Ds also kept trying to open the window. Dd was Ds Hmm opening the window during torrential rain is not a good idea.

Silkiecats · 20/07/2021 19:05

School is open for DS's year tomorrow, well the about 3 of them that aren't isolating and half the years are closed due to flooding.

MissConductUS · 20/07/2021 21:21

I've booked an appointment for a physical therapy evaluation tonight so we'll have to have an early dinner. It's with the same PT I saw previously for the problem in my hip. Normally it's more of a wait for an appointment but they've had a cancelation.

I just read an article in the WSJ about Peppa Pig being wildly popular here during the pandemic when kids had unlimited screen time. So now the US is full of 8 year olds talking about petrol stations, mince and biscuits. In Peppa's accent, of course.

That’s quite funny @MissConductUS, apparently a lot of parents over here hate Peppa as she’s entitled and rude!

Champagneforeveryone · 20/07/2021 21:35

I'm back at work following my bout of sickness. I'm a bit Hmm to discover that someonehas reported me for breaching isolation rules. I however was not isolating but was signed off sick, while a lot of staff were isolating.

I've done nothing wrong and there's been no feedback yet as we are crazy busy, but I'm quietly seething nonetheless.

HelenaJustina · 20/07/2021 22:09

Think my immune system is winning the battle, definitely on the way back up. We’ve had an outdoor leaving do for some staff leavers this evening, it was lovely and felt almost normal. 1.5 days to go...

@Prokupatuscrakedatus the order is different here, we say ENT, ear nose throat

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 21/07/2021 00:10

Today has been a rest day, lots of resting on the sofa with a fan blowing on me with breaks out in the garden under the uv tent

Tomorrow I need to paint my spare room as my sil arrives on Friday week for a fortnight, I had it on my calendar as this Friday, whoops.

Champagneforeveryone · 21/07/2021 07:35

It's one year today since we got ChampagneCat. She's celebrated already with a couple more pigeon feathers Grin

HildaTablet · 21/07/2021 09:32

It was so hot in the night that I couldn't sleep until 3:30, then a pigeon (unsure whether morose or not) woke me again at 4:30, cooing loudly outside the open window.

DH has had to take our car for its annual service and MOT. Normally the garage collect and return it but they're unable to do it this time so he just has to hang around until they finish - which could be hours Hmm. I was wondering whether he'd be well enough to go because yesterday one side of his face, just where his ear meets his jaw, suddenly swelled up as though he had mumps (he's had it already so not that). We assume it's something to do with a blocked saliva duct.

Anyway, the swelling has almost gone this morning and he insisted he's OK so he's gone, taking a weighty book to read for the duration, plus a box of face masks ('freedom' day notwithstanding).

PhloxOfSheep · 21/07/2021 10:21

@MissConductUS That sounds lovely. Goldfinches occasionally pass through my garden but don't seem to be willing to stop off. We have a regular hanging bird feeder too, but it's not as busy as I'd like. Perhaps my expectations are a bit high.

@HildaTablet Waiting around for an unspecified amount of time is very irritating. I had a hospital appointment yesterday that could have been anything from 20 minutes to 3 hours according to the letter Hmm thankfully it was on the shorter side, but it's the not knowing!

Squirrel26 · 21/07/2021 10:49

What @Champagneforeveryone?? I’d be really annoyed by that too. Have they been stalking you while you were off?

Caught up with friend about her sinuses/teeth/dentist. She said her daughter was unimpressed with dentist even though she has seen an episode of Peppa with a dentist visit, so she knew what was involved. I said maybe she was expecting the dentist to be an elephant and was unimpressed when he was just a man?

Squirrel26 · 21/07/2021 10:56

(We agreed that life is just a series of let downs, and the earlier children realise this the better.)

Champagneforeveryone · 21/07/2021 13:22

No idea squirrel Hmm

There's actually only two colleagues who live near me and one of them is isolating, so unlikely to be her as she would have been breaking the rules to have seen me. It's of course entirely likely that it was someone passing through as a short cut

And yes yes to life being a series of disappointments. Though an elephant may have been an improvement on my childhood dentist Wink

MissConductUS · 21/07/2021 14:20

Hilda, swelling like that is concerning. If it happens again have it looked at. I'd be concerned that it could be a swollen lymph node.

