I have been to a professional fotographer for a new portrait foto to replace the one I currently frighten people on our intranet with. Turned out quite well, I look my age but in healthy way.

And I rebooked my admission slot for the exhibition in the Gemäldegalerie.

Silkiecats · 18/07/2021 10:24

Its 26C here too, far too hot for me already and spent the night being sick, lovely.

HildaTablet · 18/07/2021 16:29

Sorry you're not so well, Silkie Sad

It's really hot here too. Even the tortoise is in hiding. I defrosted the freezer, which is the household task I hate the most (and I hate all of them). I remembered all over again just how much I loathe doing it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/07/2021 17:23

Silkie I hope you are better.

Very windy here - every few minutes something slams shut somewhere.

MissConductUS · 18/07/2021 19:07

ZZ, I just texted with her about the incident, but she seemed pretty unconcerned. We have a Zoom call later today, so I'll get the full story then.

DH and DS have washed and waxed my car, which was nice of them. It looks like the rain is over, so we will cook out tonight.

Thanks Hilda and Prok

Absolutely boiling here. Not a lot got done, I had roast dinner but only the veg and potatoes, did 1 room carpet cleaning. Dh cleaned after rabbit. Stopped being sick at least. Dd came to tell me I have covid Confused as she said my voice wasn't right. I told her dh said it was the vaccine (dh gives medical opinions on everything despite having no medical training) and she went I am so relieved and left. I presume she doesn't want to isolate.

MissConductUS · 19/07/2021 00:40

I have an update on the fire from DD. There was some significant fire damage on the top floor of the dorm, which was completely unoccupied at time. Worse was the water damage when the sprinkler system was set off everywhere in the building. The furniture, carpets, plaster walls, electrical wiring, etc. are likely a total loss. The University will have to find alternative housing for over 100 students. The dorm was built in 1903 and was gorgeous.

DD already has her housing assignment and doesn't think she will be displaced. We will see.

I’m so tired I could cry. I’ve got a really disgusting head cold. I think it was just starting, and then I had my second jab and my immune system has just gone beserk. It’s like someone turned a tap on in my nose...

Champagneforeveryone · 19/07/2021 12:47

helena that sounds rough. You must be absolutely ready to break up for the summer!

DS is now in isolation until Saturday and we've been plagued by calls from Test and Trace. Why they thought it was a good idea to call a 17 year old at 7am is beyond me Grin

MissConductUS · 19/07/2021 13:42

Helena I'm sorry to hear about your head cold. They can be miserable.

Helena Poor you!

DoctorTwo · 19/07/2021 19:18

Had a burger in town, and once I'd eaten what I wanted I noticed a juvenile starling loitering. I broke a piece off and held it out. It hopped gingerly towards me, took it from my fingers and flew a short distance away. It flew back, and took another bit. After the third piece it didn't bother flying off, just stayed next to me while I fed it the last bite of my food. It was lovely.

I have my second Covid jab tomorrow

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/07/2021 19:25

On my first glance I missed the word 'starling' and started to wonder ....

Squirrel26 · 19/07/2021 19:29

Took the day off work to take the horse out to do some jumping. He decided that the lorry that was taking him home was unacceptable and refused to get in it.

Had to get his preferred lorry to come out, at which point after about 15 minutes of stomping around he allowed the lady who drives it (who I think he has a bit of a thing for) to put him in it, and then was perfectly fine on the way home, and perfectly calm coming off.

The whole thing took TWO HOURS longer than it should have done. I am a wreck. I need another day off to recover.

I's assumed that it was a lad of 10 or so, like something out of a Victorian ear story...Grin

Squirrel, I cannot imagine having a pet bigger than myself. Some people in my area keep horses, but it seems to be much more common in the UK.

era, not "ear".

Thank you very much all for the sympathy, it’s the only place I’ve found any and it is much appreciated! Snot has slowed but sinus pain has stepped up. And it is too bloody hot!
DC2 has 4 more days in isolation and DC3 and 4 (and me) have 2.5 more days... I can do this, I can...

Squirrel26 · 19/07/2021 19:59

I intentionally got a dog I could lift and move in an emergency (15kg).

I did not consider this with the horse (500+kg)!

HelenaJustina · 19/07/2021 20:00

@Squirrel26 in this heat, I think I’d have left the stubborn bugger where he was!

MissConductUS · 19/07/2021 20:04

Helena, it's sounding more and more like an infected maxillary sinus rather than just a cold. I'm prone to them because my sinus don't drain well normally. You may need a course of antibiotics if you have sinus pain.

I slept from 1am through to 12.30pm Shock only waking once for painkillers and 3am blue cheese and biscuits.

DS still isolating. DD at school. DH wfh. Boiling day again.

DH just asked what to have for dinner. I said pickled onions and he was Hmm. I've just had 3 pickled onions and DH said I have to wait until I have more Sad DS would love pets bigger than him.

Not heard from @Frownette in a while, hope everything is OK.

Squirrel26 · 19/07/2021 21:12

I was tempted, @HelenaJustina. You don’t want to get in the lorry for the journey out? Absolutely fine. We won’t go. You don’t want to get in the lorry for the journey HOME? Well, maybe you just live here now…

sproutsandparsnips · 19/07/2021 22:07

HelenaJustina hope you are feeling better.
Both the children have made it to the end of term with no one in their schools isolating.
Work is in meltdown. We are seeing more Covid patients, not as many as last time and most nowhere near as ill as before but as we were teetering on the brink it has not taken much to push us over the edge. I am on a long day tomorrow and dreading it.
On the up side I had a little trip to the beach today on my day off with DS and his friend. I sat in a chair and read my book and had a little dip in the sea. We didn't go till 4ish to avoid the crowds and so I could go to the shop and clean the bathroom/ kitchen and do 3 loads of ironing before we went.

HelenaJustina · 19/07/2021 22:29

@sproutsandparsnips that sounds like my perfect day, productive with a relaxing reward at the end!

@MissConductUS I’d struggle to get antibiotics prescribed here ‘for a cold’!

@Squirrel26 that made me snort tea, I don’t make idle threats so when the DC were younger they knew I meant it if I said ‘you’ll go to school like that then’ or ‘I’m leaving, if you want a lift home, get in the car’. But that kind of logic is harder with a 500kg hot cross horse! DH is the rider in our family, with DC4 coming up on his heels. His last beast (who moved on after DC1 was born) was a complete misogynist arse, but so beautiful and didn’t he know it!

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 19/07/2021 23:16

Today has been a stressful day, my fridge freezer died yesterday / overnight leading to dripping all over the floor and spoiled food, half a Brown bin worth but had no other choice as not safe to eat as some was soggy and some was half frozen so it all had to go. Mad dash to the local credit union who gave me a loan as lots of other things have come up in the past week so eating away at my money and I don't get paid again till Thursday but I need a fridge freezer. So got the cash at 11.30am and it was delivered by 3.30pm, I didn't even have to visit the shop in person, a virtual viewing of the stock. So grocery order for tomorrow of ice cream and lollies and other basic essential but mainly ice cream and lollies 😁
