Are most actresses very very slim in real life?

I saw a well known actress a few days ago, standing behind her in the queue for a coffee. She was dressed down, however was clearly very pretty in person. However I was taken aback by how slim she was. I would say she was slightly taller than average, not a tiny person if you know what I mean. But so so slim. Do you think most famous actresses/singers etc are like this? Maybe I’m very naive.

Yes.

I think being on film makes you look bigger.. I'm sure I've read that.

Yes they are teeny.

I've seen a few actresses irl randomly and the slim on screen ones are tiny and also seem to be v short as well (I'm little myself).

ssd · 04/06/2021 22:42

Probably pressured to be like this.

emptyplinth · 04/06/2021 22:44

Yes, they're usually quite short and always very thin

freesolo · 04/06/2021 22:46

I saw Diane Kruger once, when she was going out with Joshua Jackson (saw them in a cafe in Paris) She was incredibly slim, I remember feeling quite shocked

LittleWren32 · 04/06/2021 22:48

I think most of them have a very small frame and are absolutely tiny.

ureterr1blemuriel · 04/06/2021 22:48

Yes, think size 6-8 max. If I were in the public eye that’d be enough incentive to not eat the piece of chocolate fudge cake I just ate 😆 Luckily no one at my work cares!!

PracticallyFloored · 04/06/2021 22:50

Yes, I think they are. My friend saw Drew Barrymore in a hotel, she said she was unbelievably thin, like a doll. And Drew Barrymore is one of the ones that you vaguely think is a more healthy weight, girl nextdoor type.

I was sitting beside a fairly well-known glamour model in a cafe and had to stop myself from continuously staring at her. She was just so tiny and fragile-looking, she really looked alien. Even if I hadn't recognised her, I think I would have known she was some kind of celeb. They look like a different species if you see them IRL.

Meandyouandyouandme · 04/06/2021 22:50

Not an actress but I saw Graham Norton close up once and was surprised by how slim he was, not that he looks big on TV, but was quite slim in real life.

Mitford1789 · 04/06/2021 22:53

@PracticallyFloored that’s interesting about drew Barrymore - yes I would have thought her a more ‘normal’ weight.

It's part of the job isn't it. Same for men - they can be expected to bulk up or diet down for a role.

Bumzoo · 04/06/2021 22:55

Yes. I've seen a few and they were all remarkably thin.

Thinnest ever was Kate Middleton. She's the thinnest person I've ever seen.

OhGodNotThisAgain · 04/06/2021 22:56

Who was it, op?

dorangme · 04/06/2021 22:57

Yes I used to work in the fashion industry. Most actresses are far tinier in RL then you expect, the camera (particularly photos) adds pounds.

dorangme · 04/06/2021 22:59

Thinnest ever was Kate Middleton. She's the thinnest person I've ever seen.

Yep & yet lots of posters on here will say they are the same size, we've lost sight of what's normal etc.

Most Hollywood actresses have proportions similar to a 10 yr old child.

NeverEnoughCake2 · 04/06/2021 22:59

I once met Olivia Colman in a pub. She didn't seem unusually thin compared to any of the other women there. She was, however, remarkably friendly considering we were pestering her while she was trying to enjoy a bottle of wine with her friends!

MrMeeseekslookatme · 04/06/2021 23:00

My sister once met the 'curvy one' from Girls Aloud. Was it Kimberly? She was clesrly bigger than Cheryl and the Irish one. Anyway, my sister is a tiny size 8 and this one from Girls Aloud was thinner than her.

MonthofMondays · 04/06/2021 23:00

I saw Mel (from Mel and Sue) once, I was so surprised how short and thin she was, she looks normal sized on TV. Don't think I would have recognised her, but her voice is distinctive.

CheerfulBunny · 04/06/2021 23:02

That's fascinating about Drew Barrymore, she looks relatively normal. I suppose it's true about the camera adding 10lbs then.
Not in the same league at all, but I saw Amanda Holden hailing a cab in London and she looked really weird - tiny little body and really big head like a lollipop. Ant and Dec were the same when I saw them IRL. TV cameras must distort your proportions. Confused

SweatyBetty20 · 04/06/2021 23:04

I once saw Fiona Bruce at the coffee shop at the media centre - BBC building next to Telly Centre. She was shorter than I imagined and incredibly slim.

OrangeSharked · 04/06/2021 23:07

Yes. I used be friends with a model, she looks slim but healthy in photographs but in real life she's really really tiny. Like terrifyingly tiny, sort of body size of a 10 year old child but on an adult frame

OrangeSharked · 04/06/2021 23:07

I totally agree with the lollipop comparison! I always think like an olive on a stick

Pinkycheeks · 04/06/2021 23:09

I’ve seen the Strictly dancers in real life... they are tiny ..

SydneyCarton · 04/06/2021 23:09

Years ago I was in the audience for Celebrity Fame Academy Blush and Cat Deeley, who was presenting, was absolutely tiny. Dawn Steele from Monarch of the Glen was one of the contestants, and I’d assumed from seeing her on screen that she would be about a 12-14, but she was no more than a size 10 at most

TheFlis12345 · 04/06/2021 23:13

I meet quite a few celebs in my job and they are always much smaller than you would think, in height and weight. I am 5”8 and size 10” and the women always look like children next to me.

CommunistLegoBloc · 04/06/2021 23:16

The one that really sticks out for me was Denise Van Outen. She had legs like a horse. It was quite shocking. Again, you'd say she was slim on TV but not worrying or extreme. In the flesh (or lack thereof...) she was just a skeleton with skin on top.