Good news from the physical therapist. I have good mobility and strength in both legs. It's because I've been riding the bloody stationary bike every morning. So he gave me some stretches to do at home and I don't need to return unless something changes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/07/2021 19:22

I'd have much preferred an elephant. In my youth it was still fashionable for dentists to put pictures of medieval 'dentists' at work and other encouraging decorations on the waiting room walls.

Miss great you are making such good progress!

MissConductUS · 21/07/2021 21:09

Thanks, Prok, I was really pleased. I was not looking forward to going to PT twice a week for six weeks, which is what the doctor allowed in the prescription. I am still sore on that side, but I am making good progress.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/07/2021 21:30

At physio I learned exercises to do at home, but more important and helpful was the passive mobilisation the therapist did. I'd never have dared to do that on my own. Quite painful but so worth it.

DD will attend a wedding in two days time - the first social outing since March last year.

Silkiecats · 21/07/2021 23:06

We had jacket potatoes with sour cream and salmon and a garden / spring onion side salad.

Silkiecat thought sour cream and smoked salmon was the best recipe ever. She has been trying to jump on the kitchen units and failing for 3 days but this gave her the motivation for the final jump and she made it. She got to the sour cream and then DH unreasonably took it away but Silkiecat found the remains of his jacket potato filling and ate it. Only issue was Silkiecat couldn't get down by herself, its hard being an old cat.

DD did a 6th form open day today which went well.

I used to have a dentist with lots of pictures of monkey dentists on the wall. It's still very hot here. Last day of school tomorrow and both kids are in. DSs school is still part closed due to flooding.

mathanxiety · 22/07/2021 05:02

I took DD4 to the dentist today. They have redone their offices completely and I hate the colours - all gloomy greys and for some reason a look that reminds me of the 80s, but not in a good way.

DD needs a filling, or if the dentist can't save the tooth with the filling, a root canal. Also a good tooth cleaning. We will return next Wednesday and the Wednesday after that to get it all done.

I sat out on the deck and did some reading after getting home from the dentist.

Silkiecats my Dcat, normally pretty fierce, hides behind the loo during thunderstorms.

HelenaJustina · 22/07/2021 06:49

It’s the last day of term Grin Gin Grin

Can’t believe we’ve so nearly made it...

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 22/07/2021 07:28

Thick fog coming off the sea, lying in bed waiting for the painkillers to kick in. All it needs is a tolling bell to complete the sensation of being in a black and white movie.

Champagneforeveryone · 22/07/2021 08:08

DDogs and I have been for a walk after work, while the rest of the house is like the grave.

I shall try and sleep shortly but have a haircut booked for 1pm. Due to my illness and my hairdresser having the temerity to decide he would not work one of the only two days a week he works, I have been forced to interrupt my precious sleep or adopt the mountain yak look.

It is bin day here and I am convinced the wrong bins are out. Apparently all the neighbours are also wrong, or they're horrendous sheep who follow what the first person to put their bins out does. It is inconceivable I would have made a mistake Wink

Silkiecats · 22/07/2021 08:51

That's cute Maths

Hope you are feeling better soon Disgrace I'm am also on the painkillers again. I have a 9am meeting with the science dept about DS, these two facts maybe related Smile

Last day of term here too, think its a half day here for them both. DD was giving me strategies for dealing with science, apparently I should be as dramatic as possible.

Squirrel26 · 22/07/2021 09:10

What are science expecting you to do, @Silkiecats? Confused Your dinner last night sounds lovely. I might steal the idea. Grin

Having a coffee and feeling uninspired.

Nydj · 22/07/2021 10:05

Still boiling hot here so I am in bed with two fans going. I set the washing machine on a timer last night so will have to go down and check if it worked or whether I forgot to turn the timer programmer on -apologies if that’s not too exciting for this thread.
