I just baked brownies - DH advised me to only bake half the amount as he does not want to eat any Grin

MissConductUS · 11/07/2021 12:58

Popcornbetty, I forgot to answer your question about when the surgery was. I had it last Thursday.

Prok, I don't think you can cut the recipe in half unless you use a smaller pan. Was it the brownie recipe I sent you?

I've had my shower and am contemplating a bit of breakfast.

MissC that's totally correct, we're all a bit bemused.

I went home at 6.30am and saw someone I know so stopped for a brief chat. I made sure it was short as he has 4 children and I figured it was the only peace and quiet he got all day, before his work opened.

He saw my relative just now and said "what was she doing out so early?" and my relative said "why, looking for clients, of course" which apparently he found hysterically funny. Thanks. No really, thanks.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/07/2021 13:11

Miss No, it was DD's recipe and I fitted the pan to the amount - it is DH's 'I won't eat any' that will be the problem - though he is a very discipled eater usually.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/07/2021 13:11

disciplined -

Popcornbetty · 11/07/2021 14:18

@MissConductUS Thank you so much for your reply. I'm pleased your surgery went smoothly and hopefully you'll feel better everyday. It's great your dh has recovered really well and quickly. My relative had a hip replacement in March but isn't doing very well at all to the point she has been feeling disheartened about having it done in the first place. I kept thinking it might need more time but by the sounds of it there has been ample. She has an appt with the consultant so hopefully he will address her concerns then...
Oh thank you, my dc love anything homebaked esp if it has chocolate in. I love I baking so I'm more than happy to do it and sometimes my oldest will help! I make it usually with greek yoghurt or what ever yoghurt i have on hand (strawberry etc works well too) and it is a lovely recipe. The bread you are going to make sounds amazing, i love the walnut and orange additions. My dc are still tiny, 1 and 4 so certainly keep me on my toes. What are your dc studying at uni? You must feel so proud.

Sunbird24 · 11/07/2021 14:24

@Popcornbetty I hope your relative’s consultant works out why they haven’t had the expected improvements. That’s quite a big op to go through and obviously lots of physio/exercises to do afterwards as well!

Popcornbetty · 11/07/2021 14:42

Thank you @Sunbird24 that's kind of you to say. i hope so too. It seems everytime she does exercise it makes it worse at the moment, hopefully the consultant will be able to help her.

Sunbird24 · 11/07/2021 14:54

Is she able to get into a pool to do anything? Might be easier?

Popcornbetty · 11/07/2021 15:01

That's a good idea @Sunbird24 i will mention that as i don't think she has.

deste · 11/07/2021 15:07

At the age of nearly 71 I’ve just tried on my first wet suit and had a wee go on our kayak that we’ve had for 7 years.

Sunbird24 · 11/07/2021 15:10

Go @deste! Did you enjoy it? I prefer stand up paddle boarding personally but it’s nice to be on the water either way when it’s warm out

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/07/2021 15:53

deste good for you!

Silkiecats · 11/07/2021 16:08

I love kayaking, not keen on SUP as you are attached to it and I don't like it when you fall off and go under the board. I would kayak all day every day if I could.

DD wanted an all day English breakfast so we've just had one, its good as that will feed me for the day and shops are closing early as apparently there is a football match on which means about half the male population will be rammed into pubs.

Just had an e-mail from school about another 2 year 9 covid cases so that's 6 in past 2 weeks, so we are awaiting whether we get isolation or not again for DS. I'm supposed to get second vaccine on Thursday. My hayfever has come back but at least the asthma hasn't. Need to get more anti-histamines again.

MissConductUS · 11/07/2021 16:15

Welcome, @deste, and thanks for sharing your aquatic adventure news. Well done for giving it a go!

@Popcornbetty, I'm a Yank and live in US. Here, to be specific:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson_Highlands

Uni here is four years. DS just finished his third year and is an accounting and finance major. He already has a full-time job offer for when he graduates next spring, based on an internship he did this spring. He's here this summer but will go back to Boston in the fall and will likely stay there when he graduates to take this new job.

DD just finished her first year and hasn't declared an academic major yet. That's common in US universities. She is also studying in Massachusetts and has stayed on campus this summer to do a paid internship in the neurobiology lab. I expect she'll do something science related. We drove up to see her last weekend, which was lovely. And yes, DH and I are very proud of them both. Grin They are both really lovely kids. Paying American tuition and fees for both of them at the same time is a bit less thrilling.

My blueberry bread is cooling. I realized after I put it in the oven that I had forgotten to add the egg, which explains why I needed extra orange juice to get the batter to the right texture. I've made this recipe dozens of times, so I was lazy about double-checking the recipe. We will see how it turns out eggless.

Sunbird24 · 11/07/2021 16:17

Maybe that’s the trick @Silkiecats, I’ve never actually fallen off yet, only to my knees on the board!
@MissConductUS looking forward to the report on your egg-free blueberry bread!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/07/2021 16:23

in brownie news - DH has given half of the brownies to DD - working at her exam preparations. And the other half remained in the kitchen for "safekeeping". Smile.

Sunbird24 · 11/07/2021 16:24

You know you can freeze brownies @Prokupatuscrakedatus? Just in case you want to save some for another week!

Silkiecats · 11/07/2021 16:30

I've only done SUP once and it was in the Pacific Ocean in Costa Rica and it was hard to balance with the strong waves and then I had a board and strong waves going over me. I went back to the kayak pretty quickly. Probably not the best place to trial it. Grin My sense of balance isn't that great either.

I tried wakeboarding as well. DD was much better than me. DH refused to try and DS put the equipment on got in and then cried get me out its too cold. That was in UK.

Sunbird24 · 11/07/2021 16:35

Oh dear! It is a bit colder here, but I did my SUP in Coverack (Cornwall) where it’s a big shallow bay with lots of lovely fish to distract you

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/07/2021 16:43

@Sunbird24 yes, I know - but ... we do not have a freezer as such. We have a small compartment in the fridge for teenage pizza / bag of fries.

Popcornbetty · 11/07/2021 16:46

@Sunbird24 nooo freezing brownies is surely a crime Wink they wouldn't survive long enough in my house!

Popcornbetty · 11/07/2021 16:54

Ah yes, I'm in the UK but have family in the states and heard college over there is different. It isn't cheap here either but fortunately there is help available for those that need it. Gosh my uni days feel a million years ago now...Shock
Hope your bread works out. I made some eggless oatmeal cookies the other week and they have ended up being added to my go to recipes. Hoping the orange juice will save the day for you!

Popcornbetty · 11/07/2021 16:55

Sorry forgot to tag you @MissConductUS i blame my littlest one pawing at my phone...

Popcornbetty · 11/07/2021 16:57

Oh and fantastic on your son's job; a weight off i'm sure.
