We are making the new bed. DH made an excellent rectangle but then trapped himself inside the bed, I think he learned how to make a bed from Silkiecat.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/07/2021 20:48

silkie How did he do that? My bed making experiences never had me trapped inside (though often holding sth up while waiting for DH).

Is the English name for Kohlweißling really 'cabbage white butterfly' as google tries to tell me? I have one - male - among the lavender.

Squirrel26 · 14/07/2021 20:58

Yep, Cabbage White butterflies are definitely a thing!

The dog is sitting on me but he won't sit down properly. He's basically leaning his bum really heavily on my chest while he monitors the street for cats.

Silkiecats · 14/07/2021 21:00

He decided to get inside the bed and put the slats on. It reminded me of when Silkiecat would get inside the duvet cover when we are changing it and then charge around all the corners forgetting the way out.

I would call that a white butterfly but am not a butterfly expert.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/07/2021 21:12

Oh that kind of trapped, DS did that once Smile

Squirrel Be supportive to your dog!

mathanxiety · 14/07/2021 21:12

@DoctorTwo, that's the late, great Magdalen Berns.

MissConductUS · 14/07/2021 21:51

I'm home. The new GP seemed very nice, gave me a physical exam, we talked about my medical history for a while then I went off to another department to have blood drawn (6 vials).

I'm glad that's over.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus I am LITERALLY supportive to my dog; he treats me like a piece of furniture (think toddler using you as scaffolding to climb on).

HelenaJustina · 15/07/2021 06:20

DC2’s bubble burst yesterday with seven school days left, so she was sent home at 10am and now won’t return to primary school - such a rubbish way for their time there to end.

I’ve got my second jab this evening and a PTA meeting.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/07/2021 07:56

squirrel Like a proper dog owner Grin

I will go an register my vacc. digitally (they recorded it in my vacc booklet, but I will not take that out of the house - 59 years of vaccination history) and they gave me a paper certificate, too.

HildaTablet · 15/07/2021 09:12

They are indeed Cabbage Whites, Prok. The blighters are partial not just to cabbage but to any kind of brassica. I grow cavolo nero sometimes and have to shroud it in netting to stop them laying their eggs on it; the larva will strip the plants in no time. It's actually amazing to see how quickly the butterflies appear as soon as a host plant materialises.

They're pretty to look at (the butterflies, I mean) but to veg growers they're a bit of a pest.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/07/2021 09:35

Hilda I take that name into my list of new words.

We had them on our Rucola - but they are important pollinators (sp?), too, so we shared the plants - some for them, some for us.

Champagneforeveryone · 15/07/2021 09:35

DS is now in isolation, but only for three days. Any suggestion this time may be filled with room cleaning, sorting out a couple niggles with his car and general uni application admin has been met with derision Wink

HildaTablet · 15/07/2021 09:40

You're more generous than me, Prok . But if I find one that's blundered into my greenhouse and can't get out, I will carefully catch it and release it outside, so maybe I'm not a totally bad person Grin

Silkiecats · 15/07/2021 09:45

We are on day 4 of isolation and DS is still not talking to anyone or doing any work. But at least its PHSE day so he's not missing anything today.

Champagneforeveryone · 15/07/2021 09:51

silkie DS will at least do college work unbidden so that's one thing. It's currently 09.45am and we've already had the electric guitar. From the banging and shuffling I suspect our long-suffering neighbours may be in for an hour or so on the drums Hmm

Silkiecats · 15/07/2021 09:53

One thing you can't complain about with DS is noise, he never makes a sound all day.

Silkiecats · 15/07/2021 09:56

DH brought me a cup of tea this morning, half way through drinking it I realised there was a big lump of gone off milk at the bottom. Yuck. DH never puts milk in the fridge. Its as we have a utility room now as well as a kitchen.

Silkiecats · 15/07/2021 09:59

I was wondering the other day why I had suddenly became lactose intolerant, now I know at least.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/07/2021 12:46

I met the DHL man as he was leaving the house. I thought great, my used books delivery (medimops) has been. It had - but as there were only 3 people hat home waiting for the bell to ring, he delivered the packt to one 'Alex' on some 2nd floor. I have send DD to find Alex.

Squirrel26 · 15/07/2021 16:16

People elsewhere on here seem extremely angry today. About all kinds of things.

I doing something that’s ‘super urgent’. I know this because someone has written that on it in pink highlighter. There are no further clues though as to why it’s ‘super urgent’ so I’m doing it at the same speed as I’m doing all the other things I have to do. (Which is relatively fast; I got it this morning and it’ll be done in about half an hour).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/07/2021 16:38

I came from my ear doctor appointment with restored hearing, went into the underground and waited for the train to start. Then I heard a police car stop, then another slightly later. I thought shit they are coming down. Then the engine driver switched the engine off and opend his door. I thought more shit - my train. Then a number of policepersons started to hunt for somebody. That's when I went back outside. I decided to walk and of course got soaked.

mathanxiety · 15/07/2021 16:52

Does anyone know if cabbage white butterflies would eat all the leaves off a perfectly inoffensive lemon mint plant?

Champagneforeveryone · 15/07/2021 17:15

I've just placed my Waitrose order for when we go on holiday. As there's so little going on at the moment it has taken on insane levels of importance.

I properly dithered whether to purchase two hand soaps or just one. Prior to the pandemic when I used to have a life I doubt I would have given it a second thought Confused

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/07/2021 17:23

math as far as I know the Kohlweißling is bound with its eggs and caterpillars to cabage plants. But there are lots of lovely butterflies whose caterpillars are free to eat what they like.
And there are a number of (tiny) beetles feeding specially on mint leaves.
