden with its pick-your-own flower meadow - scissors supplied. Also an amazing bakery selling delicious kanelbullar

It's not that far from the ABBA museum too Grin

I do wish I was sitting there eating cinnamon buns right now

MissConductUS · 23/07/2021 14:39

I found a flower farm near me that isn't pick your own, but they do CSA (community supported agriculture), so I signed up and now get a lovely bouquet every week.

Phlox, I'm still awash in blueberries from when we picked them, so I may have another go at blueberry bread. I bought a bag of pecans at the warehouse club, so I'll chop and toss those in. I'm determined to remember the egg this time.

Thank god it's Friday. Smile

DH has just finished making blackberry jam (Brombeermarmelade) without pits.

DD is back from the wedding - having spoken a mix of English, German and Spanish for a whole lovely morning, she is now asleep on her sofa.
